Just got dragged into Soul Eater because my fellow Murder Drones loving friend and I were looking through the manga section at our local bookstore and she commented about how the colors on the cover reminded her of it. This is a full on hyperfixation now, I just binge watched 10 episodes while drawing Maka and Soul because the show managed to drag me out of my art block. This thing is gonna be stuck as my whole personality for the next few months... or years... Also Soul and Maka are so silly they're some of my most favorite characters of all time at this point-

The fanservice on apothecary dairies, is the chibi cat version of maomao and chibi jinshis. Kind of like how in Ascendance of a bookworm, the fans love when MC goes Gremlin and is just a problem.

Apothecary Diaries handles itself in a way that I'd argue there's no fan service. The plot revolves around them being exploited but the show never exploitative. There are pretty people, but the show doesn't feel like it's trying to turn you on. Sorta like the Armstrong thing the show wants you to know they are canonically beautiful. Then again I am a man and I don't know what Jinshi does to women outside of the show.

Honestly, I never really thought about it, but Soul Eater is AMAZING. I truly feel like the mangaka peaked with his character designs and creations in this series. Every character is interesting and serves a purpose in developing others. That said, I’ve never been able to finish the manga, even though I constantly rewatch the anime. I would absolutely love to see it get a 'Brotherhood'-style remake, especially since I genuinely thought they were heading in that direction after hinting that Fire Force was a prequel. The only thing I worry about if they ever remade it, the anime would lose the soul that the 2000's gave it and the openers were just amazing, I don't think they could ever top the soundtracks.

I don't get why so many people are to stupid to understand that Avatar is NOT a Anime no western animation show is! To be a Anime it needs to be made from a Japanese studio, Anime=Japanese Animation. And for the ret@rds who argue about Japanese people calling all animation ,,anime,, its their language of course they call Avatar a anime in the same way a english speaker calls Dragonball a Cartoon, the original language becomes the name of the medium: Japanese - Anime, Manga English - Cartoon, Comic German - Zeichentrick Film/Sendung (film=movie, sendung=tvshow), Buch mit Karikaturen (buch=book, mit=with)

I found ONE PIECE to be pretty good with it’s writing when it comes to the females, without Nami the crew would not be able to move along and progress robins character is literally a huge piece to revealing the ONE PIECE, big mom being an emperor not just having big strong men in those positions. ONE PIECE does it’s females characters justice in my opinion

Shonen is created for teenage boys and that’s the target audience. Of course they will be an objectification of women…just like how men are objectified in shoujo anime, where women are the target audience.

Hmm, I don't like this take. I think your impression of the male gaze is accurate, but your presentation of a concept of female gaze is not related to the male gaze at all. Liking complex characterization is not a gendered concept, so calling it female gaze is inappropriate imo. Sure, the "alpha male" characters are more of a male power fantasy, but there totally are popular male characters that don't represent how men generally like to be perceived and lack real substance. A pair of pretty eyes on a tall twink who's competent enough to be a protector and is either a goofball or a calm stoic as to not be perceived as a threat is extremely shallow: emotional turmoil and room for improvement are a major factors in character complexity and development. It kind of feels like you're making Male Gaze negative and Female Gaze positive
