The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.

The thing I've learned from watching these old races, aside from the stands being packed, the racing really isn't that different.

But the racing is different, if the next gen car did as well as these cars on short tracks, the attendance and ratings would probably be a lot better.

"...the racing really isn't that different." Yes, it is, but not for the reasons you may believe. The drivers of today are not, with a few exceptions, of the caliber of these drivers. All of them during this time had proven themselves in regional or lower-level NASCAR series. Today, they succeeded at the simulator. We wonder, amazingly, why they behave as they do on and off the track.

Jerry Punch was a better pit reporter than a lead announcer, I think he was more comfortable on Pit Road

I'm sorry Dr. Jerry Punch... but North Wilkesboro opened in 1947. Not 1961.
