I experienced the 'temper-tantrum release' for myself a few months ago through screaming and thrashing to loud music. So much that I teared up. It's comforting to know that this is established as a healing activity. So I'm not crazy...well I'm still crazy, just less so.

Wow, that first example is just like me in every way. I used to go and sleep over a park or in garages some nights to get away from it. I was such an aggressive kid, but as a man, I can be too soft. One of the reasons I back down a lot is because I'm scared of that switch inside me getting flipped and reverting to the violent person I used to be.

Good luck to the guy who asked the question, just know that you are not alone. This is more than dealing with the ego, and just trying to fight the ego without dealing with this curse will not work. As Elliot said the brutal trauma has to be dealt with first. I was hoping for an easy solution, but this is painful....worse than I expected.

I just started watching your videos today and I must say I've learned more about life within these couple of hours than from most of the other people I've known. I've recently turned 18 and I've already been through a lot of the things you've mentioned in your videos. I feel like there's a lot of things you've said that I knew before, but was always uncertain of or was too afraid to believe in. I'm glad I found you today Elliott, because lately I've been getting close to falling into the same holes I've been in before, and I need to man-up, ignore the toxic people in my life, and start being my own person.

I see myself reflected in the case you are talking about. And you know, from my own experience, I started to recover from that trauma when I stopped needing my parents. And that’s happened to me recently. I didn’t take revenge upon them intentionally, cause that will reaffirm their lack of respect for me, and will confirm their attitude. Or even feel deeply sad about that kind of life that fate has chosen for me, cause they wouldn’t even recognize those symptoms and help me. Instead of that, when I separated physically from them I separated also emotionally, and that gave me a greater vision. And the vision was that I don’t really need them. From the emotional distance they looked smaller, even insignificant. I discovered that I didn’t recognize them as my parents, I mean, as my love sources, nor in the past nor today. And that kind of forgetfulness means also death, it is the death of the past, the one that releases you. Thanks.

Elliott is an insightful man. The way he speaks about the things he knows, and the things he knows, show the mark of his experience. And I will say, I owe you big time. You have put into perspective, the things that I've managed to only get scattered glimpses of, at best. And having felt your impact on my life, which I've still got ways to go with, I can see why and what so many men struggle these days with; they lack male role models. They lack a man of your caliber in their lives. Thank you.

In the past couple of weeks i have learned so much about my physiology and how to become a better version of myself, i say better because i'm always shooting for the best version but i know i can never reach it. what's breaking me right now is I remember watching this when it came out, at the time I was working on myself, making progress, lost 20kg fat, for the first time ever had a 6 pack, had money stacking up in the bank, became more confident met a great girl. Then somewhere along the line everything fell apart and now i've just stumbled across this video again. 8 years have disappeared and i'm now further in the shit than when I started.... and this trauma video makes a lot more sense to me now. Every step taken over the past 8 years I have avoided facing my trauma and so every step they've I've taken has ended up slipping right back

I spent 18 months living with chronic elbow pain from an injury that should have resolved in 2 or 3 days. I would avoid carrying even a glass of water as I anticipated severe pain. Eventually I came to the realisation that my problem was psychosomatic, so called 'trauma' or fear. Once I let go of that fear and returned to normal movements, my pain dissipated fast and my strength returned astonishingly fast. Now my ultimate goal is to be the strongest version of myself or to be what Abraham Maslow said : " whatever a man can be, he MUST be". Once you let go of your fears and start moving towards your goals you feel a sense of emotional freedom and belonging, or the feeling of being at home wherever you find yourself.

Awesome talk, as usual. After seeing some video of Helliott, I feel that I know better how works my body and how it is sometimes more important than the mind. It's true...movement is essential. Everything that remains stopped or too much firm will die, especially our body and then our mind. Movement is everything!!

Elliot I am very grateful to have you in this world and your incredible vitalizing knowledge available on KZbin. During this video I felt as if you had the specific key into my mind and you simply opened it and verbalized to me exactly how I feel and also explained why I feel so, and as you were talking, tears came down my eyes as I started to remember forgotten traumatic experiences from my childhood of which smothering effects on my nervous system carried on to this day. I believe there is truth in your wisdom and I am now starting to implement it in my life. You deserve to be heard on TED.

You explained it very well, Elliott. This video is really great. I think this whole problem is mostly based on fear. Fear to stand your ground in front of your parents. You have to get out of the fear you have experienced as a child. Because, as this video revealed, you are still carrying it in yourself.

I actually still live with this trapped trauma in the form of chronic neck tension. I've tried many different things to try to dissolve it, from meditation, hypnosis, psychedelics, yoga, marijuana, exercise, etc, but it doesn't seem to ever go away. Mindfulness meditation probably works best, for it's purpose is to accept and observe the tension without trying to get rid of it.

