Great video! I like to put a Militia in front of a regular or Elite unite. Odds are it will get eliminated, or retreat, but odds are that it will at least cause on hit on the opponent. This can be an easy way to knock down a fresh unit and have it fighting at a disadvantage v your good unit. Knowing when that's a viable strategy is a reward for mastering the system.

That's interesting. Seems like I tend to use them to bluff with. I'm afraid to risk losing them because they die more easily.

Although it was unstated in the video, I presume that when you were trying to avoid being flanked (2:48), you had to stay out of the field of fire of the colonials, as required by the rules and thus you made the "horseshoe" shaped formation (i.e., to guard the flanks and stay out of the field of fire of the colonials).

I find it interesting that the British center is coming off a hill, across a stream, OVER a second hill, across a SECOND stream to hit the enemy in woods that they can't eve see and I would hope the defensive modifiers for the colonials would be Big

Skirmishers, scouts & patrols can see out that far and report. They've known Washington's Army has been sitting here for several days now. They're just driving forward into his right flank. They'll hit something somewhere eventually!

Is there such a thing as backwards movement? Or are you turning about (free of charge) moving 1/3 or 2/3, then turning about again (1/3)? Thanks!

Good question! No, no backwards movement. I'm just taking a short cut to keep the video moving quicker but yes, you are correct. You would technically turn around, march, then spend 1/3 move to turn around again.

Also, the entire division isn't doing a parade wheel, the component regiments are doing the actual turning.

Those are major roads (signified with lamp posts along the side, a common map feature of the period). Units on minor roads become strung out in road formation. At Waterloo, the Prussians become really strung out!
