For me, my school librarian reading to us made books come alive. I loved biyearly book fairs, monthly book orders from Scholastic & DEAR (drop everything & read) times in elementary school. It made reading feel special & built excitement over picking new books. And, we really never have enough plants or books, IMO, far better options than other things, right?!

Fun fact: Let's Go Play at the Adams was inspired by the same case as The Girl Next Door. Although Ketchum wrote closer to the actual case, Johnson's is more fictionalized.
@henrytjernlund28 күн бұрын
@@AWCMCultMovies Actually this seems to be one of those "facts" that get repeated so often that people assume it's true. (illusory truth effect.) Those who have done a deeper dive say that there is no direct evidence that the Sylvia Likens true crime case was a significant inspiration for LGPatA.
@AWCMCultMovies28 күн бұрын
@@henrytjernlund Well, there's no direct evidence about much of anything related to Mendal W. Johnson, even all the stuff about his supposed 3 unpublished works and his two marriages and two kids. It's pretty obvious from the story, though. Unless one of those kids steps up to deny it, I think it's pretty plain on its face.

I'm an old fella who has been lucky enough to have worked in poetry, review writing & literary essays, much of his life. Yes, I know, very fortunate. It was Tolkien who started it all for me. I live in a tiny house with the light of my life (an ex-racer greyhound named Billy-Blue). I adore books, but it's Billy who has saved my life. I empathise with your struggles with depression & anxiety. I am a suicide surviver being treated for PTSD, but Billy has totally transformed my life. Cling to your books & pup. It really is worth sticking around. I also read a lot of fantasy & historical fiction, but poetry is my main passion. I look forward to following your adventures with books.