This really hit the heart. The was a time in my life where it only consisted of "fun" (drugs, alcohol, partying, etc). During a long drug infused weekend, I had a mental break down and raged at someone who I grew up with and saw as an older brother. It seemed as he were saying stuff about me but to this day I still don't know if it was all in my head or reality". Also during that time period, I lost a lot of close friends (still friends but not even close anymore) and ended up in a state of mind where I lost the confidence I once had. To this day it effects me still. I am not as open, I am very introverted and afraid to go out. I can not just "talk" to people anymore. Even though it's been over a decade, I still have dreams (nightmares?) where I try to right those things and the friends just ignore or "do me wrong" in spite of said situations. I need to just learn to let it go. All my friends seem to have great lives now. Families, nice cars and homes while I'm still single, soul searching. I am going to go home and do as Elliot mentioned. Shit, I felt this "aura?" just listening to Elliot talk about this. I can only imagine what actually doing will feel. /random

Elliott I really love the way you share and express things and ideas on here. I'v watched several of your videos over the past half a year or so and have been amazed at the shift in your presentation. I can not help but imagine you expressing your self like this to your children. It seems that you have been able to creatively animate your self while talking about ideas and I wonder how much of this is attributed to your children growing older and teaching them more about the world. Particularly the "freeze" part expressions, almost made me feel like a parent was teaching/expressing something for me. Good stuff, Keep up the good work

This was your best video Elliot. I was in tears watching it as I recognized what you were saying in myself. Going to try that temper tantrum thing when I get home.

I'm sure I'm not the only though guy here who cried while revisiting his life as Elliot was speaking, wishing he had this knowledge 10 years ago. This video will help free even more people. Elliot sacred mission is to help free as much people as possible and he is snowballing it hard right now. Thank you Elliot for being the strongest version of yourself. Done.

ELLIOTT!!! I cannot thank you enough for merely being yourself! The info you share is very unique and relevant to very particular type of person. I think you probably appeal to many different kinds of people for many different reasons. But putting it simply, you are a KING omg keep uploading! I will likely write in to you in the near future for my particular problem. Thank you again. 👊

Wow...this story is much like my own, except my dad threatened to shoot us kids in the head each night and then would go make the bullets and show them to us. I was in the middle of every one of my parents fights when my dad would beat her until she was unconscious or bleeding. I worked very hard and with alot of therapy to acquire true confidence and value without external validation. My siblings and mother developed split personality disorders. It has been quite a journey. My parents are still married after 56 years, I am 51 and had a bad fall in June and tore all the tendons and ligaments in my left ankle. I was unable to work and out of money and had to move into my parents home. WOW>. They are crazier and louder and more violent. This has given me an opportunity to heal and work through some very old issues for myself and show myself that I can protect me. This situation has been rife with opportunities to meditate in a war zone. I would love to speak to you Elliott. Blessings to you.

@Braulio N'dre bro I feel you I have almost been going through the same as you have but as someone said in the comments we must see that as an opportunity to fight and grow in a war zone and we must embrace it, yes it is going to be tough but isn't it what makes us MAN. In the recent videos of big brother Elliot he says, as a man running after the happiness and pleasures is not our duty, it is just an endless circle that is not gonna add any real value to you at the end of the day, man has to accept and embrace the struggle he is going through and he has to fight with it no matter what kind of big wounds it will mark on you. We must sacrifice and fight to become REAL MAN. If someone told me the things that I have just written here 1 year ago, my ego and coward mind would not like to believe and acknowledge it but now I see things after many times of trying to escape the reality of hard times. This is a man's world and I now understand the value of going through these hard times. I am 24, from Turkey. I just wanted to share my sincere thoughts, I might have used English not in a native would have used but we are in this together and I believe whoever goes through the similar thing as mine will find something from it for themselves and understand me. Done!

I was just gonna type you forgot about freeze as many people do. And being depressed, not having the energy to do the dishes, even take a shower etc that some people experience is aways connected to that freeze response. And you are also right that this is caused by trauma. These people need to learn how to become a monster like Dr Peterson discribes it

Great channel! I may not be okay with every single argument that you have, but most of them make sense, and the way you speak is french and direct. I almost forget about the screen I look through. Great job!

This is very helpful for me, with severe Complex PTSD. May I recommend adding something like "understanding trauma and the "freeze" response" to the title. Or maybe doing another video? Thank you so much for the insight. I may not have balls, but I find your videos incredibly helpful. :)

Iam an even bigger sadder version than this guy and I feel like elliot gave the advice that ive wished my entire life someone, particularly a father figure of some sort since I had never had one, would have given me. I dont think he said anything I didn't already know myself but the fact that "someone" really understands how you feel enough to give such insite and that he cares enough to do so released alot inside me. I broke down crying when I first watched this ealier the moment I realized that well "there it is" and that its not going to be my father or some magic man in my own life that's going to be the one to direct this personally at myself. Its very sad but very empowering at the same time

I've been the same when I was 18. Same childhood when I was wishing for my familly problems: "I just wish this to come to an end and everything be all right." The problem is that he has got no refferences in life which are important when he grows up. And now he need to recover them (these beliefs) and comes very hard, and takes huge effort to change. This is what I did... I'm 24 now and used the bad things as a leverage to change. KZbin has lots of answers and the good books as well. He needs to go fast and will become stronger, because he had deeper experiences than others. If he is not going to solve this, they will destroy his future very very easy.
