I feel for you dude. I don’t have a degree, just HS diploma and 20+yrs in manufacturing, I’m now 52 yo. I had been laid off a few times, didn’t know when our next meal would come from or if we’d even have a roof over our head. 3 mos into not finding a job, I had to do something, I had to be marketable. So every time I got laid off, I learn a new trade (trucking, culinary, construction and investing) never really made lots of money but learned to save and stayed afloat. I’ve been back in manufacturing (QA) five yrs now; company just laid off half of its staff and I’m prepared if/when I’m next. I have other skills now that I can fall back on. I can cut lawns, haul trash, build sheds, reno homes, or start a food truck, or maybe just sit back and collect my rental incomes. If not for lay-offs, I would not have learned new skills to be more marketable and financially comfortable.

keep statistics on who gets the job. You can do that by snooping around linked in after a few months. I did that for 100 jobs that i had applied to in 2022-2023. Not much, but as a graphics designer and 3D artist you are kind of limited in offers. here are my findings: roughly 30% led to an interview. All 100 recruiters were female, The only men i met were an occasional male CEO. Most hired are: Juniors (70% of cases) Female (99% of cases) 85% of cases they were a worse candidate than me. Many didn't even have more than 1-2 years of experience and not even a portfolio to market themself (i got 12+ years btw and multi-disciplinary). What i can gather is there's an extreme case of misandry in the recruitment industry. Even if companies do not advertise that they are applying DEI practices.. it's quite evident that they are. I almost ended up on the streets but i managed to get some jobs through my own company that i started and have survived on the income from my company so far. So i see a lot of men complaining they can't get hired. It's predominantly men so i have a suspicion that it's not just a lack of interest from employers.. but also for certain types of individuals.

I was out of work some years ago. Sent out 500 resumes over 6 month. It wasn't the same resume. I tweaked it for every job. I had 5 interviews. 3 of them were for temp agencies. One told me after the interview was done: I had 5 people I called in, you're the last one, but I hired the 4th yesterday. So I asked why they didn't cancel the interview. She literally said: you seem like an interesting person. I was so frustrated.
@canny3d13 күн бұрын
If you have send out more than 10 resumes without getting a job/job offers/contact, then the problem could be you. You're flooding the market, lessening the chance for somebody more suitable than you getting that job. Better/hone your skills in the areas that you're lacking with the time you're spending time sending resumes. People rarely finish reading the job descriptions or know anything about the company before rushing to send their application.

I lost my position as a Senior Meteorologist back in 2004. I was 48 years old. A month later, I got work at a temp agency for $8.50 an hour, as an entry level analyst at Coca-Cola. This was MORE than an seventy percent pay cut...but I knew I would progress, and I did. I fully retired 13 years later, after getting on full time, and promoted no fewer than five times. Don't be afraid to start BELOW where you want too.

Thai is a great video Jeremy! I’m two month into my job search and starting a bridge job still in my area but with a huge pay cut 🙃but I will be able to cover my expenses and will get health insurance for myself and my family. The closets I’ve been to offers are because of networking! And I agree about how the market values specialists instead of generalists - that was the trend a few years ago - this is why I have decided to pursue a masters degree to position myself better for the future.

sadly, from what i seen, the most vulnerable people to layoff are sales/marketing, HR, Product Program Managers, IT. And then after all that, it's the engineers they start laying off.

I was in and out of jobs the first 5 years out of college. It was brutal. In 2019, I finally landed a corporate job as a contractor, and now I worked myself up as a manager. I still live with my parents, and I save 60% of what I make, I max out my 401k and Roth IRA, and put additional savings in an index fund. The paranoia hasn't left me and I KNOW exactly what you're experiencing. Its so rough, especially now. Hang in there people! Save what you can so you can prepare for situations like this!

In this job market I'm scared of switching jobs (I'm in IT tech support), I have friends unemployed for 9 months trying to find a job in IT (helpdesk). The only possible way right now is referral with someone you know or switch fields (skilled trades or blue collar). Job postings regularly have 4000 applicants, especially if the job is remote, tons of new immigrants and people outside of the country are applying
@BangMaster9626 күн бұрын
It all comes down to supply and demand, there are just way too many People in the tech market looking for tech jobs that you become just a number for these Companies. For each new job opening, there will be 100 to 1,000 People applying for that job, your resume will likely not even pass through the screening due to this. The tech market is over saturated, all those ads and propaganda over the last 10 years of telling everyone 'learn to code', get a tech degree, software boot camps telling you that you can get a $100k remote comfy job, etc., has made tens of thousands of new People across USA come into the tech industry. The problem is that market is just over saturated with so many People right now, even if you are an experienced developer, you are competing with People from all over the US, maybe even the World due to the remote nature of tech jobs now. The over saturation has killed the tech job market for job seekers, the only thing you can do is keep applying, or learn new skills and switch to a different career path entirely. There is really nothing else in our hands when it comes to landing a job, let alone a job interview in this market. And Companies know this all well, that's why they keep job listings open to gather a pool of candidates, and the can use that as a leverage in the future to pay low to any potential hires.

I mean, I know the struggle of finding a job... But visa holders lose their jobs and they have just 60 days (2 months) to find another job.... At least you're in a position that you can take your time to find a job. Count your blessings. It's the market... It's nobody's fault. When the govt was handing out free money, everyone was getting hired with pay bumps of 30% 40% etc... Now it's the other way around... No one to blame

Jeremy, I heard you loud and clear. The same happened to me in May this year. I was a security architect at a medical device company until they laid off my entire team. I've searched, applied, and interviewed at a lot of organizations. Sometimes, i got to the end of the interview process without offers. Sometimes, i got scheduled for final interviews only to have the recruiter call off the interviews. To make the story short, I just got sick of the craziness and just started my own cybersecurity company with a partner who's currently a BISO. We're currently fleshing out our service templates and will need a cybersecurity salesperson soon. Fellas, reach out if you're a fit and interested in joining. By the way, I'm a computer engineer who has built and sold a few successful businesses before. I've also had my fair share of failed businesses in the past (two to be specific), so I'm not under any illusion regarding how to make a business work. We'll be providing cybersecurity services to small and medium-sized enterprises in the short term. For the long-term, we're building an AI-driven enterprise email security product that'll bring capabilities currently non-existent. If you're interested, email [email protected].

I've been trying to leave fast food recently, but too bad hiring managers are selfish bastards that can't even give a shit about anyone's feelings about people wanting a job. Especially when you apply, they don't reach out to you, they don't call you for an interview, even if you've been through an interview, they say they'll call you but they don't. They ghost you, it's so fucking bullshit that managers nowadays are heartless and they can't make people's lives happier. Not everyone has great interview skills but why can't the real world care about our feelings? Idk, I hate real life so much. I've been going through a lot of tough times with depression because this world is heartless😭

@winterheatАй бұрын
manager or companies hire these days: 1) buddy buddy females 2) buddy buddy guy 3) pretty girl 4) pretty boy. Some manager openly admits that he doesn't want somebody with great technical skills. He just wants somebody doing the job quick and dirty, fast, and will make him look great to get the new stock grant or promotion or just let me him in the company for the next 5 or 10 or 20 years until he retires. It is like a pack of ... I don't what to call them, occupying Earth

Except it is Hell because I am looking for a job to just get by til work in the union picks up again which proly won't happen for another 6 months. But I am still looking and going through the same shit for even the low paying jobs. It's crazy man. Hopefully Trump and his team straighten that out too. I heard something that companies can lie and make more money from the government by not hiring people or creating ghost jobs. Plus selling the info on our applications for money to data collection bases. It's messed up and oughta be illegal.
