Personally, I think the enforced false civility has a lot to do with why that guy got applauded. Because Ben has used that exact tactic during debates, while bemoaning the lack of civility in politics, and stormed out of interviews asking questions he didn't like. This was the first time (to my knowledge) that Ben has had to deal with being on the receiving end in a format he did not in some way have control over. I am certainly not up to date on the facts of this issue, but just doing some googling, I found out that there are 78.2 million children in the US. Quick math tells us that the above statement translates to "You think 0.3% of children in America are lost?". Nothing in that statement sounds unreasonable to me. I was born in Poland, after applying for years we finally got approval to come here legally. We lived in the South side of Chicago for a couple of years while my mom cleaned offices and my dad worked in a meat processing factory. Second, and more to the point that the woman was trying to make in the video is that an Asian who has legally migrated into the United States through a legal process is amazing for how far we've come as a country. You were able to do something lawfully that all Asians were not allowed to do at some point in the past - for decades - simply because it was against the law for any Asian to migrate into the United States. That's a privilege, and a great one. No one is saying you grew up privileged, simply that you had a privilege that other Asians didn't in the past. It wasn't even a question or conversation at the time, it was just the law. No Asians were allowed to enter the United States for any reason during this ban: to work, to live, to travel, to see family - even if they lived in the United States permanently and traveled out of country during this time, they would not be allowed back into the country, period.
