You could sprinkle some brown sugar before placing your pineapple slice for a more authentic upside down cake.

Is that the 3 cup rice cooker from Black and Decker?

Definitely need to try some crockpot meals for one. It’s just me and my husband. He’s been pretty sick for a while and hardly eats. When he does eat it’s usually cereal, French toast or eggs. I try to cook things for myself that I can divide and put individual servings in the freezer. Of course there’s baked potatoes, a salad or grilled cheese for an easy meal. Would be nice to just have a single home cooked meal from the crockpot.

Walmart has a 6 cup Aroma rice cooker for $19.79. It has a metal steamer tray that fits on top, and the lid goes on top, or you can just use the rice cooker.

6:42 do you think it would be better if the chicken went on the bottom of the pot? Perhaps it would cook faster that way?

Whenever cooking rice, I always add a tomato on top. It gets steamed and then just mix in and the skin peels straight off.

I don't care for beef liver at all, but I really like chicken liver -- IF it is cooked with LOTS of onion. I saute the onion first and cook a LOT more onion than liver (in oil or butter) and THEN add the chicken livers. I don't cook the livers too long. (The length of time you cooked the livers would be overdone to me.) I don't like the taste of liver cooked alone, but when cooked with lots of onion (like one large onion to 1/2 lb. chicken liver) it doesn't even taste the same at all. It tastes GOOD!

I wonder how it works out using a more modern crockpot with these 70s recipes from back when the crockpots had settings at much lower temperatures. (People were ignoring the directions and putting frozen meat in their crockpots, then going off to work, coming home and eating the meal in the crockpot and getting sick -- and then suing the manufacturers. So the manufacturers got together and decided to raise the temperatures on the settings so that people would not get sick and sue them.)

Seems like a lot of work for 1 little batch of pie dough. I’m thinking double or triple it, divide it up, and stick it in the fridge. Then you can have a mini pie several days in a row. 😁
@davidf.8345Күн бұрын
You can also brush the pie with heavy cream. That way you don’t have to use a whole egg for 1 mini pie.

For some, the greasiness of McDonald's hash browns is part of their charm. It adds a certain indulgence and decadence to the breakfast experience. It's like treating yourself to a guilty pleasure once in a while. However, for others who prefer a cleaner and less greasy meal, it might be necessary to explore alternative options or modify their order to suit their preferences.

OMG I just watched this and I swear the whole building heard me laughing! You guys are hilarious (and brave) to try this recipe. I was thinking "well if someone put it in a cookbook, it has to be good (?)" NOT. I wonder if it should have been pineapple instead of banana? ok, I don't blame you for not wanting to try this one again. LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣

😂 We totally reference this video all the time in our house! We say things like "It's not good but its no ham banana" lol. The ham banana will live in infamy!

Impressive video, Claire Risper. Eager to see more content from you. I clicked the thumbs up icon on your upload. Keep up the wonderful work! The concept of baking in a water bath really adds a unique twist to this vintage recipe. I'm curious, do you think experimenting with different herbs and spices could enhance the flavor profile even more, or would that stray too far from the original intent of the recipe?
@ClaireRisperКүн бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! I think if the ration of bread, eggs and and milk stayed the same and the water bath method was used, the original recipe would definitely still be honored. I think switching the protein to sausage would be soooo tasty! More like a breakfast casserole maybe?
