What a skewed understanding of history. Ill talk about Germany as to not overwhelm youtube - but i might have to censor some stuff. So - lets start with the wonderful "free speech" in the Republic. Its was violence. Yes yes, in this "free democratic country" - you could freely beat up a person who thought differently than yourself. This caused obviously the ideologies with the best street gangs to be the most popular - commies and NSDAP were the most successful, while the socialists splintered. For those that dont understand what im writing here - this was free speech at the cost of private property and bodily autonomy - which skewes the number when it comes to these thing. Now your other point "these countries started by illiberal means" - i find it odd that the rest of your channel glorifies catholic use of violence to enforce its ideology on others (crusades come to mind) while preaching love thee neighbor - and yet when Liberalism does the same, all of a sudden the standards get higher. And before anyone tells me "oh but Jerusalem and Spain were Christian lands!!!!" Yeah, and Germany, Japan and Italy were all liberal before the war - as the video states itself, they all were elected their leaders. Italian man claimed he was the third way between liberalism and Communism - and Moustache man was basically a commie. You also leave out the whole appeasement that the west was trying to do even before moustache man got elected, just to avoid another war. Is it hypocritical that a globalist ideology, that has the same outcome as as the one above, doesn't get squashed? Sure. But blame it on the fact that they have better marketing, not liberalism. Lastly - youll notice that the following countries have a specific word in their respective offical name: The German Federal Republic The Japanese Constitutional Monarchy The Italian Republic Namely - republic and constitution. Its an important note, because first and foremost, these countries are guided by laws - the will of the people is great and all, but only as its expressed through the system - that means that of you reeeeeeeeelly want to abolish the second amendment (in the US) you are going to have to convince 2/3 of the population to abolish it, which isnt very democratic. Same goes for Germany and its laws.

When Rospeirre & his Parisians took a city in the revolution that didn’t accept the revolution, the psychopath Rospeirre had all the people from the city dragged out into the fields & executed by having them roped up in mobs of 200 & then had cannons fire into the mops one at a time, so people in the later mobs saw what was going to happen to them. Robspeirre & his cronies couldn’t stop laughing, seeing these people blown apart by cannon fire. The massacres took days.

I like how this video portrays Franco’s propaganda speech like it is a fact. Actually, the Republican government were hesitant to arm the workers even when the coup began, far from Franco’s claims that they encouraged revolts. In addition, revolutionary strikes were often put down brutally by the Civil Guards and Army even prior to the war. There were no foreign governments involved in the Republican side until after the war began. In contrast, Franco was already getting support from Hitler before he made that speech. It’s also incredibly hypocritical that he is accusing other people of revolting when he is the one revolting. This was doublethink at its finest and is an often used claim of fascists: We have to do an insurrection because if we don’t then (name a group) will. We are pro-law and order except to maintain the law and order, we have to partake in lawless and disorderly acts.

Doesn’t justify the murdering the Christians did against Jews while travelling to the Middle East and the slaughter of the inhabitants of Jerusalem once they took it. Countering Muslim atrocities with Christian ones doesn’t make anything better. I doubt Jesus would have appreciated those actions done by the crusaders.

Yes and no period while I do agree that the Muslims were bad during the first and second Crusades they weren't nearly as bad as the Christians were for the rest of them. If my memory serves me right then I'm pretty sure during The Fourth Crusade the Christian sacked Constantinople and during the third one Richard the lionheart murdered hundreds of Muslim prisoners when he made a deal with salahadeen that would get the Christians 2000 gold dinars and the true cross that Jesus was crucified on all Richard had to do was release the prisoners but Richard turned around and murdered the prisoners when he already agreed to the deal.

That's not true. Christians on their way to free the holy land during the First Crusade murdered thousands of other Christians when they were in Europe looting and murdering Christians priests and Jews believing that they would be forgiven once they fought the muslims. And this guy feels to admit that the Pope just made of a bunch of BS to unite the Christians against the Muslims because they kept on fighting each other just like how Hitler United the Germans to fight the jews.

Whenever I see people condemn crusades as something barbaric, I just have to facepalm hard. Crusades were an incredibly major undertaking for the Europe. People never do such big and risky things just for the sake of it. People always fought wars out of fear of what would happen if they would leave the things progress as they were up to that point. That is a very universal concept, and applies both to ancient and modern wars alike. The scale of crusades shows that the Europe as whole was pretty damn scared and desperate. So, someone, or something, must have given them a pretty big pile of reasons to be scared. You don't stop your personal wars and feuds and send troops into very foreign land from where they are unlikely to return just because "you can and the pope says that god wills it". Even back then people needed usually far better reasons than that.

To me Attack on Titan is about humanity and its doom of endless wars. Because of myths written by the victors and because of sense of justice burned into our veins. No matter what shape humanity takes, war never changes. The irony of most of the comments here is that by being overly proud of your own race makes you no better than "them", the ones who despice your race.

I am from Ukraine and this anime hits different when you realize how hard it is to keep being human after seeing deaths and destruction caused by your enemies. The amount of innocent yet good people taken by them... Unstoppable sense of injustice fulfills you. You stop seeing your enemies as humans. You don't believe that anyone sane could wish for someone of their kind such fate. And this is where parallel with Attack on Titan happens... Because having so much hate towards your enemies, you start to wish they would feel your pain. You start to feel like they would deserve it, contrary to innocent civillians killed by them. That is when it becomes hard to stay being innocent... Just like when Eren was looking for justice in such radical way. To clear things out: Opposite to what Eldia has done to the world in AoT, Ukraine or Ukrainians never did anything as horrible to russians as russian federation is doing now. Nothing justifies its invasion and full on genocide of Ukrainian people, even though just like Marleyans are trying to justify their hatred towards Eldians by calling them devils, russia is using propaganda to make it seem like Ukrainians deserve losing their homes, families and lives. Nobody deserves that. I wouldn't want Ukraine to do the same to Russia. I don't want Ukraine to become Russia in any way shape or form.

