I just want to say thank you. I'm 16 with severe back pain and shoulder problems, but who also can't follow extremely fast-paced lessons due to dizziness when I stand up too quickly. This is really the first yoga lesson I've gotten all the way through and was able to keep up with. So far, even after just one day, I'm feeling a bit better. Thank you so much!

Great job Beth! Quite a few of these moves could be adapted to be done in a chair or standing - for this one, you could start out standing with your back against a wall, basically replacing the floor with the wall to help you straighten your back. Once we move to seated, you can take those in a chair. I don't think I've got any practices for the upper back that are exclusively seated or standing, but there are certainly some great modifications that can be done for just about every pose, so feel free to ask about any in particular :)

In the very first exercise, he tightness in my shoulders, or perhaps bend of my back, does not allow my hands to reach the floor above my head, or when I bring my elbows out perpendicularly. They remain about 6-8" above the floor. I assume I just continue doing what I can without straining??

That's very common, you're not alone! And yes absolutely, don't strain but rather go to the point where you feel a good stretch and your shoulders allow you to go without forcing anything. You can also try bringing your arms into more of a V shape (rather than straight overhead in an I shape) and you may be able to get closer to her floor that way. Great job!!
