Thinking about picking up a Ducar 212. Would it be necessary to get a billet rod or would it be fine with just a limited coil?
@fatbuddycat15 күн бұрын
I'm running mine with a limited coil and torque converter so it won't get too high up in rpm. The Ducar can be setup for 5300 rpm out of the box with a regular governor, similar to the Tillotson 212R. The Ghost, Ducar and 212r all utilize stock cast rods.

I am restoring an engine. (It’s just a clone 196cc) and noticed that it has aluminum push rods. I think I would rather have steel pushrods in it though. I have a spare clone 163cc that has steel pushrods. The aluminum rods are 0.0035 shorter than the steel rods. Would it be ok for me to swap them? Is that a big enough difference to warrant not swapping or will this difference not be a problem? Thanks for any help.
@fatbuddycat19 күн бұрын
As long as the geometry looks good you'll be ok. If the 163 is based on a gx160 then it will have the same 5.260 Pushrods as a 196. A 160 has a shorter cylinder with the same 68mm bore as a 196, same valves as a 196....they use shorter lifters to make up for it.

@fatbuddycat19 күн бұрын
I'd say it's slightly longer than a mm212 without suspension. With the swingarm kit the mm212 would be longer I think. It's smaller than the MB200-2 in length and height but it's wider and has a stronger frame. The RSV is a really neat bike in person.
@craigward652718 күн бұрын
I agree about the frame and looks just like the MM. Seen the MM up against the colman that is like the RSV without rear suspension and it looked lower than the MM, but the frame looks exactly like the MM. When you pulled the crank out it looked to me like it is solid at the back, so that's good news. 👍 I think I'm just gonna size up the hole and re Tapp it a bit bigger and not worry about the chunk of Tapp stuck in the crankshaft tube. Hopefully it will go smooth .
@thelastofthelemmings6279Ай бұрын
Hey man thanks for the vid, 😎 I was wondering if the crankshaft leads directly into the motor (from the center) I know I'm not wording this right so what happened was the crankshaft bolt, the one that holds the torque converter driver pulley on sheared off when the kids were riding, so I drilled it, attempted to tap it, snapped the tap in the drilled hole then had a bit of a metal breakdown and just took a punch to the broken Tapp and drove it through the hole. Now, I can Tapp the hole a bit bigger no problem, but is the broken piece of Tapp gonna give me grief? Does the center of the hollow crankshaft lead directly into the motor or is it capped on the backside? I can't really see it leading directly to the interior of the motor but I don't really know. If ya find the time to read all this. Please let me know what ya think Thanks 😊
@fatbuddycatАй бұрын
The hole does not go all the way through. They are fairly deep so you likely just tapped to the back of the theeads.

Hey guys just finally got my rsv delivered , hey fat buddy cat your opinion should I put a zip tie on governor spring or am I at risk of damage ? Thanks you have always responded with good info , thanks Joe G
@fatbuddycatАй бұрын
Depends if you plan on upgrading at some point. I'm running a Ducar 212 with the governor removed but I installed a 5250rpm limited coil. The torque converter will help keep rpm down while under a load but when you start getting around 4500 you are risking the flywheel most.
@joegenova1198Ай бұрын
So you think by zipping the spring it could potentially exceed a safe rpm ? If that is so not worth it .plan on upgrading motor later on but I want to keep it reliable for now . Thanks for your input
@fatbuddycatАй бұрын
@joegenova1198 the stock engine is just as good as any. I only changed mine because I wanted to test out a limited coil to see if I like it better than a regular governor. I bet I could build the stock engine better using one as well.

I'm actually building a Wildcat too and the only thing that stressing me out is the clearance. I had a +0.02 billet rod and +0.02 piston and I can't see any gap between the rod and the piston entrance when the piston is down. I can't hear any rubbing when rotating it by hand but it feels like vibrations or just bumps could make it touch. Have you ever clearance that part ? How sketch is it ? should I add clearance in the interior of the piston entrance (so on the block) or can you do it on the rod itself ?
@fatbuddycatАй бұрын
I did a video on the Predator 224 bottom end where I clearance for the billet rod. Are you talking about the bottom of the cylinder above the lifters? It's OK to carve back that part. It's below the rings when the piston comes down so it doesn't effect anything. Be sure to make your clearances nice and smooth.
@Yeremie18Ай бұрын
@@fatbuddycatYep exactly the inner side of the cylinder (where the rod is not the outside where the lifters are). I saw some people clearance the exterior side because their cam was rubbing but never saw someone do the interior so I was kinda scared of doind anything haha but yeah I guess as long it's below the rings it won't affect the compression and I should be ok. Thanks for the answer, I'll make sure to watch your video of the predator !

What does the oil in these forks even do? There isnt a shock for the oil to flow through. And do you know if the hurricaine comes with the improved gps shock or the old one like in this video?
@fatbuddycatАй бұрын
Take the shocks apart and look at how they work. It's not a hydraulic piston, suspension works with a dampening and preload. The springs control how stiff the suspension is and the oil deals with the movement (compression and rebound). Hurricane just has a front brake on the tube, same suspension as the regular Trailmaster. GPS also didn't create the Hurricane, they just like to act exclusive.
@fatbuddycatАй бұрын
Worst part about Trailmaster is the frame and suspension geometry. They had issues with the gen1 (looked like a Warrior with rear suspension) frame cracking and tried to fix it with the engine mount rather than redesign the whole bike. The long shaft engine to line up the torque converter is pretty dumb too....as are the crazy cheap plastics, foot pegs and seat. Buncha crap.

@@fatbuddycat yeah I know they just get the Chinaman to make everything then sell it to us but people say good things about it and I want a full suspension mini bike.