Jesus also said don't force your religion on others. But that is what the Portuguese and Spaniards did when they went to the new world and destroyed the local religions and their cultures. Also although the French ended the piracy after their conquest of Algeria they could have left or helped build up the local population so they didn't have to pirate. Rather the French became Pirates and exploited the lands of North Africa. In addition the Pirates were a fraction of the population. Not all of the Algerians supported the pirates yet all of them were exploited because of it. Also yes the natives of Mexico and the Aztecs were not the most humanin people. However the slavery and destruction the Spanish brought to Mexico does not excuse the atrocities that the Spaniards performed. They were savages and caused mass deaths and genocides. The Nazis were not good people because they fought the British and France who had also committed atrocities. European colonisation ended the human sacrifice practices through war and death. Probably brought more deaths than if the human sacrifices were naturally removed from their religion through the local population. You adore demonising the reformation but that ended many of the Catholic's disgusting practise such as burning people at the stake for being so called 'heretics' and removing large amounts of corruption such as Pluralism and Indulgences. And then what happened to their coalition of 200,000 natives after the Aztecs were destroyed? They were turned on and beaten into submission until they became Spanish colonies. Also your slavery point ignores the slavery the Europeans had compared to the other worlds. Yes Other nations had slavery through the world. However no other continent or nation like Europe created the trans-Atlantic slave trade. A slave trade that was so much more barbaric and revolting compared to all other slave trades which saw millions upon millions of lives ruined and forced into some of the worst conditions all in the name of making sugar for tea and tobacco to smoke. And the reason it is still discussed is because the effects of the slave trade effect many nations today and made many European countries what they were to day. The very idea of racism was born out of colonisation and the slave trade by the European's the justify what they did to the native populations. Europe as you stated was incredibly rich and did not need slavery but rather could have just bought the goods from the local populations. However rather than that we decided to use slavery to make even more bloody money. Africans were not seen as the 'best workers' for slaves. They were just seen as less than white and cheap labour. (However thank you for saying you don't agree with this single point). Also being the first to abolish slavery isn't really a positive. It just showed we eventually gained a conscience after realising what we had done. With the Serra person. Giving up a comfortable life to force your religion on natives isn't a good thing. The technology would have spread anyway like it has always done in history. And he still abused native Americans and women as California said he did. That is why his statue got removed. Not to be a scape goat but because he was a bad man. Also 'secular liberalism' isn't gay people dude. Gay people just want rights. Let us live our lifes in peace please. (I don't know about the mass graves so won't comment on the subject). The reason why colonisation is absolutely disgusting by the Europeans is because we didn't take one, not two but three entire continents (North, South America and Africa) Under our rule because we believe the 'white race was superior' and wanted to make money. This led to many many genocides such as the Namibian one by Germany in the early 1900s when the colonised people dared to resist the German invaders. The positives such as trade routes only gave positives to the standards of living of the colonisers not the colonised. In addition again I will restate that all technology always spreads. China and Japan were never colonised but eventually gained the technology Europe has. Ending warfare isn't a positive of colonisation isn't a positive. Europe didn't end it's wars after we colonised we still had wars. And the reason there were few rebellions is because no slaves were kept strong enough to rebel but were fed tiny amounts of food barley enough to survive. Catholic ministries did treat the colonised as sub-human. They ignored their own cultures and religions and forced Catholism on the New World. It doesn't matter if they thought it was the correct thing to do. It was not the correct thing to do. Colonisation brings death and destruction to wherever it goes. Look to Palestine for an example (free Palestine btw).

Very interesting seeing the reformation explained very elequently from a Catholic perspective. I'm always drawn to the opinion Jesus himself expressed towards the established church of his day. It's clear to me that any organisation can never save anyone. Catholic or Protestant! When Jesus proclaimed that He was the Way, The Truth and the Life he didn't add, "and don't forget to join an established church organisation". I thank God he didn't. x

This clip disappointed me. There is a disturbing bias evident in the narrative, which mischaracterizes only non-Catholic sects as intolerant, as if the Catholic church itself was a model of understanding. Anabaptists were the forerunners of Mennonites, Amish and other pacifistic separatist groups - hardly the violent berserkers depicted in this clip. Finally, the clip ignores the very real schism that separated the Catholic church from the Eastern churches, acting as if the only rift was the Protestant Reformation. The author obviously has a knowledge of history; it's sad that this knowledge was not employed to explain this period a more neutral, accurate way. By the end, antisemitism and conspiracy take over as the narrator makes US "liberalism" appear bad (because no religion controls the government) and lays the blame on tolerance of Judaism and the infiltration of Freemasonry. Never mind that the US was founded on enlightenment principles embodied in Masonic teachings and that many Founders based our government on what they practiced as Masons. If I were grading this, I would give it A for effort and F for accuracy (due primarily to its prejudice).

Today both Afghanistan and Iran are conducting “inquisitions”, investigations to root out heresy. I can’t imagine anyone in the West calling these Moslem inquisitions as “awesome”, so, I don’t see how the Spanish Inquisition was “awesome”. That said, religions slowly change over time. Centuries ago, most people believed that their religion was the one true faith and no one else will be saved, which lead to human rights abuses. In a pluralistic society, this egocentric belief system simply does not work. For instance, in the US the Christian far right is attempting to force everyone else to abide by their moral code.
