I've got 2 dive watches. Orient Ray II, which has been in the pool (6 inch deep kids pool, but still...), and a Zelos Mako V3 Titanium. The Orient has 200m WR and was $135, and the Zelos has 300m WR, and cost right about $600. SO both near the lower end of the price range, especially the Orient, but the Zelos punches above it's cost class easily.

No Invicta Pro Diver? I'm shocked. Shocked, I say! I'm in IT, and I never have to dive much deeper than under someone's desk when they kick out their ethernet cable. But my favorite dive watch is my Glycine Combat Sub. It's a robust build with 200 meters of water resistance, and it's less than 11mm thick. It looks and feels great, and I got it for under $300.

One watch - the master - Rolex Deepsea Mk1 116660 in the only colour “black” - this earlier edition will be the one to have and will become the one that gains in price over the others . Originals set the trends , hold there value and are the go to pieces in the longer term as like the early submariners and that factored in with that unique smaller bracelet made that watch just a bit special . Well that’s if you can afford one now - because if you can’t now , you definitely won’t in the future , in some places including watchfinder you are seeing this early model prices aligning with the newer model . Great video

Fun video! But, my two cents, if I may? I’ve bought two Submariners and a 1500m Breitling SuperOcean; but mainly because I like them. I’m a diver with numerous certifications, and have dived in many of the world’s oceans and seas. But, I’ve never worn either Sub or my SuperOcean to dive. On dive boats around the world, I’ve seen exactly three fellow divers diving with a Rolex, etc. Many don’t know that Rolex warranties their watches for exactly one year against intrusion from water. Very likely, few would leak in years 2-5, but why take a chance? Nearly every active diver I know dives with a Citizen, Seiko, or G-Shock. They work, and for a long time.

I bought a blue dial seiko 5 diver years ago. I think it is a great watch but i always felt something was missing. The dial had a faux patina and the day and date was too busy for me. I also don’t think a dive watch should have a see through caseback (the movement doesn’t look nice either). This year I snagged the Tudor Pelagos FXD MN21 and i love it. Rugged. Light. The french navy thing is great. The only thing I am not sure about is the velcro strap, I don’t think it will stand the test of time. If you like a rugged tool watch this is it. If you want a versatile diver that can go with a suit in a pinch get a submariner or a black bay 58.

My favorite dive watch I wear constantly is my blue Orient Kano. I just love that watch and as a bigger guy the larger size is perfect. I also wear my Seiko 4rth Gen monster a lot as a fav. Something about the Kano though, it just always ends up on my wrist. If I had the money to spend a few on the short list would be a Sinn U1, a Tudor Black Bay 58 925 silver (I am fascinated with precious mentals) Omega Seamaster with a blue or grey dial… As for Rolex.. I am normally a bit meh about Rolex Subs for some reason but the “Bluesy” two tone is stuck in my head. It is just the right amount of gold with the metal and with somehow that gold actually looking amazing against blue (my favourite colour). It is so beyond my means I would have to win a lottery, but I absolutely love that watch.

No one actually needs a watch rated for more than 100m when the absolute limit for a certified Advanced Open Water Diver is 30m. And professional divers simply don't wear mechanical watches at all. The theoretical limit the human body can possibly withstand is around 500m, so a watch rated at 3900m is strictly a novelty item for landlubbers with more money than brains.

I have 3 extremes of dive watch in my collection. I’m wearing my favourite now, an IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000. Much more affordable is my trusty Seiko 200m automatic, and at the ridiculous level is an old Vostok Amphibian. All have screw down crowns and are more waterproof than really necessary to swim. The Vostok cost a whopping $25 brand new from a street vendor in Kyiv back in 2000, the Seiko was around $200 online, while the IWC was bought from a dealer second hand circa 2007 for $5k. I never take the IWC swimming though lol. Just too expensive to risk damaging even though it has 2000m dive capability. The go-to swimming watch is the Seiko, and it was bought specifically to be a good compromise.

A good dive-watch should have: A depth rating of at least 200m A screw-down crown A unidirectional rotating bezel Bright lume on the hour markers and bezel pip Differently shaped/lumed hours/minutes/seconds hands A strap or bracelet that doesn't degrade in seawater What it doesn't need, but is nice to have: A depth rating beyond 300m A fully lumed bezel A date window A gas escape valve That said, I don't think there's a dive-watch that ticks more boxes than the 116600 Seadweller.

He didn't like fiddley things that required pre-knowledge. He chose intuitive design that was high function. Eco-Drive fills that anti-fiddley niche for me.

The Helios, Longines, Omega, and the Grand Seiko were my favorites from this video! I like divers, but have more than enough and looking at other watch styles now

Perfect list = substitute the seiko 5 with a citizen promaster as a genuine entry level diver and the halios with a seiko marinemaster 300m with a mid level proper diver.

Thank you Andrew, for understanding what utter nonsense the depth ratings are. They are no more or less than the flights or fancy of some desk bound marketing guru. Keep up the good work

Diving watches from Sinn should be one of the best dive watches, at least they are high quality and purposefully built for divers, right?

I’ve owned a Rolex DSSD for over 5yrs. Daily timepiece and yes I do go diving with it but where it can go, no human can. But that adds to the engineering & technological allure of the piece for me and I’ve wanted a Rolex dive watch since I was a kid and now I finally have one. Plus from a practicality point of view, I have large wrists, hands & a body to match and so the Sub, as much as I like it, just looks a bit dainty on me. All that said, I very much like the looks of Seiko in the beginning, from the semi “aged” looking hands to the bracelet. I might have to take a look at one to see if it fits well, but most importantly, plays a bit on my heart strings when I see it on my wrist like the DSSD does
