Ben once fought a sea monster and wanted ripjaws but got xlr8 but I think ben was more effective with saving the civilians with xlr8. The watch knows ben better than ben knows himself -PLOT. If ben got every alien he wanted every time fights would be shorter and every episode would be 10 minutes. The watch is OP so the writers needed something to kinda handicap ben at any point in time. Like Superman with kryptonite -May seem like the watch is trolling but it’s taught him how to adapt in any situation. Ben may want stinkfly to chase a criminal but he may get heatblast. So ben learned how to use heatblast’s pyrokinesis to make a construct to allow him to still fly.
