Very good job on this one You consistently go outside of the popular trends to bring your audience valuable information. Buuuut... Are there any downgrade paths for these cards? International transaction fees? Odd network-provider differences from their Visa counterparts, since the Chase and C1 competitors are Visa cards, not Mastercards? Other HSBC cards that these synergize with? Things that the lower-tier card can do that the higher-tier card can't do? Special approval rules, such as "5/24"? A sequel video could be great for these cards.
@daniel.sparksСағат бұрын
Thanks! As for downgrade paths, you could likely downgrade the $495 AF card to the $95 AF card with a phone call, though there’s nothing in HSBC’s terms or website confirming this. HSBC cards don’t charge foreign transaction fees. They only have these two personal cards. Also, HSBC doesn’t disclose approval rules like Chase’s 5/24.

@ranktank455 күн бұрын
I definitely understand the hesitation to get into annual fees, but if the credits fit into your lifestyle and you come out ahead, there's no reason to avoid them. I fly roughly 4-6 times a month for work / personal travel, and getting into a Centurion Lounge/Sky Club for a meal and a quiet place to do work or have my kids relax is worth its weight in gold. Add in the other credits that I use (Uber, streaming, Walmart+, FHR, and United Travel Bank), and I'm ahead roughly 1,800 - 2,000 per year. If / when I stop traveling so much, the card is 100% getting canceled, but it fits my lifestyle at the moment. I think this is where people get in trouble with annual fee cards. They adjust their lives to the credits instead of admitting the cards just aren't for them.
@daniel.sparks5 күн бұрын
I literally only have one card with an annual fee and I did the math on camera why it makes sense
@anthonyjames43194 күн бұрын
That comment shows you don’t know much. Things worth having are rarely free. The fee is for the insane value you get. You either win the game or pay for others to play.
@Just_Stevo4 күн бұрын
@@anthonyjames4319 Truth! As long as you get value from the multipliers you're good. I don't care about credits. If the fee isn't covered by multipliers I don't get the card.

This card was the KEY to rebuilding my credit, and they gave me a chance without me having to go get a secured card. So, 2 years later and I started with this card at a 665 score and now I'm at an 825 with a pretty solid profile. The key to this card is that they guarantee your approval and starting limit without a hard pull, than if you freeze your report after the pre approval than you snag it with NO hard inquiry. I am with you tho, much better cards out there.

It’s wild to me that BNPL does not require a credit check but a credit card does even though they are similar in nature. Hell, it’s so easy to get, you can put the BNPL on a credit card too, loaning your credit line to make the loan Squared 🤯

With interest rates going down, and a lot of the more profitable credit card customers already having too much credit card debt, I think the big banks are going to not be very active with credit cards. They should be focusing on mortgage and auto refinancing instead. One thing I think might happen is SoFi trying to move further into the sub-prime space, and will try to become a bigger player in the game.

My prediction for 2025 is the rise of the NAF cards. I won’t be adding any cards to my wallet in 2025. As a matter of fact, I plan to start downgrading and canceling cards in 2025. I hope to get to 100% NAF by 2026 if possible. Hopefully Chase does get the Apple Card and makes it a Visa. That would vastly simplify my setup.
@stephenb33488 күн бұрын
This is somewhat of a sleeper card in that it has some Shop Your Way tendencies, both cards being issued by Citi Retail Services, with stackable targeted offers and a fairly consistent 5% quarterly pick-your-category bonus offer on spending outside of Best Buy. Example: Q4 2024, 5% back on utilities, + $10 back when you spend $100 outside Best Buy from Dec 11-17 (cardholder appreciation offer), + $40 back when you spend $750 outside Best Buy from Nov 15-Dec 31 (targeted offer I received). With $750 in utilities spend and proper timing, that's ($37.50+$10+$40)/$750 = 11.67% back. But unfortunately the cashback is in the form of Best Buy rewards, which is the big drawback here. You can opt for other branded gift cards, but points are typically devalued by 50% if you do that. Exception being this holiday season, they've put some other GCs on sale until 01/01/2025, but points still don't go as far as if you redeem for BB rewards. A couple of other benefits for diehard Best Buy shoppers that aren't immediately obvious. Being a cardholder is currently the only way to bank points (no expiration) within the Best Buy rewards system. Also there are typically multiple week-long offers for 10% back on Best Buy purchases of up to $250 throughout the year.

The platinum sucks. What they need to do is make the base multiplier 2x and keep the annual fee. People are jumping ship for the Venture X and increasing the annual fee and adding more coupons is going to be bad for business.

One of the ironic things to me about the Platinum card is that it's supposed to be this card you want to show off, but due to the paltry 1x multiplier, it's trash for regular spending. Really no reason to even keep it in your wallet.
