i was in the right place at the right time as a young PFC Marine rolling into DC in '77 for my first station after Boot and ITR and heard tickets for Zeppelin went on sale in two days. I checked in and found my 1st Sgt. and begged him to give me two days off to go campout to by Zeppelin tickets. He threw me a bone and I got two tickets. Ended up asking a cute Navy Federal Credit Union teller to go with me. What a powerhouse band...you knew you were in the presence of greatness. Thanks for the drum related details. I knew Bonzo was great but didn't know why.

The first 2 albums should be studied by every serious drummer. Listen to his feel and intensity. The old bebop drummers are my favorite, and I can hear the swing in Bill's ride cymbal. I'm late 50s now, have been listening to Sabbath since high school, and always will ! 🥁

I saw Terry and Warren C. in1981-82 here in Seattle at our Paramount Theater with Missing Persons. He set his kit up stage left and to watch him was akin to standing twenty feet in front of Randy Rhoades in the same venue a little earlier in 81. I saw Jeff in the Paramount in 1998. I also saw Jeff & Jan Hammer opening for Rick Derringer and Aerosmith on their Rocks tour in 1977.

Joe English was my friend. We hung out in Tokyo in '79. I was playing music there and Joe did a concert with Alphonso Johnson and a guitarist named Bobby Cochran. I had just met John Lennon and we would talk about the former Beatles. Joe didn't know he was auditioning with Paul. Paul's trombone player Tony Dorsey asked him to come to New Orleans and jam. They played "Lucille" and Paul said "Do you want the gig? Joe said he almost fell off his drum throne. Paul paid him a ton of money and treated him like a Brother. Joe's Wife suffered a terrible car crash and he devoted his life to the Lord and quit the band. I haven't seen him since the early 80's.

Nice points. Yeah, they are phenomenal. A life-changing band for me. Also, nobody talks about how Geezer and Bill formed such a hard-grooving and relentlessly swinging rhythm section. I don't care much for metal played straight. That's how much of an impact Sabbath had on me. Thanks for sharing.

Total agreement. This is a far more primordial version of the shuffle. A camera showing what the feet are doing would been highly appreciated, or at least a transcript. Still, I'm amazed at the relatively low number of views. this video has gathered over the past 10 years. I won't be surprised the day a big name drummer comes along and makes videos with their brand all over your ideas and score huge numbers of views with them..

Bill is the best drummer ever. He wrote songs with the drums. Not just playing along with the guitar bass whatever. Example. Iron Man was regarded by zappa as a masterpiece along with the great classical composition. Listen to what Bill does with the main riff. It's a slow disco beat. 1970. The man knows how to groove. You try to play a normal beat, it fails. I don't even want to hear about Neil peart and rush. Boring. Technical nonsense. Like shred guitar

@@drummersagainstitk You’re not kidding Richard. I jumped ahead of myself with this lesson as I don’t have a remote hi-hat. You’ve convinced me that I want one though. I don’t even have a double bass pedal, and I want one of those too. Isn’t it crowded over on the left side with all those pedals? Would you recommend transitioning to double bass pedal and remote hi-hat simultaneously, or gradually? There’s plenty to practice and master even with my current configuration, which is standard..

Total agreement on all points. The Beatles were OK until Ringo showed up. He was the spark they needed to raise their game to the next level and became great. According to his own commentary, those creative, quirky, distinctive drum fills were largely the result of a left-handed drummer trying to lead with the right hand. Mixing things up with open handed hi-hat drills recently discovered on your channel are having Ringo-like effect on my own creativity, so Thank you!
