Your philosophy degree is worthless. But the philosophy you studied and learned to get it is priceless. Philosophy teaches you how to look at and interpret life from different perspectives. As you grow older you will encounter different stages of life, and the ability to navigate the unknown future depends on the ability to imagine possibilities. A good life is one lived philosophically.

I genuinely got sick reading the comments here. They reiterate what I already knew after I (a woman who has been lonely her entire life, hoping to find some some comfort) read a ton of posts of men whining about their loneliness on reddit and the like. THE top "issue" they always complain about is not having a girlfriend aka access to sex. It's all in the comments here too. Women can't possibly excperience real profound loneliness like men do bc we apparently all have the option for sex 24/7 blablabla (insane take btw). My god. It's like they try to prove all the clichés there are about men, that there is only one thing they care about. Well, apparently it's true! I have spent years trying to coddle men and talk to lonely men in the hopes of helping them and myself through our "shared" loneliness by becoming friends and giving comfort only to find out time and time again, that what they really want is simply a woman who will let them have sex with her, give them the feeling that they "made it" and cater to their every need. I know women who never had a close friend, felt like they were aliens all their lives, isolated from everyone around them, women who have let themselves get raped by men in the hopes of getting love and acceptance from them, who tried their hardest to make friends and be there for others while still never feeling like they belong anywhere. Sorry but if your top one issue from your oh so profound male loneliness is that you cant get laid, you don't have to be surprised that women don't take you seriously and call you entitled.

“Philosophy is a degree where the value of the study is the study itself, not the job”. “I go to school for free, I’d never pay 50k a semester for a philosophy degree that’s useless.” ?????????????????

I am a philosophy student right now and I think there are options but you need to be good. One thing I really think of as a method to make money and survive from philosophy is learning languages especially: ancient greek, latin, german and french. This could let you translate philosophy books. Then the question you might raise would be why not just do philology instead? Well because I think that a philologist even though they might know those languages better can not translate as well a philosophy book. There are a lot of technical terms and all the philosophical tradition that you should be familiar with. And even the ones who studied philology and translate philosophy always talk a lot with philosophers or have also studied it themselves. Maybe there is a little bit of context that is important: I am romanian so a huge amount of even important books have not been translated yet in romanian. But even if we get over this I think german is very fruitful. The amount of times I was writing something and ended up at the end at an untranslated XIX century german book after going from one book's bibliography to another's its remarkable. So yeah besides being very good in the field or staying in academia I think also translating is a very viable action.

This woman needs to experience reality. She"s still inhabiting the fantasy of left wing educator's distorted textbook. She reminds me of the two scandanavian women who went to camp in the Atlas mountains fantasing that the world was full of brotherly love, until they were violated and beheaded. Reality eventially kicks in. Roll the fantastical excuses by the left whingers.

If they believe what they say, why not live it. They dont, which is why they dont. The communist filth are too stupid to realise that their heroes mock them behind their closed gilded gates. The middle class fake comnies hate the working man, yet all the stupid red students at uni, living off mater and pater need to feel rebelious with other people's money. It's fcuking comical how stupid commies are

I was having these thoughts recently when I was considering my career path, I am a dual citizen in the U.S. and in Slovakia, I was wondering if all schooling in Europe is free or if it just an exclusivity with Norway. I want to pursue something that has more meaning to me rather than study business, although I don't mind it I would like to explore music and more of a music composers study

I love philosophy, art and music. I decided to study Computer Science since I live in a third world country (Bolivia) and I needed a good quality of life since my family has plenty of sick people that need to be taken care of. Do I see a problem in that? No. Do I think philosophy is a useless degree? No. But i do think you can only pursue it (responsibly) if you are born into a privileged background in which you don't have the financial burdens nor the stress to deal with knowing there's no way to thrive in it in the place where you live. I guess most europeans and american fail to see this perspective and fall into the debate that this videos fosters. Honestly, if you feel that you have the security to do so (which is provided already by your parents and economic reality) follow your dreams.

