this has been said a thousand times a thousand different ways but NOTHING gives me the same visceral, reptilian groove that meshuggah does. not even 15 seconds in and the leg is doing 8ths with a nod on the 1 and 4. i CANNOT keep still.

Troy, you should do sol Niger within in its entirety but improvise in your own style.

Hey brother! Can I ask a question. What wood, or combination did you go with for your Floors, and Kick, and also can I ask if you find tuning them, with the fully rounded bearing edges, that you found that your approach in any way is a little different, or maybe took a bit of time to get used to compared to maybe a more standard maple, or birch 45 degree, and thinner drum? The main reason I ask is, because I just got an OG Ref series kit, and I'm finding, after my first rec session with it that I had a bit of trouble when it came to the floor, and kick, but more so the kick. It's hard to explain, but I basically tuned it pretty low, basically wrinkles just out kinda thing, but lugs were even, and the reso maybe a hair higher, and had a couple towels in the botttom, very lightly just touching each head. PS3 Coated on batter, and Emp Coated w/ port hole on Reso, and honestly it sounded okay in the room, but the mic'd sound was just kinda weird, almost like it just lacked attack, and honestly the best way I can describe it was just that it wasn't punchy, defined, and clear, despite having tonnes of low end, and resonance. It wasnt to ringy, or dead sounding, but the transient/attack just sounded farty/boxy lol. Ive recorded lots of drums, and TBH usually kick is one of the easier things for me to get a good sound. The Rack tuned up, and sang like a dream, and the Floor was a bit of a challenge, but not bad. Honestly, the biggest thing I noticed was that when I had the Rack, an Floor individually sounding good by themselves, and also they were tuned pretty low, def at the lowest point they still sang, the floor, and rack didn't sound good together, and then I had a hard time bringing the floor up to where I liked it both alone, and with the rack, but honestly it still worked out great for the track, and was just mostly the kick that was killing me. Just wondering if you had any advice, tips, or knowledge about tuning the kick, or kit in general since it has mahogany, and the baseball bat bearing edges? Like was thinking maybe you've learned something about dialling them in, or something you've discovered about them that's different from other kits you've played? I'm just kinda grasping at straws here with the kick, I spent like 5 hours trying to tune it haha. That said, I know I just need time with it, but just thought Id ask.

can we talk about how sick those ghost notes are in the main riff? for those alone this cover is awesome.
