i’ve played a basketball game on this court believe it or not.

Incredible upload. Thank you. I 50+ year fan of the game of basketball. I learned alot about the 50’s and 60’s players cia stories from my father. I can recall, once telling my dad that Shaq would destroy Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, Nate Thurmond, Wes Unseld, and Kareem and Bellamy and whoever I else I didn’t see play in their prime (I did see a young 30’s Kareem, and Unseld from 28- end of his career) Pops just laughed, and said you still underestimate how good those guys were…lol he was right, I didn’t have context…this was before the internet… and finding highlights of 60’s players was rare. He would then explain to me… and I would understand… but I still had to see it.? lol Just for clarity. Honestly I did know, because I knew my father, uncles, grandfather were big tough super strong men… My father was 6’3 240 and solid. Athletic well into his 50’s My grandfather was 6’6 235 wiry but athletic well into his 60’s. My father always told me stories of Wilt… who ironically enough was born one before Wilt Chamberlain… 90 miles south. His stories of Wilt were from Wilt Chamberlain High School days.. people “heard” and read of This 7 foot athlete up and down the East Coast. Then he saw him play with the Globetrotters, and he always spoke of his speed and ball handling, and that he would have destroyed the league if he would’ve come back… I believed him. Yet I didn’t get to understand it in full context until Wilt Chamberlain’s archive. Thanks again for giving full context of the games pioneers. I am just ashamed the NBA doesn’t properly chronicle its history, and glosses over the past. Shameful, one of the reasons, the NBA doesn’t thrill me nowadays. I love the game of basketball, and I enjoy the WNBA

The fact that he is compared to today's NBA great skill. Wilt pioneered and he is indeed ahead for his time even though there are plenty of great players than him in the modern league

🤔 So being 7'0 foot tall doesn't mean you score 50 points a game. Wilt was really the 🐐

We had a black and white tv in the 80's. Everything on there was in black and white, in the 80's. Tv broadcast would go off at midnight. Wasnt no watching tv at 1 a.m. in the 80's. The 1st nba game i saw was in 84 i think, it was the playoffs Celtics/Lakers. Cable was like 13 channels. In 1998 you had to look at tv to see something, it wasn't no youtube. If you lived in florida but liked the redskins all you had was highlights on sportscenter until the playoffs. If stuff was so different 24 years ago from now and 20 years before that, 20+ yeats before that it wasn't even tvs in people house like that and if it was it you had channels you picked up woth the rabbit ears antennas. Mf walk past the tv the channel go out. Thats why its a radio broadcast and not tv. Yall got to be trolling, or ignorant thinking technology been around forever just because it bern around since you been.

Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell would easily make the league today and not only make it, but dominate too. I'll die on this hill

Wilt benched 500 lbs this guy is probably 130-150 at most of course he picks him up easily.

He just pushes off Russell so easily. And the power on his dunks..no one should deal with a man like that on a basketball court. No one.
@BrianH-w8t6 күн бұрын
Somebody just uploaded this entire game of him playing against the Lakers, and this guy knocked down a fadeaway jumper with two defenders draped all over him. Man this guy could easily compete in any era of basketball, especially today's era. This guy is a pitifully underrated nba player.

How are you supposed to operate in the post? Seems impossible They really forced Wilt to score in the hardest ways imaginable and thin out his ability to use his strength and he STILL scored.

Ok I really want to know, why do some people say Wilt was a better defender than Bill? I always thought Bill was more agile and can time blocks better than anybody. Wilt wasn’t really consistent on defense and didnt time blocks as well/smartly.

Imagine what Wilt would do to Ja Morant, AI, Antman even MJ. 60s was peak basketball. Oh they had rules too back then.

Players back then were plumbers and firemen because of how bad the wages were not because of a lack of talent they were all professional athletes nba is the only sport that does this disrespect to the pioneers mlb nfl nhl no fan dares to diss the pioneers

Haven't really talked about Gus Johnson. Bob Petitt, Kareem, Dr. J, Rick, Walt Frazier, George Gervin, John Havlicek and Nate Thurmond were pretty good too.

It's very common for an NBA player to be able to do this, especially centers. Guys palm the ball and move it around freely all the time. I've seen this one handed fake pass quite a few times as well.

Bob Cousy is still a top 5 Point Guard in NBA history. A floor general in the truest sense. When you watch him, it seems like he came from the future. Also helped carry the NBA from a marketing standpoint. A great ambassador for basketball.

This is some interesting footage because this was one of 9 games in 1969-70 where Wilt averaged 32 ppg, I’d wish there was more footage of those 9 games before he got injured.

The modern day players get away with so much. Great stationary defense gets negated by guys plowing thru them. And of course taking too many steos also.

Not only was The Big Dipper the G.OA.T. when it comes to basketball on any level, at any time, anywhere in the world, I'm also convinced that he's the greatest athlete who ever lived in any and all sports combined. He was on his own level that could not be matched or compared to by anyone. It is sad that only 1% of his game play footage is available to view. To hear the G.O.A.T. debate today only be discussed between MJ and Lebron is truly disrespectful, ignorant, and maybe not purposely, but don't make a case for anyone other than Wilt if you don't know the history of the game. That's just making a decision while being misinformed. When God made Chamberlain, He sprinkled some extra heavenly dust on Wilt than He had anyone else.
