The so called 7 modes or styles of recitation should not change the meaning of the text. For example, sometimes words are dropped or completely different words are used, such as the word "Created" being recited in the standard text of Qur'an 92:3: Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 468: Narrated Ibrahim: The companions of 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) came to Abu Darda', (and before they arrived at his home), he looked for them and found them. Then he asked them,: 'Who among you can recite (Qur'an) as 'Abdullah recites it?" They replied, "All of us." He asked, "Who among you knows it by heart?" They pointed at 'Alqama. Then he asked Alqama. "How did you hear 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud reciting Surat Al-Lail (The Night)?" Alqama recited: 'By the male and the female.' Abu Ad-Darda said, "I testify that I heard me Prophet reciting it likewise, but these people want me to recite it:-- 'And by Him Who created male and female.' but by Allah, I will not follow them." Now according to the above report, Muhammad, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, and the companions of Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud read Qur'an 92:3 without the word "khalaqa" (created), hence "Ad-Darda said, "I testify that I heard me Prophet reciting it likewise..."" From this it is important to note that ubayy ibn Ka‘b was one companions that taught the Qur'an to the people of Sham, and according to Jeffrey's Materials (pg.360), Ubayy, Ibn Qais and Abu Mijlaz recited Qur’an 92:3 with the additional word "khalaqa". Therefore it's possible that both readings once formed the 7 modes or styles. The problem I have is not in the usage of different words or dropping them, the problem is that the research you are bringing to the table shows word letter variations, which Muhammad objected too: Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri: The Prophet read the verse mentioned above, "min du'f." Grade: Hasan (Al-Albani) حسن (الألباني)حكم : Reference: Sunan Abi Dawud 3979 In-book reference: Book 32, Hadith 11English translation: Book 31, Hadith 3968 Narrated Ibn 'Umar: that he recited the following to the Prophet (): "Who created you in the weakness (Min Da'f)" So he said: "Min Du'f" Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Volume 1, Book 43, Hadith 2936 From this it is important to note that in the above narrations, Muhammad ordered the verse to be recited as (min) مِنْ (Du’f) ضُعْفٍ, which is with a short vowel 'u'. The proof is that there is a Dhammah (u), which makes a letter ''a' sound like the letter 'u' For example this letter is similar to 'oo' as in Zoo, hence it is pronounced as Du'f. Now with regards to the Asim and Hamzah reciters of the Qur’an, which is the majority of translations, it can be seen below that the Dhammah (u) is not used once in Qur’an 30:54: 54 اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن ضَعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ ضَعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضَعْفًا وَشَيْبَةً يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْقَدِيرُ ‘Allah is He Who created you from (min) a state of weakness (daʿfin),’ but according to Umar, Muhammad ordered the verse to be read as, ‘Allah is He Who created you from (min) a state of weakness (du'f).’
