Installing a Brembo master cylinder on that old bike is a waste of money. The original brakes are not bad ☝🏿🧐

@dacat8171 Hi. Thanks for your comment. I personally cannot disagree with you more. In all honesty if I hadn't of fallen in love with these bikes as I had a J series before, I can say I wouldn't of bothered but because I knew I was keeping it I wanted to modernise the bike and improve it. If you compare the new bikes to these older bikes the brakes, suspension and performance have improved over the years. In my opinion the brakes and rear shock are that bad for my use but rightly it's a matter of opinion and personal use. I say to anyone who buys a 98-02 zx6r to ride their bike and see what they think and would want to improve. Most say they want to improve their brakes, suspension and gearing. If you rode a standard 98-02 bike next to the same bike fitted with a Brembo RCS19, braided lines and sbs pads your see the difference is actually night and day. Now whether it's a waste of money is really down to if you require more brake and if your happy with your standard set up and if your happy then yes there is no point, however not everyone believes the same, including myself. Thanks again for watching and the comment. Thanks Tim.

@@kawasakizx6r813 You may also consider that 600s are to be ridden smooth, therefore there is no hard braking like on the superbikes. Naaah, your explanation does not convince me at all. Furthermore the Brembo RCS19 is not made for maintenance. If it leaks, it is gone, although there are companies who deal with overhaul kits.

@dacat8171 Hi. My explanation isnt meant to convince you. Its simply says that if your happy with your brakes thats great however me personally was not. I know alot of people who ride the 98-02 zx6r's that feel the same, that includes track and road use. Personally I wouldn't consider that a 600cc are to be ridden smoother to a 1000cc. Personally I ride my 600cc harder than I did my 1000cc and I'd say alot of people thrash the tit's off their 600cc where a 1000cc to do the same can be ridden smoother, at the end of the day your still going the same speed and need to stop. I know if I need to perform an emergency stop I can stop quicker now than with my standard brakes. It's all down to your own riding style and use. If your happy with your brakes then you don't need to improve them. Thanks again for the comments Tim.

@AndyBop Hi. Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure if you have watched my review of my 00-02 J series in yellow, if not please watch it. When you see that your understand more my love for these bikes. They are extremely easy to work on and a real world sports bike. Now I do believe that there are improvement that can be made as technology has moved on but you don't need to do them all at once. Also you personally may not need to do them at all as it's all down to what you personally want to improve. The only differences from a G model compared to the J series is: New fairing styling with twin headlights, new swing arm to make in slightly longer, slightly modded engine, revised suspension. So there really isn't that much difference. I had an R1 back in 2003-2005 new and I can honestly say I much prefer these bikes. No they aren't as quick but real world bikes they are absolutely brilliant and quick enough. I can't speak highly enough about them and this is why I hunted around for the newest, lowest mileage G,J or A1P. I ended up with this A1P with 1900 miles on it and paid over the odds as wasn't bothered as treating it like a brand new bike. Again that's why I'm not bothered with all the money I've spent on it as the bike is simply perfect for me. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and the question. Tim. I'm on Facebook on the: 98-02 Kawasaki zx6r only, Group.

Hi. When you undo the suspension there is nothing to support the rear end so it will drop to the floor. This is the reason you cannot use a paddock stand to do this. 2 and half inches shorter is alot. I'm not sure how much this will affect your geometry and ride height. I honestly don't know other models of bikes to upgrade or switch suspension. I don't know if the swap you are doing on your bike is a common upgrade and would advise checking forums. Hi. So the exhaust is a full Arrow hi level titanium race system with a large carbon oval end can. I purchased from ebay from a guy who gets new old stock Arrow exhausts. Cost £725 including import duty. It's an absolute brilliant system and honestly with I'd removed it when I sold the bike as they are extremely hard to get hold of. The brilliant thing about them is they are quite upto about 7000rpm so crusing on the motorway and stuff isn't deafening. Also for track at 7000rpm it's 98db stationary so clears all the trackdays. Also being a full system it has no baffle and able to produce as much power as possible with no restrictions. I believe the guy does currently have a 3 bolt slip on. If your interested I can try send a link. I've had two full systems off him, totally genuine guy. Thanks for watching Tim.

@kawasakizx6r813 2 ай бұрын
Hi. This is an extremely hard question to answer, as your see many bikes advertised for strong money, however look again in 6 months time and the bikes are still for sale. It is a question of how much you wanna sell the bike and how quickly. I am referring to the UK market as in the US they sell for alot more. So if I had a mint 9K green A1P and wanted to sell it I personally wouldn't want to let it go for less than £3000. Unfortunately not all see the value in these bikes. You could advertise it for £3295 and go from there. I think alot will offer £2500. To put it into perspective, I paid £4195 (2020) for this completely standard A1P with 1900 miles on the clock from a collector. I thought long and hard over two weeks to think if that is to much money. The thing is I've not seen another one since with that low mileage and mint condition. I can honestly say I don't regret it at all. I personally looked at it as a brand new bike that I knew fitted me. I had the full Maxton suspension to swap over from the J2 and made quite alot of personal upgrades which modernise's the bike in all the right area, Suspension, handling, braking and performance. The best A1P currently on sale in the UK, imo, is a complete standard, as new, mint, grey, with 4000 miles on the clock from a dealer and priced at £4995 on Autotrader. Personally if I had the money I'd rip their arm off for it as I love these bikes and they are getting harder to find. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. Tim.

I have read some conflicting stuff on what happens to unburnt fuel when the secondary air system is removed, there is a theory going about that if you still have a cat in the exhaust it can run too hot. I'm running stock exhaust and carbs but removed mine as the rubber joints had got sloppy and the vacuum valve kept sticking, I've got an early J with no cat to worry about thankfully and also kept the crankcase breather attached to the airbox. It really does tidy up the area in front of the carbs too.

