It's a fair question, and one that as far as I'm aware, Ford has not given any indication that they want to go there. But it's really all a matter of programming if they felt there was sufficient demand for it. The Dodge Charger Scat Pack seems to be the closest thing at the moment according to what we've seen so far. And there are obviously far more powerful EVs than the Plaid (see Rimac) but priced as a hypercar and not a daily driver.

I found a great lease deal for a Ford Lightning in July. I am extremely satisfied and plan on purchasing the vehicle at the end of the lease. I will save close to $3000 per year on fueling costs. The one drawback of having to stop and charge on a trip for maybe half an hour isn't really much of a negative. The average driver spends about 10 hours a year fueling their gasoline vehicle at a gas station, whether on a trip or in their town. I just plug into a charger in my garage. I may spend a few hours a year charging on road trips. So the EV actually much more convenient. Also, I never need an oil change, a transmission flush, a radiator flush, any exhaust work. No o2 sensors. No tune ups. No air filters. That will save me thousands over the years as well. I did research on EV nattery longevity and I should get 250,000 miles or more out of it. If a cell in the battery goes bad, it will reduce range and cost a fraction of the cost of a whole new battery. And the rise is much smoother and it handles better than my old truck, given lower center of gravity with the battery under the frame of the vehicle. I'm in my 60s. Given how much I drive per year, this may be the last vehicle I ever buy.

The Novak report is interesting for a few things. Only 7% of the members responded to the survey. Although ca. 23000 is a big number its statistically insignificant. It appears to have been forgotten that the report is rather like a report from the Church of the Already Converted. Assuming that some EV buyers have some degree of intelligence, they have bought an EV with some consideration for what the EV offers versus their usage profile. Thus, ideally, the acceptance rate should be 100%, but as I said a 7% return on the survey is worthless. Look at it from the converse. Many people who have not purchased an EV have done so because it does not meet their usage profile and until the EVs do so, they will not buy one voluntarily - until a shit government forces them to. The report fails to look at the government mismanagement of the EV picture. EVs will not save the planet from the Climate Change crisis - their contribution to the problem is too small. The mandating of no new ICEs from 20XX has been taken with no regard to the infrastructure, technological progress of EVs, dangers they pose or the requirements of the users versus what the EV offers. In short - the report is not much use at all.
@TheNovakReport6 күн бұрын
I disagree. Random sampling often deals with smaller sample sizes to net survey results that are considered to be statistically accurate. Many online or phone polls will speak to only 1,000 respondents within a much larger sampling area and still consider the results to be statistically accurate within a small margin of error. The survey is absolutely intended to speak to those who have already made the decision. Call it an exit poll if you will. For it would be more relevant for someone who is currently driving an EV to comment on the experience than it would be for someone with an opinion on EVs but no actually ownership. It's no different than turning to a F-150 forum or a Yamaha Snowmobile club to get their take on the experience of ownership. And psychologists will tell you that when given the chance to voice an opinion, people are far, far more likely to voice complaints than compliments. So one would naturally expect there to be more criticism of the experience, especially in light of the still evolving ecosystem, and yet, that's not what appears. The 336,000 figure represents the total sum of all members in all associations under the GEVA umbrella. It does not, nor ever would be considered an indication of active involvement. To suggest this is a poor sample size using this rationale would not pass objective scrutiny, for it falls more on pre-determined bias than it does reliability. I won't go into your non-relevant other arguments, for they are rooted in political or ideological bias than any factual evidence. Your dislike of EVs is clear, but that doesn't mean the information provided is incorrect or irrelevant. It just means you don't like what it indicates. Thanks for the comment.

@@TheNovakReport Thank you for your reply. Your first paragraph is utter nonsense. Nobody takes any notice of ridiculously small sample sizes whether they think their margin of error is small or not. Neither do actuarial mathematicians. Exit polls are notoriously unreliable, even when they say they are accurate. Your second paragraph fails to address my point and it fails to support the opening statement of the video. Nobody should care what the already converted think. Non EV users need to think for themselves. If the EV doesn't fit the use profile don't buy one. Duh! Your penultimate para is yet more garbage. The numbers given are taken from government websites and maths applied. At no point did I say your information was wrong, so stop straw manning. Your conclusion that I am anti EV is flawed and unsupported. EVs are good at certain things and poor at others. They should not be forced upon the population by governments until they are fit for purpose in all respects. That is not political or ideological bias if effing common sense. PS Dont start a paragraph or even a sentence with "And". "And" is a conjunctive adverb and has no place at the beginning of a paragraph or sentence.

Used EVs are increasingly common and they have a much lower cost of ownership compared to gas. Batteries are lasting much longer than originally predicted also. @@TheNovakReport Of course there are used EVs, 40 million have been produced in the last 20 years and they are cheap coz they depreciate quicker than a falling stone, which means some poor tw@t has had to suffer that from new. The much lower cost of ownership is a glib statement. It depends on what you compare it to. You know what the factors are, but you are just vomiting the mantra. It would take 2,000,000Kms for an EV to break even with my car. More conservative comparisons with larger ICE produce break even points at 130,000-300,000Kms.

