Solasta 1 was great for its budget and scope. I especially loved the three-dimensionality of it, how I could, for example, detonate a fireball mid-air and catch multiple enemies with it when in BG3 I often had the issue of enemies or allies being in the way and I had to either make a pixel perfect click or was just unable to do what I wanted. Also, holding actions was great in Solasta, and it is another thing I prefer over BG3's system. Also the UI was just better imo, with all available moves being grouped by resource, action type and spell level, as opposed to BG3's bar of abilities. Very excited to see what they can do with a bigger budget and hope they keep these elements from the first game.

I actually think them taking your romance companion would've been great. Yes I understand that most people play with that character in there party, but it would force players to have to pick someone else from the party that they've probably never tried before. I can see why they choose against it, but I think they missed a bit with that.

I started to play Solasta, but then BG3 came out and i played it. Voice acting, animation, character creation, story- all was better. But there is one thing i really liked in Solasta- option to Hold action. I kinda wanna believe that Solasta 2 will be better, so i guess i should finish Sol1 and DLCs to really continue the story.

My biggest problem with the original Solasta was that the armors and clothing looked bulky and puffy, like you were wearing five poofy winter coats. Looks like they got THAT fixed. I wonder if it's easier to being in new meshes for new creatures...

as someone who played BG3 and the first Solasta game i can't really compare them, Narratively Solasta fell flat on its face for me and i think it had alot to do with the limitations of character design and DLC being needed in order to play specific classes where as BG3 was an all included trip into the world of DnD and mod support from the developers themselves only enhanced that further, if Solasta II wants to succeed and be the best it can be i'm hoping they'll have learned some things from BG3's success.

Solasta is a very good game, I backed it long time ago on kickstarter and it didn't fail. The only problem it has is the graphic quality which doesn't live up to todays standards and I really hope it will be improved in the sequel.

Solasta is okay, I liked it well enough. Though liking BG3 is going to be a poor leading indicator if one likes Solasta. The D&D system isnt what makes BG3 great. BG3 is great because of the outstanding characters, setting, world building, reactivity, and role-playing. Even being generous Solasta was mediocre at all the above. It was a really good faithful combat sandbox and that was about it. That will appeal to alot of people myself included but will not really overlap with the broader BG3 fanbase. As for Solasta 2 ... not really enough information to know ... but I would say so far the Solasta team hasnt show much talent along the aforementioned parameters that made BG3 exceptional. Hope springs eternal but that all this is. It isn't an evidenced based conclusion.

There are many things that make bg3 great. My first run through i was in tiers over companion stories. My second with a co op honour mode run story and companions were meaningless but the depth of combat and companionship of playing it with my friends made for a completely new experience. But on the story front I tried to highlight specifically in this video thst for solasta 2 they're putting budget into that specifically. They're admitting to issues especially with the acting that they're trying to improve with the sequel.

It may be hard to implement mods into Solasta 2 being tied to Unreal5, mods create a more tailormade experience for gamers and also can help to gain higher review scores. After all, it can be a tough slog to play a game in which you feel is lacking features (that could be added by modders) or has tedious or annoying mechanics (that can be stripped out by modders), this can turn a 7-8/10 game into a 9-10/10 game. Of course nothing beats direct communication with the playerbase whilst in development, but even then you'll never cater to everyone, mods can bridge those gaps. Baldur's gate 3 in it's vanilla form isn't a 10/10 for me personally, but modded it's pretty close. 😉

They were asked a few questions about mods and I think it will be more difficult than the first game. I also wouldn't imagine they'd have the resources for official mod tools like larian unfortunately

I love Solasta: CotM in all it's janky, "ugly modeled" glory. If Solasta 2 is just more Solasta, but prettier, I'm 100% all in. It's not a better story than BG3, but the gameplay, combat, and feeling like just playing the tabletop in video game form was much better imo.

Solasta was (and still is) a fantastic game if you could get over the ugly character models and I'm definitely excited about Solasta II coming. It also implemented the PnP rules really well and fortunately WotC can't interfere or influence it's development.

i love Solasta it is a unique game , had a real blast with it, yes the animations and voice acting can be little wonky, but that does not matter when the combat is so good and it is made by a small team. This game lead me to BG 3 and cant wait for Solasta 2, i have a feeling its going to be as good as BG 3, 2025 is going to be a great year for RPG fans.

I would say that most BG3 fans aren't there for the DnD 5 edition, but for the heavy story-driven narrative, characters and the choices & consequences. Basically everything that Solasta 1 severely UNDELIVERED. Solasta 2 would need to pick up a lot of slack before any 'Baldur's Gate 3 fans will love it' statements should even be considered.
@RedbeardflynnRollsAOne

Depends. There's no single element that made bg3 what it is. It's a mix of so much. I've been having a blast in co op for example which is fairly devoid of storytelling and characters and largely comes down to the combat depth. But my first playthrough also brought me to tears. Which is why I tried to highlight thst for solasta 2 that appears to be where they're spending a lot of budget to give actors more time to get into their characters.

@@RedbeardflynnRollsAOne Have to disagree, while larian does make amazing gameplay and interactive world to go whit it, dnd 5th edition really added nothing to that formula and acording to devs was a hinderence in developing gameplay due to having to be as close to ruleset as possible. So as far as bg3 sucess goes; majority is because of larian involvment and greater budget due to dos2 sucess and ones who played for dnd part, Well 5th edition hasent exactly been most popular edition in dnd community and even amogst them id say larger part is cursing larian for having been given their favorite franchise, so ones enjoying game because of 5th edition would be minority of a minority.

Bg3 player should play Wrath of the Righteous or Deadfire if they're here for the story. Tyranny or Rogue Trader if they want to be really evil (WotR and Deadfire can be really good too as evil too, but Tyranny and RT gace their universe and lore that help an evil character). Solasta is really good but mostly for the gameplay and mechanic.

Solasta was a limited 5E game, using the limited basic rules that anyone can use without WotC having any ability to interfere! The classes, subclasses, feats, magic items and spells created for Solasta were some great replacements for the 5E stuff that WotC still controls! It is such a fun game and the 2 expansion were very fun!

Not gonna lie, I never heard of the first one. The fact that it came out in 2021... I'm not too shocked about that since I wasn't really gaming much in those days. If I was playing anything it was sticking with the old games that I knew. Hearing about BG3 early access got me back into games like this because I loved the Baldur's Gate games back in the day. I will definitely want to try this one when it's available.
