Thank you so so SO SO SO much for sharing your experience with this. I'm actually quite upset with the distributer for not sending me anything for literally months, calling the pattern a 'beginner' pattern before proceeding to provide some of the most abysmal instructions I've ever seen! 'Sew the back to the front once you've sewn the back to itself and to the other front which should also be sewn the the front thats been sewn to the other back'. Why are they calling this a beginner pattern while they explain a non-beginner-sewist pattern so horrifically that even an experienced sewist isnt quite sure what in the blazes they're on about? I felt stolen from when they sent me nothing for months after taking my money, and now STILL feel stolen from looking at these beyond awful instructions! I am a beginner and have dealt with only 10, 15- maybe even 20? Patterns. This is hands down the worst set or instructione uve ever seen- ever. Which puts it in the bottom 10% of any instructions I've ever paid money for, nevermind never being sent anything until I blasted them on instagram after being ignored for several months. Just... God. I think i might have a better time following your video thsn trying to decipher the dross i was sent in the mail.

Thank you for tutorial. Ive just cut out my fabric for this pattern, but decided to mash a different top to it. I love the dress i last made ( the top half especially) but love the skirt and pockets on this one, so fingers crossed it works as im just a novice. So much better to see it being made than following instructions.

I loved the basting of the double ended dart, however if you sewed through the paper did you trim your stitches to take the paper off. It didn’t look like that in the shot after so I wondered if you had done something else. Thanks

Cashmerette has a great size calculator. The upper bust is measured without a bra :) Your rayon fabric stretched and moved about while you we pressing the interfacing - I struggled for a while before my Gran showed me. You can always place the fabric pieces over interfacing then cut and then iron it on.

I see zero support for the center front weight, which for anyone with heavy breasts is where the posture crippled (pulls pectoralis tighten, shoulder blades slide forward, as trapezius slacken) and diaphragm breathing is compressed. Horrible. Still no stable and supportive front closure. Still making back closure for the ease of access for someone other than me..........

Can confirm the Peppermint Everyday Dress is totall doable for beginners! I did it for this challenge last year, and it took me two whole days and lots of fretting over nothing, but I ended up with an awesome fun dress in happy cactus pattern fabric. If any other beginners are watching this and like that dress, go for it! Look up a sewalong on KZbin too, that helps a ton. Great pattern suggestions, looking forward to seeing what you end up making!

About that gorgeous broderie anglais, it instantly made me think of the dress that Raph made on the GBSB last year I think. Also, Viki sews has a free dress pattern that’s been made up in the same gold colour broderie anglais as the one Raph made, if I remember correctly he dyed his fabric just as you’re suggesting. It might be an idea to check them both out for inspo!

The first fabric looks like a brodery anglais, which is great for a looser fitting bodice and super breathable in hot weather. I agree that lining it would be a good idea with those holes! You could make something really simple like the Ashton Top by Helen's Closet or the Ogden Cami by True Bias and just extend the facing to fully line them! Not free patterns, but potential ideas if you don't use the fabric up for Sew Frugal.

Liked your picks. That lovely broderie Anglaise that you haven't used because it's white. Have you ever thought about dying it? Cotton always takes dye well and if the thread is polyester it will end up being a different shade which might look fun. And that transparent fabric could have a cami under it. I've decided that I'm going to make that lovely free Etta cami and then make a blouse out of some lovely chiffon I've never used for the same reason.

Love that you've dug out your oldest fabrics - that's exactly what the challenge is about! The 1st one looked like a broderie Anglais to me usually cotton with the embroidery being a polyester thread, so sometimes tricky to dye as the polyester doesn't take the dye as well as cotton! Thanks for sharing your ideas & patterns Jody 🤗
