Simon is much more optimistic than me. When he says things like "We will become a wiser society" I think "LOL, have you met people? Have you observed the way our politicians behave?" I still regularly encounter people who think fossil fuels will never run out and global warming is a myth. I really hope Simon is right, but I moved out of the big city some years ago. The one hope I have on this topic is advances in technology. There are a lot of very smart people working this problem in various ways. But the problem with paradigm shifting technologies is you can't predict when they'll come or what they'll be, and sometimes the ones you expect never arrive. (Where's my flying car?)

just remember that oil and gas drilling and exports have increased under Biden, as the U.S. is now the world's biggest oil and gas driller and biggest oil/gas exporter. This is in human history. I live right next to the Permian Basin, the world's largest and most productive oilfield. It was also Biden and Obama who massively increased fracking in this country

I'm behind the climate movement 110% Athough everything is interconnected.. keep laser focused. Avoid divisive side issues like the plague, we will always lose "normal" voters when we go on one about Example - Palestein, most people like my boomer mum don't even understand that issue and she gets all her news from the telegraph and the BBC. For the press this makes us an easy target to divide and conquer. We are losing public support because of these conflation of problems, I might say there is NO issue greater than climate change and billions might die.. yes Palestine is important but

To me, disturbing to find this in a short, no context, nothing. And actually, the short rather raised negative feelings against it. I do not feel it is right, to publish just this information, no one can check because there is no context at all.

In 1982, NASA/Sandia Labs demonstrated the viability of Magma Energy - a practically limitless source of high grade clean energy that could replace fossil fuels worldwide, ten times over, carbon free forevermore. Given such monolithic amounts of clean energy to spend, we could desalinate, irrigate, recycle and capture carbon, and so raise 4bn people out of poverty sustainably. We could develop wastelands rather than burn the forests, we could recycle all waste. So we could continue to grow into the long term future!

XR got it wrong. What's actually wrong with human extinction? Only that will save the planet. Human beings are inately short termist and selfish -and there are now, way, way too many of us. Karen and Darren want a new £7K hot tub on their patio, regular restaurant meals, a brand new car every three years and an annual long-haul holiday - regardless of any negative consequences for others, including their own kin. A majority will never vote for having less, and the New Barons will never accept economic recession. Collapse of our economy, and therefore our life support system, is pre-determined and inevitable. Human greed and cognitive dissonance will assure this. Climate denial is just one weapon in a corrupt system's arsenal. A majority can easily be convinced into voting directly against their own interests, with Brexit and Trump 2.0 as prime examples of this. Enjoy the ride... Oh, and Insulate Britain was an "Astroturfing operation" which conveniently coincided with the Police Crime and Sentencing Bill to make the majority of voters hate climate activists enough to accept a significant erosion of everyone's human rights. Well meaning activist footsoldiers were exploited as "arrestables" to assure the anti-activist headlines which gained public support for the Bill. We have all been had and there's nothing any of us can do about it.

I assume that this is somewhere in the U.K. Stories of imprisonment and beatings in the U.S., where I am living, are not uncommon but certainly do not get discussed or dealt with because the power structure itself was born out of violence. “War of Independence, genocide of Indians and the buffalo, enforcement of slavery, enforcement of capitalism… It has gone on for so long that most are inured to it and think that we live in a normal community. As the comedian, Chris Rock, once asked, “when was the last time you saw an American Indian family eating at a Red Lobster restaurant?” When it gets to the point where they are arresting “white” people then it gets some anesthetized to say, “Hmmmm. What is wrong with this picture?” Even then, most will find a way to cover over the cognitive dissonance. Julian Assange should have been/be a three alarm fire for so called civilized societies.

Hello Rachel, I would just like to make a point that you said "slashing tyres" in the video which is misleading, what the "tyre extinguishers" do is let the tyres down, not slash them in any way. Many opposing people have said that to me, making out damage is done, to be deliberately mislead. That said I love your channel and what you do very much best wishes Peter.

If temperatures go up to 2, permafrost will unfreeze and temperature will go up regardless of more fossil fuels... and AMOC might stop... and the forest will be gone. So even if fossil fuels are gone by then, that will not stop temperature rise.