I would say it’s okay if they want to be tradwives, I don’t care. But, the ethical concerns I have is the coercive principles surrounding being a stay at home mom. It isn’t like having a career. When you have a career you can switch jobs, you can maybe even go back to college if your career allows for that. But when you are a tradwife you’re essentially locked into it, and everything you do is at the behest of whatever your partner wants for you. The power dynamic coerces the woman to not leave and is extremely problematic. Maybe in a just society this lifestyle could be possible but given our political landscape I would say it’s wrong from many angles.

There are no more male exclusive spaces. We can’t even have the Boy Scouts be only for boys anymore. Plus, it’s hard to make friends as an adult with working constantly. The best solution would be to join a club for something you like or a gym that gets you around other dudes who you can talk to and form a friendship.

This is so true. What you mean about having a “friends” that are really only there because you’re the one initiating is so true for me. I thought I was the only one. And it’s so weird because I can’t really think of anyone the other way around. I am into my early - mid 30s and thankfully have a soon to be fiancé. I have two long, distant friends that I know and talk to you on the phone most days of the week. But otherwise I barely have anyone I hangout with ever .

For me its simple. Women have a support system with friends and family. For some F-ing reason whenever men talk about loneliness they blame it on the women. The women is at fault for not liking them. This makes zero sense to me. I don't care if a women or man gets many partners or none at all, loneliness is an individual issue. Blaming it on dating is BS

I agree with much of ur content. I agree that working sucks (especially as a young professional). But the two choices as you say isnt “hating it” or “accepting it”. The two choices are “playing the game” or “changing The game”. I am a believer in capitalism and there for I play the game in order to create real value with ownership over my labor. I get the sense you’d rather “change the game”. In other words be an advocate for an alternative economic system (id assume something more akin to socialism). Now I would not insult your intelligence and I can tell thru ur other videos that you are well read- and id assume youve spent time on Marx or Hagel- but why has history shown capitalism wins over socialism every time? Would you agree competition is natural? Can there ever be true equality? Are we more equitable now than we were 200 years ago? Can you quit your job and find another one, or are you indentured? There will always be garbagemen and janitors, how do we decide who works those jobs? Yet among all these questions there is one which is find most important. In a world where equality is a given, and everyones future is certain, what would goals look like?

It never ceases to amaze me how this topic has become populated by a long and weighty list of (miss)labels: house wife, tradwife and so on and on and on... . This does such a good job at confusing readers of any material on this topic. And therein lies the real danger. What are young women to believe? What are they to understand? No idea, right? So many points of view. But in all this confusion remember the guiding universal truths of life that do not need "labels". Birth, children, survival, parenthood... I think one gets the idea. One can philosophize all one wants about freedom, liberation, happiness or whatever labels one enjoys but when your baby is crying because it is meal time, all that will instantly become, well... irrelevant. Survival takes precedence to chat and reasoning. Not to say that they are useless. Pointing fingers and laying blame does not help either. I think that such a point of view guided by universal truths of life is healthy for both body and mind. We tend to forget so readily that we are, after all, simple animals with simple and predictable needs. And when those needs are met we tend to be, maybe not 'happy', but happily content? Celine, when you said 'decisions based on universal principles' are these I mentioned above the universal principles you mentioned? Did I get the message? 😀

Loneliness, male or female, can be healed by friendship in the first place. If you are socially unable to build solid friendship ties, then romance won't help, it will just desorganise your life.

Thomas Aquinas, a prominent Catholic philosopher and theologian, defined friendship as a "union of minds" or a mutual sharing of knowledge, thoughts, and intentions between two people. He distinguished three types of friendship: friendship of utility, friendship of pleasure, and perfect friendship. The perfect friendship, according to Aquinas, is characterized by mutual benevolence, a shared understanding of the good, and the desire for the other's happiness for their own sake. This type of friendship is grounded in virtue and is considered the highest form of friendship.