That's the funny thing about technology...when it gets better, it also becomes cheaper. That's also why renewable energy will surpass fossil fuels because it's already cheaper to generate in many parts of the world compared to oil and gas. Third world you say? Renewable energy has the greatest potential to change the third world because due to micro grid technology it can leapfrog over traditional grid infrastructure. Go online for yourself and see how many villages in sub-Saharan Africa or in the South Pacific have electricity because of solar panels built on straw hut roof tops. Go see how school children in Sierra Leone are connected to the internet thanks to laptops that run on small solar sheets and the village has wind power to run it's internet. Toyota hybrids (non plug in) are a step in the right direction over just pure EVs as they use far safer batteries. You're never going to get rid of the ICE. You also need to travel 100k miles just to offset the pollution that making an EV causes when compared to a ICE car.

@NoOne56488 sales of EVs are not tanking, such as what certain ideologues would want you to believe. Actual new vehicle registrations in Canada, the US and in many other countries continue to break historic new levels. Again, this is according to actual vehicle registrations. Hybrids have been around for over 20 years. The internal combustion engine for over a century, yet both remain far less efficient at energy conversion than battery electric. And you are incorrect about how long it takes for an EV to exceed a gas vehicle in terms of a lower footprint. Your data is way out of date as new EVs are made with far less footprints and the next EVs will be even better. EVs have made more advancements in 15 years than ICE have made in over 100 years. And no, ICE vehicles won't disappear. But the ICE ecosystem necessary to exist will continue to shrink and devolve, to the point where ICE vehicles will be relegated to the laggards and the hobbyists, but not much else. Change is always hard, but it's harder for some more than others and this change, which is inevitable and already passed the Tipping Point will be no different.

$24K is the price for the base model Essential trim, but that isn't comparable to the features offered in the 500e. To be comparable, you're looking at the Ultimate trim and it's $28,200 price instead. So the gap is more like $9,500 instead of the almost $14,000 as you suggest. According to NRCan their estimated annual fuel cost for a Venue is $2,175, while the estimate annual energy costs for a 500e is $608 or savings of $1,567 per year. Estimates for basic annual maintenance for a Venue start at $197 in year 1 up to $737 in year 5. For a 500e those figures go from $63 to $376. EVs also have other benefits such as the ability to drive in HOV lanes even with one occupant - a big savings in time depending on where you live and how much you drive. This isn't to make a case one way or another. It's only to point out that when total cost of ownership is determined the roughly $9,500 gap in purchase price gets whittled away a lot more than you think, and the price gap is far closer overall.

Very good review. I currently own a manually-equipped 2018 500c and I love the go-kart-like driving experience. I would wholeheartedly pull the trigger on an electric convertible or Abarth if those models became available. Unfortunately, small cars have a dismal sales history in North America and I'm not convinced Fiat will bring those special models over. That's a shame because the I think the secret sauce lies in its fun potential. Used EV's will address the market for affordable, efficient cars. The 500 should stand apart from the competition by making them objects of desire rather than objects of necessity. The current "Inspired By" series is a step in the right direction, but the convertible and Abarth are essential to that goal. People will free up disposable income on a purposeful fun machine. Utility advantages are fine, but not unique. Most EV's don't offer wind-on-the-hair fun, tossible size or iconic styling. This thing is a puppy on four wheels! Let's get the electric 500 to deliver the automotive version of the zoomies. 🙂

Thanks for your comment, and I generally agree with what you said. The 500e Abarth that I've heard about adds about 60 hp and I'm sure is more fun than this unit I drove. But I think if they really wanted to, they could get something over 200 hp and that would be fun, given it's small size and weight. There are more micro EVs coming to North America. The Kia EV3 and the Vinfast VF3 are two that quickly come to mind. I don't know if we'll see many performance micro EVs at first, but there definitely is a "fun-factor" potential that would be tempting for many if peppier variants are offered.

I like the technology off the cybertruck but I feel like the design is holding it back. I love the styling off the fiat but it's a bit too expensive. Generally I like smaller cars more, especially for the narrow streets here in Italy

I'm not driving any car that requires me to place a card on the console

It doesn't require it if you have the FOB instead.

Would have liked to see a control comparison with the stained towel. A wash with just water and no detergent and a wash with conventional powder or liquid detergent. Always need a control.

I literally would buy one if they weren’t so dang expensive.

Thanks, Eric. What a great comparison, hilarious. Beast mode is wicked fast, but chill mode you almost had him. A fun comparison because you could, thank you very much. Looking forward to your next video.

So apparently this monstrosity didn't meet the Canadian regulations and Elon bribed the government to get this on our roads. It's already been in several serious accidents.

The issue with regulations had to do with the Steer-by-wire technology and a rule that admittedly I had no idea existed. It seems that steering wheels in Canada have to be able to turn 270 degrees in a rotation, which the Cybertruck doesn't. But having now experienced the drive-by-wire system, it's not a safety issue at all, but one of getting used to. With 4 wheel steering the turning radius of the truck is remarkably small and the wheel only turns a bit beyond 90 degrees (if I recall). But it's no different in some respects to one getting used to a different placement of certain controls, or going from a console with many buttons to one with primarily touchscreen controls. As someone who needs to get used to new controls every week, I don't see the steer by wire accommodation as a big deal. It took me about 10 minutes to get used to the way this thing steers.

Interesting complaint in recent days that in our winter, the recessed headlights simply fill in with snow. An engineered solution should be pretty easy, but for now, it's a PITA.
