so char and dolly varden are about the same thing. we call them either name in alaska... the dollys are more resident and the arctic char more andronymous. but then again whats a sea run dolly varden..lol also char need moving water to spawn do these lakes have an inlet or outlet?
@TheMasterCaster18 күн бұрын
Arctic char and Dolly Varden are both char but separate species. Very closely related. It’s interesting though, char actually can spawn in lakes. Lake trout and brook trout do it, and so do these pond char. There are some tiny streams that dump in but these fish will spawn up in the shallow gravel.

? I haven’t deleted any comments. It was also hooked inside the mouth and came out in the net when I released tension. This happens all the time while fly fishing. If it *was* flossed I really don’t care because I didn’t do it intentionally and I released the fish anyway.

I can possibly tell you why I broke if that was a fluorocarbon leader and if you had it hooked onto the real where the fluorocarbon would be bent over the tip of the rod because fluorocarbon is brittle when bent or kinked it eventually makes fragile braking point. I bet if you were to put that line break to break it would match the distance tip to reel.
@TheMasterCaster23 күн бұрын
Interesting! That could be a good explanation.

@@TheMasterCaster was it a fluorocarbon leader? Also if you keep your rod in the back of a truck and leaning out the tailgate the same type of fluorocarbon breaks. I had a buddy switch from high-end mono to high end fluro fishing big swimbaits and he kept having random breaks. That's what it was. @TheMasterCasterАй бұрын
depends what you mean by old. If by old you mean “regular old rainbow trout”, you’re correct. There are definitely different strains of rainbows and there’s a few that are generally the famous steelhead but genetic work shows that any rainbow trout can and will run to the ocean if it wants. Stocked rainbow trout get caught in the saltwater of NJ, NY, and New England sometimes.
