Personally I find that by sliding the finger down as you suggest as in a more “hammer grip” works better for overall power and control and allows the wrist to flex more fully. So you’re right. Glide the index finger down. In fact, although in the video I have my index finger quite high, in reality, it’s closer to the other fingers in a more “hammer” style grip.

At the point of contact for a forehand smash, do your fingers take a more hammer style grip as they squeeze down onto the handle? I find trying to swing full power with my index finger quite high up as in the video, causes the racket to move around in my hand as its accelerates.

Likely one of the best, if not the best, *meticulously break down, key (!), stroke EACH stage motion(s) if backhand. After watching this video and drill 100-dozen times, you are all set for back hand likely solid beginning intermediate level, except need to buy, I intend to, bird shooting machine, like table tennis robot, and need place like gymnasium, not easy to find and practice. I need to figure it out. Taking class is not much help as you have to play NOT systematic drills we need! Thanks U so very much indeed! USA

That is so awesome as you can see in a systematic way all variations at once. The video is so good. Thanks! I wonder if something similar exists for doubles footwork ? It looks to me like doubles have some specific standardized footwork in some areas. For example there is specific footwork for backcourt player to quickly move from angle to angle, or just small specific jumps when moving from position to position.

Omg this is such a great video, especially for the forehand grip my index finger was too low and I didn't think of using it as a lever like the thumb for the backhand. Now I should get more power and control with the forehand thanks.

I enjoy and learn a lot from your analysis series, especially how you cover players like Kento and explain down his strategies for the general public. I would suggest doing more of these on well-known players like Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Viktor Axelsen, Chen Long, and others.
