Thank you. I am using strings starting with 11. I just switched to a 20 wound. I’m happy.

Voltage attenuators are to protect British amps that were designed to run on 115V and will protect the circuitry of your amp from US standard 120V that often exceeds 124V the variance in tone is subjective but the protection it gives your British amp is objective.

I always wondered if Fender brought these string gauges out to "fix" the intonation on an original Telecaster bridge (which they do, funnily enough), Leo was an engineer after all, not a musician.☯️👍

Sustain relies on nut, strings and bridge...the better the quality the longer the sustain..I've played boltons with insane sustain vs crappy built neckthrough's...Tone relies on pickups only...no wood involved in tone shaping on electric instuments.

Everyone needs to grab a short scale. Even a cheapo. Go to a pawn shop and grab an EBO/SG bass, or a Hofner copy. Often when they're used someone already modded them. I've been playing bass for over 20 years though recently obtained an IYV Beatle Bass... and it's scary good. The original Hofner basses were meant to sound like an upright and the short scale, flatwound strings, and mostly hollow chambers really make you think differently. Next is a 32 - something in the middle... though really the shorty covers so much ground I'm not too pushy yet.

Funny, I didn't realize this til just now: with a "5 string" bass, you're really only gaining two or three notes if you're playing in any given key. For instance in the key of Em like you were playing, you can then grab the D and the B. That's just two notes. I suppose also the C walking down to the B would also work, but it's almost like a passing note to get to the 5th (that low B). Anyway, I guess growing up never having played a 5 string bass I thought you were gaining a lot more than you actually are. It's a few extra low notes if you're staying in key. Even chromatically it's only 5 notes total... but staying in key you're gaining 3 at best and most likely 2 for most basslines. Interesting. (you would also gain Cm and Dm in a lower register.. that's actually pretty cool. Instead of playing Cm at the 8th fret and Dm at the 10th fret... or 3rd fret and 5th fret but the 3rd string)

I have one. I use it with '50s and '60s amps. '70s and '80s amps don't need it. New boutique amps and reissues don't need it. So this demo features the wrong amps.

What about Floyd Rose guitars? You have to cut both ends, how do you solve that problem on the side that goes into the bridge?

Very informative, thank you, but the video could be improved by frontal lighting and not a bright window behind the speaker's head. Tempted to see how your strings compare to the brand I've used consistently for the last 12 years.

This is huge I was thinking about this idea today (you can EQ each string individually and do a lot of amazing things such as cleaning up distortion and preventing tones from overlapping + you could have 18+ channels to work with for a LOT cleaner audio output) Essentially for digital processing this makes for a literal better electric guitar design With the current standard I feel like the output is way too ''hot'' to process digitally but if you can register each pickup individually you can have 18 (or more) seperate channels to work with Which prevents clipping with EQ adjustments Say you want to clip some bass frequencies from your A or D string but you want to leave them on your E string, you can't really do this with just 1 channel but with each pickup registering each string individually you can sort out the frequencies and this helps with amplification because amplification should be the final step So you sort out your bass you get your midtones dialled in (etc) and THEN you throw on the amp / distortion it's gonna be a lot clearer and distinct Also this guitar build sounds great how much does it cost? I think this is the way forward really Should be an industry standard And I think an improvement is getting each individual pickup so you have 18+ channels instead of 6 Tho idk how you've set this up exactly but I think a lot is possible

I've been playing 12 string guitars for 50 years now. The first time i changed strings (late 70's) i didn't have a tuning winder, and electronic tuners were not quite out yet. All I had was an A440 tuning fork. It took me 5 and a half hours to change and tune up. Now, i can do the whole set in about 15 minutes.

I've got a bit of dead string/buzz 4th-7th fret area on the g,b & e side, mostly on the e string. Fretless guitar, so it isn't fret related. Secondary to that, my tech wasn't really familiar with setting up a fretless, so what should we be looking for?

Found your video just by happenstance, worth the watch! Very interesting and informative, thank you. I bought a MIJ 84 strat, actually had it shipped from Japan to the UK (where I was living at the time) after retuning home from a night of drinking, then brought it back with me to Canada when I returned home to retire. Guitar is amazing to play, craftmanship is evident. I also have a 71 US strat, which is also nice, which I bought in the early 80's, also after a night of drinking whilst playing a show at a biker bash. I'm not a collector, I actually like to play, mostly at home these days. My guitar purchases stopped after I quit drinking, but after watching your video, I guess I made good decisions while inebriated! I assure you, I made some poor choiced while pissed too, have a couple of ex wives to prove! Anyway, I do have a question. How do I know if the MIJ is all original, what things can I check (outside the obvious serial number) to see if I have one of these "gems"? Not looking to sell, but more of an interest thing. Fact is, the grandkids will inherit my guitars, I'll play them till I can't, death or arthritis, whichever comes first. I've done some cursory searches, but you seem well informed about these guitars, so any help you could five me would be greatly appreciated. Again, great video, many thanks!

make the tuner hole parallel with the nut, put string in tight(now you already have 1/4 turn around the post) tighten locking knob and tune up

Im a beginner and I was given a floyd rose guitar as a first guitar and at the beginning it was kinda hard to manage tuning, but after I think about 2-3 hours of tinkering I got it in tune, and it’s very stable once you get it in tune. I have one question, how do I tune a floyd rose to a different tuning, lets say DACGCE? Its hard enough to tune it to standard? Anyone?

Locking tuners on a non-tremolo guitar makes no sense to me. That like putting locking tuners on an acoustic guitar.

Apart from the pickups, much of tone difference comes from the bridge as well as the bolt on being maple.

Weren't the Fender Jaguars *all* 32" originally? In any case, there seemed to be a lot of them around in the 80's onward, before disappearing. I'd happily buy a Squire P/J config at 32", whatever shape, if it was light enough... bad back/multiple surgeries mean I either play 30" or Uke-Bass live... or not at all. High end USA P-Bass has remained in case for 10+ years!
