It’s such a shame that the only time crossings get recognized is when it comes to bad stuff like accidents and stuff. We should really also give the them the recognition for being the amazing works of technological art that they are!

Everything down to the church bells the crossing gates and the whistle is just chilling. I can’t imagine that entire town just woke up to the j class.

2:24 YES! Let's smoke while riding in a tube! That smoke harms no one! 2:34 The obligatory black steward. I shall ignore him. 3:08 And... Action! Same scene: Of course I would get partially undressed in my cabin and then retreat to the bathroom to finish up. I've got four square feet after all! 4:00 Bogey slumming. 4:08 Rochester is back! 4:36 Would like to see this scene fleshed out a bit. 4:54 That IS a clean compact kitchen! I'm certain the chef was happy to work in such a space. 5:16 Rochester is back! And he's unobtrusive! 5:46 The Pleasure Dome Car! Now, remember, this is Whites only. Or so it seems. Informal friendliness! 6:13 Rochester! 6:40 Rochester! 7:03 Yeah puff that ya ex-flapper! 8:07 Rochester! 8:41 Because all Indians wore bejeweled moccasins. 9:07 Well we've seen the peasants. 9:40 No longer unfortunately. 10:31 Dude's like why are you talking to my lady? 11:09 Uh-oh! Mountains! Sorry Donner's but we're going around.

It was enjoyable to view this. Its wholesomeness diverts attention on all of the crappy news in the 21st century, the slanted media coverage, widespread illegal activities without respect to other peoples’ rights and properties. Sad. The past has more to offer than the future.

What year was this filmed and where?? I'm guessing the late '50's to early '60's.
So happy to read a current comment (so many are years' old). I've been listening to this remarkable recording for years..."right on cue" every Christmas Eve. Timeless, and so captivating...

This is a great and enjoyable steam era documentary production dedicated to the Nickel Plate Road , the Nickel Plate Road ( NKP) had an impressive roster of steam power including their Hudson, Mikado and Berkshire type locomotives. The Nickel Plate Road has preserved 6 Berkshires, 1 Hudson type and 3 Mikado type steam engines that still exist today and it's great that NKP preserved a fair amount of steam power for historic public observation for the future.

Very impressive and enjoyable documentary about the tasks of freight shipment operations involving the N&W railroad, this documentary was also impressive for displaying the variety of steam power operating on the N&W railroad system, including the various articulated locomotive classes.

Filmed during the height of Bill Brosnan’s overhaul of the entire railroad. Everything from automated yards to microwave radio transmission and mechanized track gangs. A lot of his ideas/inventions are still in use today.

WRONG. That's NOT recorded off of 611, that's sister 605, because you can tell by the sound of the high-pitched bell when it was arriving at a station. XP
