Kamil Střihavka is by far my favorite Jesus. A big reason is the fact that it's the first version I heard and fell in love with, but also since he's primarily a rock singer, his voice has a certain raspiness to it that just adds so much to the performance. Also fun fact, Václav Noid Bárta, who's also on this list, played Judas counterpart to Střihavka's Jesus.

“But why though”. Many 80s music, art, shows, etc. did NOT need to have a “why?” or a cultural-political statement. If it was “cool” and created an emotional response, that was enough. Just listen to 80s pop music lyrics. It’s a word salad, or more charitably, more like poetry. But it didn’t have to make sense, or have a message, if it created an emotional response.

The dumbest Move move, Disney has made ever. This is worse than having racist Mickey Mouse throwing Minnie mouse off a plane because he couldn't get down her pants. Just think of how many Disney movies we could have had with Robin Williams as the lead comedy relief. 15 or 20 Disney movies could have had Robin Williams voice in it. Robin Williams alone could have made Disney over a 100 million dollars annually for 15 years straight. Had they only kept their end of the deal and made Robin Williams Happy because then he would've went and made all of their customers happy and sold? Billions of videos.

Hey Lindsay! I'm just intellectually curious, how did you work with the licensed music in this video? Did you have to seek out screening rights and get approval? Or was the video not monetizable? I'm just fascinated by copyright law and how it works with KZbin, eager to know how exactly you brought this great video to us. Thanks!!

I don't know why I always attribute the quote "Fame is abuse" as having been said by a great KZbinr I hope you get to know better and maybe even make a collab with called ContraPoints (*wink* *wink*), but nearly every case of "celebrity drama" boils down to that (read "celebrity drama" as: "paparazzi/media/people makes celebrities lives a living hell") . I don't know why, but only now I'm realizing how often it applies mostly to famous women or women related to famous people. The reason why I didn't realize is probably some internalized/normalized misogyny I still hadn't noticed and got rid of, but this piece and all of its examples definitely helped me there. Great piece as always.

I’m 26 and in the last 5 years, I have fallen in love with the 1998 production (from the year I was born) without having so much as SEEN it other than these videos. What I love is seeing how much passion everyone seemed to have in creating this fever dream. It’s beautiful and weird and sometimes art can just be art for joy and mystique and magic and that is the why

I've always viewed the Hobbit trilogy as a sort of guilty pleasure of mine, knowing how hated they are by the general public, but after watching this documentary, I think I'll never be able to view the films again without a bitter taste in my mouth. For the longest time, I simply thought that the mess that the trilogy became was due to the studios' interference, and felt bad for Peter Jackson. But now, I just feel a sort of nothing and vague disgust, knowing just how bad everyone else was screwed over no thanks to Jackson himself. Certainly eye-opening, that whole segment about the labor laws being changed and creating poverty, as John Callen put it. As many others said, I'm really glad that you interviewed John Callen-it's really good to hear the story from one of the actors themselves, especially one that was wronged by the studios. Great work with this.

Ok, stop me if i am being an asshole here, I appreciate the plug for nebula and the "unrated" version of the video in the description. And as a fan of your work and voice i clicked on the link... to hit a paywall... and OK, i get it, nebula is paid, and a lot of content for not a lot of money.. but... If u want someone to go "yeah ill drop that money for a yearly sub to a service i have no experience with"... give them the alternate cut, non nebula original for free and if they say "hell yeah, I love seeing Lindsay Ellis vids without editing for adsense BS!" them im gonna pay for it cuz now, they know they want it. This way tho, u are guaranteeing the only people who buy that sub are the same people who would pay for a Patreon or other such platform and it is just really disappointingly bad marketing. Notmyplace, notyourjob, i know.. but there it is anyways.
@LindsayEllisVids2 сағат бұрын
KZbin wouldn't allow the unrated version. The only reason Lindsay edited/censored it was because KZbin forced her to. If you want to see the unedited version, Nebula is the only place where it is possible. --Lindsay's Assistant

This video made me cry. I will, until the day I die, stand by my opinion that Yoko Ono's music and artistic works are better in every imaginable way than the sum of the Beatle's and their solo work put together. I hope she gets the larger narrative reevaluation she deserves with more things like this video, and then soon after, her music gets the same treatment.

It's common for fans to pick on their idol's partner to blame. It swings either way, and it works because many people want to think their idol, man or woman, is perfect and untouchable and if anything goes wrong _it must be_ someone else's fault. Also, John Lennon had a point with the "women are the n of the world". I'm sorry, but that was kinda true and in many places around the world it still is.
