In my Sampraday it's a bit different as being initiated (diksha) means you are a sant. To be in the Sampraday, you must recieve Guru Mantra from our Acharaya. The great thing about Hinduism is that you dont have to go to temples, recite mantras, read religious books daily or periodically. There is no prescription for Hindus. You do your calling. One can be irreligious and still be a Hindu. Sanatana Dharma is a path of realization. You have complete freedom to decide your path. Hindus are taught these things early in life. That openness and permission to seek also makes them vulnerable to planned conversion by proselytizing religions. I used to think all gods are the same. Once I learned about the exclusivity of Christianity and Islam I closed my mind to those two religions. I can believe 100 paths are ok to reach the lord. But I will not believe any path that claims to be only path.

An important inclusion: If ever anyone initiated into and folowing a particular Sampradhaaya, comes to a state when s/he may want to explore or is called to another Sampradhaaya s/he is free to change Sampradhaayas, or explore the other while stilll remaining in the accepted one, or move out and on . . .. An individual is free to chart and travel her or his own journey. The words and ideas Blasphemy, Apostasy, and such like do not exist in the Dharmic Philosophies.

I wanted to offer that the cover picture of this video features Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami, who is the head of the Kauai Adheenam. He, like many of the monks at the monastery, was born in the West but became initiated by his guru. I think that is likely why this picture was chosen for the video, but I didn't hear it explained. Wonderfully explained. It is necessary to understand Santana Dharma and your channel is doing a great service to this Divine cause. There is very little interest among the so called born Hindus in India, who have little to no understanding what Santana Dharma means. Materialism and pseudo-liberal thought and ideologies have completely taken over their mind. I understand that this is part of evolution for India. However, the west has taken this path but they have not found solace in it. I hope modern Indians instead of blindly embracing the western approaches, learn from west's lesson and take a deeper look at its own civilization and scriptures to find solution to the reason of our existence and goals. The knowledge of Hinduism from Indians is zero comparing to westerners nowadays. I become spell bound the way they explain Srimath Gita n Vethas.. No chance.. Interesting. But I believe that the video revolves around getting initiated as a Sant (hermit) through the _diksha_ , which in itself is pretty hardcore and demands a lot (like changing your name, giving up possessions etc.). There is a similar concept followed in my region- the initiation of a _grihasth_ (householder) into Dharma through the Gurumantra. It's called "seekh" as the guru, through _diksha_ teaches you how to maintain and nurture Dharma while holding on to your material possessions. But you could only be _seekh_ when you're married!

Thanks for sharing this. I do want to challenge the idea that initiation rites does not have a salvation/damnation component. Of course, if a person is getting baptized only to be saved from a mis-guided belief of not being eternally punished, this is not a true understanding of Christian initiation. However, salvation and damnation language as one aspect of initiation does not equal false initiation or impure initiation. It all depends on one's understanding of salvation and damnation. Liberation, starting one's spiritual path and a proper understanding of salvation theology does not need to be mutually exclusive.

sanatan dharma is not a religion , its science. its so vast that it can't be explained or written in a book like bible or quran, thats why we have so many holy books. sanatan dharma is 10000 years old or may be older because its not a religion. its like knowledge from our ancestors. i do not read any of my holy or religious books, nor i visit temple often, still my believe and trust in god is pure, i dont have to give god evidence that i trust in you thats why i came in the temple. god is in every bit of the earth, we have to just respect the environment and meditate to find god, because god is in us also! ✌️
