Thank you for this video. I have two kids and we are planning a three day road trip, starting in Zion for 3-4 hours then driving to Bryce and doing the 3 hour scenic drive. Then the next day we hope to do Monument Valley scenic drive, quick stop at the Four Corners Monument, and see Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings. Then on the last day see Arches and Canylonlands by Moab.

My wife and I are planning a trip out there this year. I like the look of this trail. It will be just the two of us in one Jeep. Would we be foolish to run this one on our own with no fellow Jeepers to help with recovery? Your video made this one look rather mild. Thoughts? Thanks for sharing.
@skiutah482 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I’d say it’s pretty mild, just take weather into consideration. If the water is flowing high it will make it more difficult, but that’s probably the only thing that could make this trail more difficult. You’re right it’s a pretty mild trail. Safe travel!

Hi Joseph, I haven’t been to this exact spot for a few weeks. But I live in the area and know the river is low, but you can still play in the water! Be careful where you jump and don’t swim in the Virgin if there are any flash flood warnings or rain up near Zion. Have fun!!

This route reminds me of Kinesava East Face in Zion National Park, except for the sand (on Kinesava it's dirt) and the rock scrambling is much more challenging on Kinesava. All in all a better day out on Kinesava by comparison. Now on to a much more serious issue. The Canaan Mountains can be a very dangerous place for the unprepared. The route finding can be very challenging, and the massive - and numerous - cliff faces can land one in trouble with a misstep or two. In the process of trying to figure out where this hike is located, I found a route in Water Canyon that greatly resembles the actual route description in this video. Problem is that the top of this other "Sand Hill" leads to some very hard class 5 stuff. The actual route to El Cap is just northwest of Maxwell Park at UTM 12 S 323483 m E 4099804 N according to Google Earth and my GPS. Again, knowing where one is going and what one is getting into in the Canaan Mountains can be the difference between a great day out or a trip to the emergency room courtesy of Search & Rescue ... or worse. By the way, the link to mapmyhike doesn't work on my machine.
