Well now wait a minute. I just went through a terrible terrible IBS condition that kept me in the restroom two days and three nights with sore stomach and get muscles and I also battle chronic insomnia. The first thing I had to do was go on the brat diet which is all white And now I am trying to get my health back with better choices of eating again. I went to a lot of potluck and ate a lot of casseroles with lots of cheese and spices and mini things I probably should not have indulged in as much as I did. Now I am ready to get back on the right track But it is also important to me at my older age of 75 to get back into regular exercising and regular sleep which I haven’t had in about three years. I can use all the help I can get starting with my core.

You cannot target fat with these exercises. You can strengthen abdominals but you can't spot remove fat.

Hello again Cindy! I have trouble with the exercise when you lay on the mat, knees up, & reach for your heel side to side with your head off the mat. Should I put a small pillow under my head to elevate it? My neck doesn't like being off the mat. Thank you!

I just saw another trainer do that. I am not a big fan of it as I think it leaves the cervical spine in an unnatural curve for too long. I liked another trainers take which said for a couple of weeks, simply do one to two on each side It is in the thinking that over time the neck area will strengthen and adapt. If it doesn't (slow and steady) then I would skip it and do a standing option, just reaching down the side of your leg toward your foot.....Good for you taking time to work your core. It is the basis for all movement. Continue to stay strong and healthy!

Yes they do. All exercise needs to be under the supervision of your doctor. For instance, the core exercises in this video may not work for my ladies with neck injuries, or back problems. The human body is a wonder, however, to each person it is individualized, if that makes sense. For instance, I know from my doctors, would cringe if they saw me doing a burpee or jumping off of tires as they do in some high intensity classes. With my arthritis, it would destroy me!! Listen to your body and the advise of your doctor and in my opinion, any exercise that causes pain should not be done. Only a physical therapist in my opinion is knowledgeable enough to know what level of pain is necessary for healing and growth. Whew, thanks for asking!

When we are on our back, how high do I lift my chin? I am Large breasted . so if I lift my chin only 1 inch it only bring me up off the mat and I don't feel anything.

So I had to get on the floor and retry this and you are right! If you do not squeeze your transverse muscle, below your belly button at the same time you lift even less than an inch, you feel no benefits. Try it again tightening and if that doesn't work for you just skip it. Not every exercise works for everyone. There are so many to choose from so just stay consistent on you favorites. How long is this supposed to take? I've been doing your ab workouts, plus cardio and yoga for a month, one each day. I'm not seeing any improvement. I'm careful what I eat, and don't eat processed food, sweets or meat even.

Thanks for asking. It took me 3 months to get rid of my stubborn muffin top. Take and measure your waist and see if there is a difference after three months time. I had to eliminate everything white, flour, sugar, potato chips, etc.. ice cream and sweets or it would go right to my midsection. I also added a ten minute walk, easy pace, after my largest meal to speed up my metabolism When folks get discouraged, I encourage them to keep going as to avoid adding more inches to the waist by giving up. Maintenance is important, too! Good luck and keep me posted.

Thank you for your question. You can just reach along the floor without raising your head and neck off the floor. Even better would be to stand and reach behind toward your heel a minimum of 8 times each side. You can still get the same benefit. If you have had a neck injury, generally it is best to stay away from any crunches on the floor. The standing workout would be the better choice. If it is simply a weak neck, I would make sure my chin is in proper alignment (apple or fist's distance from your chin to your chest. Do not round and tuck the chin as you come up) and start with just a couple of crunches adding a few over time as you notice the neck muscles becoming stronger. Too many exercisers pull on the neck muscles when they crunch up instead of concentrating on using the abdominal wall entirely to lift them up. Are you in any of my classes where I could show you this?

Without being able to watch your form, it is hard to say what went wrong. It could be overuse of muscles, not engaging your ab muscles properly, and more.
