Simply stated... Beautiful and exotic. Griffes was brilliant cut down by the Spanish Flu too early in life. The man never wrote a bad piece of music. His output isn't big, but talk about Quality!.....

Thanks for commenting! I returned to the States in 2019 after being overseas for around seven years. I got busy with things here and there, so the channel sort of just sat there. I might try to do something different now besides uploading music, but still related to American composers. Still thinking about it.

Sorry, but this work hurts my brain, and I can appreciate (and enjoy) the works of Stravinsky. To me, this work feels random, aimless, plodding, simple, and lacking real dynamics. There's only one part that sounds novel and enjoyable to my ears, and I wish the whole work could be expanded around that theme. 10:37 to 11:06.

Marvelous music, of real significance? Why? The frequent use of fiths and colors, sensitivity to overtones, still rare at this time.

You can hear how his music (along with Ravel, Villalobos and a few others) were precursors to modern movie music.

To me, they are all lovely - many of them exuberantly joyous, and others, quiet in a reverent joy. My favorite of all is the Latin, with its repeated burst of upward melody that just explodes in joy that cannot be contained! I am glad it’s featured 3 times. Thank you for this.

I was almost taken aback at the numerous Carter videos with sort of everyday industrial structures - mostly high rises and with lots of tinted glass - and fog or clouds rolling in or by .... it struck me as ordinary and not equal to the lofty and sometimes mystical leanings in Carters music. As i continue to meditate on the images themselves while the music streams i find myself connecting on a deeper level between the physical structures depicted and the music. I have always associated physical structures with spectral indeed "industrial" music ala Xennakis and a couple of others. What I'm trying to say is there is an industrial quality to Carter's music - but more to do with hustle and bustle of city life and its hecticness and chaos and sometimes beauty and elegance. I have always thought Carter's music more than perhaps any other expressed the modern day stream-of-consciousness associated with life. Sometimes pastoral, sometimes more city, at times even burlesque or carnival like - but I always thought of industrial as a lower form of music. The insistence of certain types of images by the uploader has forced me to contemplate Carter's industrial qualities in a very different way.
