Ankara is the most well- planned and the most developed city in Turkiye and I think because of that, Turkish people are a little bit jealous about the city. Also, Ankara is the city with highest education level in Turkiye. People are not rude but they are cold, city is cold also. It is not touristic place but I think it deserves to visit. One day would be enough to see urban but without urban area, it is hidden gem. You can find tons of place to see.

Just saw bir başkadır after living in Türkiye 2 years. I agree with you, this show is absolutely spot on! It was pretty painful for me to watch as a foreigner who chose to live here. The uneducated kapalı are a product of political backlash against secularism. They had no choice. Take off your headscarf or don't go to school. Take off your headscarf or you can't work for any government position. Many of them didn't take off the headscarf. So only the younger covered women became professionals after the ban was lifted post Erdoğan. Which is one reason why he's so loved here. For me it's extremely painful to watch the husband. He's supposed to be a good man, if you ask a middle of the road Turkish man, they would say he's a paragon of manhood. He's only protecting his wife. But the scenes where he's belittling her, the obvious gaslighting and no one in his community saw anything wrong made me want to throw up. Even his sister minimized it and blamed the victim. Kudos for making this film. Best seriesm. You should also see MASUM, same writer and director.

I loved this book. It was retelling a very old story and a rather enigmatic story at that. What I loved was mirroring the story into the present day with Ella and Aziz. I regarded it as faction if that is a thing taking a historic event and making fact fun by imagining ourselves into the story. We are all all the characters in the book. It’s lovely looking into lives/stories from the elevated position of the reader. We can be so objective in our reading and wish away their youthful foolishness for our aged wisdom, but we can’t do it with our own lives/stories.

Thank you for being so clear about the staring. I struggle with this ALL THE TIME. I've been followed many many times, even in their cars. One followed me all the way from the bus stop to my house, in HIS CAR! I've resorted to take pictures of their license plates but even then they still keep following you and/or staring at you. I've called the cops a couple of.times, but when they arrive the person or the car is gone and they tell me they can't do anything unless he physically tries to harm me. So...when he tries to hurt me I should call? It's ludicrous!
