I used to cut the biscuits into quarters , fry and drain them and put sugar and cinnamon in a brown lunch bag. Gave my children each a bag and had them shake the bag. They love it. " Poor Man's Donuts " , that's what we called. Whenever money was tight, those fried pieces of dough made tough times tolerable for my children and me. Even now my adult children still loves and yearns for them.

Oh this brings back so many memories! My mama used to make doughnut biscuits - which I very quickly learned to do for myself - because they were so good! She never got fancy with almond extract or lemon - she just did the basic glaze or usually, just the cinnamon/sugar mixture! But I love them to this day! I am going to try the jelly filled ones next, because I love raspberry-filled jelly donuts! And I will add the powdered sugar glaze!! Thanks so much for this video, as well as the tip for freezing any left-over dough! PS I never measure either LOL

You were talking about the jelly filled donuts. The cake decorating sets usually have a long tube shaped tip that comes with them. You can also use those to fill the donuts and donut holes. For the ones with cinnamon and sugar, you could also use the ready made Philadelphia Cheesecake filling to fill them. Just insert a wooden spoon handle first to make a cavity for the filling, then insert the decorating tip into the cavities so that you can fill them with the cheesecake filling. Then you can do the cinnamon sugar, chocolate icing or regular glaze. They will be as good as any donut shop. For fillings you are as limited as your imagination. Have fun and enjoy your tasty treats.

I use the cap from my milk jug as a donut hole maker in the biscuit. I'm not a big fan of jelly donuts so that won't interest me. I do like the cream filled like the Hostess Twinkie has in it. I just squirt canned Dream Whip into them and it's wonderful. I also just use straight powder sugar mixed with nothing else and put on donuts. I do the glaze ones also and add Orange juice to the powder sugar and make an Orange glaze. Do the same using Strawberry soda pop. If course you can just by cake icings in various flavors at the store. Hershey's makes a great milk chocolate canned icing on the shelf at the store. I use metal tongs to flip my donut concoctions with in the hot oil. That way you are certain to flip them. If you like nuts add crushed ones to your glaze and dip the donuts in them. I'm 72 and been making canned biscuit donuts since I was a child in the 1950s with my mother.

My Foster Mom would do this in the 70's. She took the small biscuit tube and when opened she took a bottle cap to make the hole. Then deep fry them in oil and the donut holes. Didn't drain the oil but put them in a paper lunch bag and shake them with cinnamon and I. For chocolate frosting she took powdered sugar and chocolate syrup to make frosting.

This reminds me of the old days...lol. My mom would make us donuts and the donut holes from biscuits. She used regular biscuit roll, nothing fancy. She used an old glass salt shaker bottle to punch out holes then as I got old enough she would let me do it. She fried them and quickly dumped them into a cinnamon sugar mix. I have made them for my boys when they were little and tried again not too long ago. I will try again with the flakey biscuits, so thank you so much!
