I stumbled upon your channel only yesterday. Since then I have binge watched your video's. I love your vour video's. My favourite classic is Middlemarch by George Elliot. It covers so many aspects of life. It really is a slice of life. Her insight into people and their relationships is brilliant. I would love to hear what you think of it. I read North and South and Wives and Daughters back to back last year. I loved both, but Wives and daughters is definitely the winner. Squire Hamley is a exceptionally well written character. I understand your critique on A Tale of two cities, but I never the less loved it so much. It was one of my top reads of last year, together with Middlemarch and Don Quixote.

I miss you, Jenny. I am so sorry we will never see the reading journal you would have made. With your creativity and ability to go all in on things, I know it would have been amazing.

She definitely touched my life. It is incomprehensible that such a lovely, talented, charismatic, learned person could have been taken from us in the prime of her life. As she said about Dickens, "I believed everything s/he said even though I knew it wasn't all true. I am truly heartbroken. From Syracuse, New York, I offer her mother, Pam, and her family and friends, my sincerest condolences, as well as thanks for all she contributed to my literary life.

I loved every single page of AToTC! It was the first Dickens novel I read.

I read AToTC last year and loved it very much. Then I read Great Expectations and loved it very much also. Now I wonder if Dickens will be all downhill for me from now on, lol.

Boudica, a failure, has a huge bronze statue in London, where-as, in my opinion, Aethelflaed's image in bronze ought to be in it's place. Boudica sought revenge only. Her people as well as thousands of innocent civilians died for it during, and after, the Ecenian/Trinovantian revolt. Alfred paid off the Scandinavians and Dane Law was initiated, which saw the Viking in control of three parts of the island that was not Welsh or Scottish. It was Aethelflaed and, later, Athelstan who drove out Dane-Law and gave rise to the area of our island known today as England. Ironically, the Normans held Aethelflaed in highest regard, at the time, acknowledging her military and political skills. The Normans also referred to Aethelflaed as 'Queen', instead of 'Daughter, or Wife of the King'. Gaining such respect from Norman rulers and warriors of high order speaks volumes. Misogynistic English Kings were envious of a woman who's deeds eclipsed theirs; imo. Misogyny sucks: from a veteran, so-called, "alpha" male non English, British man.

My 2025 goal, honoring our beloved Jenny, is to read Moby Dick. She has been on my mind for weeks now, no surprise since it’s been a year without her. We love & miss you, Sweet Jenny 🤍 I’ll be thinking of you while reading this 🐋🌊

Rewatching these videos and thinking of Jennifer. I absolutely adored that she was such an eclectic reader, which I can relate to. I’ll be thinking of you Jenny when I read the new Grady Hendrix book and wishing i could hear your always amusing thoughts.

I did not realize that he wrote that in the 12th century. I kindq figured it was in the renaissance. Another thing I'm ignorant about... No problem. More to learn.

Pam: I was not acquainted with your daughter on The Tube while she was with us. I only listened to her videos after the fact. Listening to her speak now is very much a Dickensian experience full of expressed emotion and sadness, but still very much worth the candle. This one I had not seen, but the messages here are so much to point that I had to comment. I am old and have only read a few of Dickens novels, although I've seen many adaptations. But the ones I have completed strangely parallel Jennifer's list, although I DNF'd the other half of Copperfield and finished the wanting and lacking Oliver Twist. I read TOTC for the first time last year and found your daughter's summation very astute. The characters mostly miss or seem off, humor is lacking, and some of the writing is flat. But the story arc is so incredible; the two female characters who duke it out at the end, and the atmosphere of Paris and the rattling tumbrils still live rent free in my head. But like Jennifer, I love Great Expectations. It was the first serious piece of fiction I read in freshman English, it IS the perfect novel, and it made a reader out of me. It was so much a part of the young me and brings back aIl the people I knew then (many now gone) and loved that I relate to this book in a way that is like no other.

If you want to face War and Peace you will have to read first: The Death of Ivan Iich Crime and Punishment The Mother Dead Souls The Idiot The Brothers Karamazov Anna Karenina AND FINALLY WAR AND PEACE ...
I am interested in the Arabian Nights Entertainments edited by Robert Mack. It's the first English translation of the book, based on the French version by Antoine Galland. Do you have it? It's interesting that it's not faithful to the original source but it's certainly the translation that had the most important impact in English literature.
