​​@@DaveBartosiewicz The Book of Abraham was this little book which most LDS people ignored, except for our pre-earth life it wasn't mentioned much. Well Hugh Nibley spent time on it but no one else. Then the big hoopla happened with the finding of a small fraction of the scrolls. Anti Mormons made movies and passed them out all over Idaho and Utah. The majority of Mormons shrugged their shoulders and went on with their lives. Turned out the Egyptian know it all they used in the video was fraud. However it did perk more interest in the subject. Dr. Daniel Peterson I guess is my favorite, he actually speaks the Egyptian language along with Hebrew and 4 others. Over the last 20 years or so more and more has been learned by non Mormon scholars. Our scholars have just been comparing the similarities.

The Lord promises laws that will come to us after the NEW covenant. The laws set forth in our temples is the zenith of that promise. Well one thing that you need to understand with the basis of Christian thinking is that we do not accept the Book of Abraham or the BOM. We also know that the Christian Church had nothing to do with Temples after the Temple of Solomon. The point I am trying to make is that just because you believe what you believe and is far from what we as Christians have been taught for thousands of years, is the basis of our foundation and Truth where we hold it to our hearts and minds. Therefore, how can Christians believe that the Egyptian temple ordinances which are not affliated with the God of the OT and NT to agree with you? Please tell me how it's possible? @@DaveBartosiewiczEmperor Constantine had a vote in the Nicean council where they adopted his pagan belief of Homoousious so that Christianity could become legal. But if you look at the Council of Antioch 267AD , the Church rejected it and instead declared Christ to be Homoiousious(of similar/like substance) NOT the SAME substance of God. The Nicene Creed is based on Pagan theology and Church Fathers went along with it to appease the Emperor.

That's because freemasons borrowed a lot from the ancient Egyptian rituals.

If you're actually interested in this and have time to go down a fascinating rabbit hole... the truth is that Joseph Smith was raised and initiated into a Mystical version of Freemasonry called Rosicrucianism. His family and his neighbors were Rosicrucian. He was initiated during the 4 year waiting period to get the plates. This is how it was done. They would meet once a year on the autumnal equinox and a father would initiate his son up the degrees. Women were allowed also which is different than Freemasonry. His mothers book, Lucy Mack, is loaded with Rosicrucian references and documents her initiation but you wont see it until you know what to look for. For example, a near death experience is necessary. Josephs story about his leg operation is his and his mothers book is filled with near death experiences. She tells stories where she almost died about 6 times. (Freemasons do this theatrically by bonking you on the head and you fall back into the arms of some men that catch you). I'm confident that she was a descendant of Alexander Mack but I can't prove it yet. He brought Rosicrucianism to America in the 1700's. There was "temple" in PA where they wore all white, initiated women, did temple sealings and baptism for the dead. The 1616 book "The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkruetz" is the "Genesis" for Rosicrucianism and reading it will blow your mind. You will see Mormonism in it ALL throughout. I can go on and on about this if you're interested. When Mormons today go into a temple and take an oath of secrecy and are initiated, they are actually participating in a modern form of Rosicrucianism and they have no idea. There is no doubt Joseph Smith was a Mystic but most of that has been dumbed down these days. To answer your question about Freemasonry, a modern Mormon thinks that it was given to Adam and Eve in the Garden and the Egyptians had it but corrupted it. The Freemasons inherited the corrupted version which is why Joseph Smith needed to restore the true version.

I heard that the Rosicrucianism movement didn't like free masons much, claiming that free masons took a lot of their teachings and used them for the wrong purposes. I would be curious to learn more about Joseph Smith's rosicrucian background.

Many elements of the temple found in common w/ Masonry are due to both being rooted in ancient symbols & practices, such as Solomon's Temple. Many are evident in Joseph's visions and revealed scriptures years before he became a Mason, such as theosis (Joseph acquired All-Seeing Eye from seer stones + Urim & Thummim), compass & square (engraved on top of gold plates), Ether 3 (God asks a series of questions and puts His hand through the veil, gives white stones to the Brother of Jared, a man whose name is unknown in the text). A 6th century mosaic depicts Christ and the apostles with a square on their garments. An ancient Christian cemetery in Egypt has people buried with small rosettes over each breast and one on the right leg near the knee. Early Christians had hand clasps. Margaret Barker, a Methodist, was blown away by how much it resembles First Temple Judaism.