I’ve been arrested 9 times for climate protest - both XR and Insulate Britain. I had to do 240hrs of community service as well as pay loads of fines. One tool they used against IB was to place injunctions on the roads and then National Highways took us to court to claim the legal expenses of placing the injunctions- a bill which came to about £3,000 for each of us. We had some help from JSO but ended up having to foot at least half of this bill each - and that was on top of the fines we had to pay for obstruction of a highway and for some of us public nuisance! The continual barrage of legal documents being presented by agents coming to our houses was very intimidating and went on and on. I have had to take a stand back from protest but continue to spread the message through my work as an artist. Thanks for a great interview!

Evidence is now surfacing, from the 1943 era after WWI, documentation from California Air Pollution Agencies on how the fossil fuel companies were warned and aware of how “NOT to increase CO2 levels “which were damaging “civilization” as early as 1954. Currently, the courts are basing evidence on the 1970’s. If Switzerland 🇨🇭 is getting worried about CLIMATE BREAKDOWN, the ELITES are SCARED.

I wish we had time to build the Direct Participatory Democracies, in my estimation ( of a 40 year climate activist) we only have 5 years to lower atmospheric CO2 down to a climate stable min 300ppm. Even then we will witness the extinction of nearly all life, in theory we can stop worst case scenarios of total extinction but to do that would require 2 rapid transitions. 1) move to a plant based food System so we could reforest the 78% of agricultural land that would be freed up. 2 move to Decentralised Carbon Neg (Non Fossilised) Algae Based Economies. 🌻🌎✌🏽

Get better understanding of the climate change and perhaps get onto Dane Wigington and look up! I won’t bag this lass as she has had on plenty intelligent types whom hold constructive insights. Bravo for having concerns and love for the planet and its inhabitants but please don’t give this fella much of any credit. Comes across like too much indoctrination of what’s makes matters worse for us all. Lift your game mate you could do more if your redirect your energies toward true love and more positive actions. @jamesgrover20052 күн бұрын
We already have a better understanding of climate change. There's a 50/50 chance the gulf stream well cease to be before 2050, there's no doubt it is collapsing. That's just one tipping point of many. You seem to be suggesting young people should get educated, why get educated when governments aren't listening to the consensus of Science? I might add for context many people think that a scientific consensus refers to a large group of scientists who all agree that something is true. In reality, a scientific consensus is a large body of scientific studies that all agree with and support each other. We've had this consensus for a long long time.

I think we need to be honest with ourselves and the public. Because we have ignored the threat of AGW for at least fifty years, the measures needed are now so drastic and the changes required of peoples lifestyles they have become accustomed to so dramatic i.e banning of car ownership, banning of air travel, banning meat and dairy, banning ownership of cats and dogs, banning fossil fuel home heating (which is considerably cheaper at present than electric), banning of consumerism, rationing of essential items, open borders for climate refugees etc etc people will never vote for it Trump's success is an indicator of this. I hate to tell you but democracy is an inappropriate political system in a time of climate and ecological breakdown. These unpopular but highly necessary measures can only be enforced via some form of totalitarian system e.g fascism or communism .

My vision is that the situations upcoming will re-establish the one house one family foundation of society that was and what was done in the place i grew up but globally. Then i think each family will have to pick a speciality and interact with their neighbours to replace the production lines of today with. As a result each household is a technofeudal system. Some will be able to do multiple steps and fewer still be even larger, but there would non of the structure we have now. Thirdly, those groups of people who are non technphilic and or have low fertilty of under 2 will go extinct, while having both will be encouraged. Bcause of the decentralized system, those processes that destroy the environment will just also go extinct with the technofeudal locales that do consider the environment as well. Thus in this world, we no longer have to worry about acedmic peer review which is fed by corrupt interests and standards. Nor we will have to tell the gov. anything we are doing, nor will be able to respond anyway. This would be a boom to biotech, which is my specialty, since real changes could be implimented rather then what is now which is experiment to drug discovery over permenent genetic solutions to problems that the average person can see as well etc.