The ABBA stand was the best thing i bought for my bike, its just so simple and a God send when need to jack bike up, i think i paid £140 around seven years ago, The lower bearings were seized on my pivot arm, [Z1000 most parts fit a number of bikes] and Kawasaki wanted far too much for new bearings, so bought aftermarket ones from Simply Bearings in UK, about 50% cheaper and cost me a tenner to have fitted at local bike shop

Hi. Was it on ebay? Standard one with about 8k miles.. So off the top of my head the chassis plate with all the info is at the front of the frame. I'm sure it's on the right side, so turn your handle bars left and you should see it.

The ZX is on the top side of the clutch case/engine, that's the engine number. The chassis number is at the front of the bike on the frame. If you look where your key goes in and follow that down on the right hand side of the frame. The frame/chassis number is stamped in the right hand side of the steering head. Believe it will start with a JK

Hi Shaun. It was TechniQ Thunder grey spray paint. I'd advise using a primer and a lacquer, even though it said it dosent need it. I'm on 98-02 Kawasaki zx6r only forum buddy. Let me know when you send a request as I'm admin on there now. Cheers Tim.

Great video thanks mate! I'm thinking about doing the same to mine but I have a question about set up. How did you set up the new suspension to start with? Was it fairly good using standard settings from the 2013-2021 bike?
@kawasakizx6r813

Hi mate . Thanks for the comment and question. OK so I set my suspension spring compression to static sag front and back, then adjust the dampening to suit. Front static sag: Track 25mm Road 30mm Rear static sag: Track 8-10mm Road 12-15mm You have to remember that the suspension is generic. They are bot weighted to you and this is why static sag and not rider sag should be used. I need to do a video on this to explain in detail why but that how I was show by Richard at Maxton to set my suspension. Hope that helps Tim.

Suspension linkage rod to swingarm G,J,A models 34nm. Rear shock absorber mounting, top & bottom, G,J,A models 34nm. Hope that helps. Thanks again Tim.

Hi. Yes the part numbers for the lower link arm, which is where the shock bolts to is the exact same part number. I was also told yes by quite a few people on the 98-02 forum that they have upgraded their own G1-G2 by the parts I lost in the description. Hope that helps. Tim.

I’m curious can you just swap over the 2020 linkage as well? My linkage needs replaced anyway and they’re the same price on eBay.

Hi. Thanks for watching and the question. Honestly I'm unsure, however I sure I spoke to someone a year ago on the forum who purchased a 2013 shock and linkage and used that. I'll see if I can check part numbers and get back to you. Thanks again Tim.

Shock suspension adjustment video?

@kawasakizx6r813 6 ай бұрын
Hi. Currently I'm out of action due to health. I learnt alot from Dave Moss videos about set up and also when I purchased the Maxton suspension back in 2019, Richard who basically is the suspension god at Maxton spent alot of time speaking to me. My recommendation is to set your static sag first and then adjust your dampening to suit. I'll get some road and track static sag figures on here for you as have them written down somewhere. Thanks for watching. Tim.

I have a yellow J2 that i have owned since new. It has over 100k miles on it including 50+ track days. Other than batteries, spockets, and a couple fuel pumps, I've never had to do anything mechanically to it. It has been crashed and rebuilt several times, but is still in very good condition. It has some harmonics at mid-RPM, so I suspect the timing chain is getting pretty loose. I am 50 now, but it will become a coat rack before i sell it! I also have a 2003 ZX-9R that is track only and it has been down a few times as well. I'm in a bind with it because you can no longer buy race plastics for it, and rules require a belly pan (tub), so street fairings are no good. I love these bikes for their comfort and they are very capable in the right hands. I put soft luggage on it and have made several cross country trips over the years. I always wanted one of the silver versions after seeing a Canadian model. They are 636 as well. Great videos and cheers from the US!

Hi buddy. Thank you for taking the time, for such a lovely message. I miss the yellow one but have been out with Dan on several rides with it. I wish back in 2003 when I purchased my R1 I had purchased one of these. To be honest it was my first 1000cc and always wanted an R1 but hated it. For me in the real world it dosent work at all imo. These bikes are absolutely fantastic. The A1P 636 silver one I now only have and just so much enjoy. I went out on the 2019 zx6r and although good, imo isn't a real world road bike. On track it maybe lighter and quicker but there is something about old school carbs and the smooth delivery, plus the scream of the airbox. I've done a 320 large brembo disc, with axle to radial caliper conversion for looks as I was happy with the stopping power but as you say I'll die before I'll sell it lol. I've unfortunately not been great, health wise with my back and neck plus im trying to come off of prescription opiods, thus not done a video for a year now, however I'm currently editing some videos plus have a list for this year so hopefully have new stuff on the channel. Once again thank you for a great message. Its mad for me to think that when I first put out a video on this channel, really to help me help others, that it's seen all around the world. It's 1:30am in the morning here and you lifted my spirits. I thank you Madviking.

Hi. Thanks for the kind remarks. This one I had to let go last February so been concentrating on the A1P. Purley down to usage and insurance on two bikes being pointless. Unfortunately not done a video for a while but hopefully getting back into it soon. These are just such an underrated real world bike. I've ridden alot of bikes and this just works for me. Again adjusting the bike to suit which lots of people just leave. Much prefer 600cc to 1000cc, suit my riding style and don't scare me lol. If your not on Facebook page 98-02 Kawasaki zx6r only page there is a ton of help and also I've uploaded the 2003 performance bike magazine article there to read which again will give a ton of ideas. Thanks for watching. Tim.
