I'm in the process of re-examining my EDC essentials lately, as I've found myself traveling more (ten trips in 2023 including two international), and when I upgraded my phone from my crappy I-phone 7 to an Iphone 14, I found I didn't have a constant need to have a powerbank with me 24/7/365. When I needed a powerbank all the time, my flashlight was a Wurkkos TS21 and I carried The Best USB-C to Lightning cable, the Afterplug. That cable went through the washer and drier a dozen times and still works perfect three years later. So now I'm looking at a smaller light that doesn't have to serve double duty, I'm looking at a new small sling bag for traveling, I'm looking at my last dozen trips and evaluation what was missing and what I haven't needed. It's great to see the suggestions of others and tweak to personal taste.

Pocket knife: BM Freek. SAK Craftsman knife. Opinel 8 Carbone (to not scare people for food cutting). Flashlight: Lumintop AA. Tape measure: cheap little HF 10 foot. Electric lighter. Insulated water bottle (hey, it's Arizona and a BSA principle) : Contigo. 3 Pieces of rope/paracord for knot practice and utility. Bandana. Wristwatch: Timex Expedition. Android Cellphone. Wired ear buds. Yeah, that is 12, sort of, but it is the standard kit. I also have a Kershaw pry tool on the on the key ring, but that is really just keys. I'm in Arizona, so the anti-carjacking tool goes along unless there are too many annoying stores on the route. That's it for my "10" items. I do have a little car bag that holds charger stuff, backup battery and sunglass clip-ons. You might wonder about the tape measure. When I find an interesting knife (e.g. swap meet), it is nice to get good measurements. I may not buy it right away, but will take measurements and go research it. Or just confirm that the measurements match a quick web search. For example, there was this interesting old Cold Steel fixed blade in CarbonV steel. I was thinking maybe Recon Scout. But I took measurements and later confirmed it was a Bush Ranger (the old fixed blade, not the new budget folder - re-used names - aaaargh!). I also tend to have some hardware issues that need solutions. The solutions aren't always obvious, but when I see the item, it is clear it could solve the problem. But I need good measurements to be sure it will fit/work.

For boots, I recommend trying Whites or Nicks boots. Handmade custom boots, starting at $450, they are well worth the price tag. I go thorough boots every 8-12 months. Department store boots didn’t last and once they were done they were donee I liked my red wings but same thing, once they were wore out they were thrown out. With Nicks or Whites, they’re custom made, handmade, all leather and repairable and rebuildable. When they break or wear out, send them in and they rebuild them. Even with soles that I wear out quickly, they’ll repair them as many times as I send them in. Instead of a year long boots, you know have a lifetime boot. Worth every penny.

My 10: 1: A key organiser (i brought an orbitkey bc it fit well with my edc, and now i can't go back.) 2: A mous case (i was susceptible to their good marketing and brought one, then i drop my phone off a rollercoaster and it is fine, so i buy again.) 3: Jeans (ik its not the most practical in all environments, but i almost always wear them when im not at home.) 4: A dog lead (i keep it in my bag, when i get home i can take my dog for a walk right away bc i have it with me, and unfortunately a house near me is a bit irresponsible and leaves their door open and their dog runs away frequently, this helps me return them.) 5: Footwear that doesn't use laces (this can be boots, shoes, or some version of off brand crocs. I used laces for a long time and got bored, so i bought some chelsea boots, they were life changing. I got some off brand crocs that are used constantly for when i need to let my dog out into the garden or if i need to go get something from the shed/garage. I now have some boots that have laces on the front but a quick access zip on the side, these i use every day.) 6: A hard drive (i need to move stuff through different computers alot, and the cloud has made me angry more times than i could count if i had ten hands. Eventually i just got a portable hard drive and it has made everything much better, and the cloud is just used for backups of stuff, and finished projects.) 7: My bag (i had cheap bags for a long time, but they kept breaking so eventually i got a fjallraven backpack, and the difference is night and day.) 8: Earphones (wireless in ear ones. Audio quality isn't that important to me for these, i use them mostly for listening to music while commuting. For when i need good quality i have some wired ones from KBear. I use these when working or if i just want to relax. Any audiophiles will have probably heard of this brand, they're the KS1's.) 9: Hoodies (it is rare i won't be wearing a jumper, especially in winter, but i always get hoodies over any other kind. I use the front pocket for quick storage if i need to put my phone away for a second, and i generally store a pair of gloves in there during winter.) 10: Glasses (i need them to see, and i look odd without them. This one is a very literal answer to what i couldn't live without.)

I carry the Fenix E18R V2 these days as my EDC light. I carry larger lights I carry if I feel I will be somewhere it might be needed, but the E18R has become my day to day carry light. it has a 1, 30, 150, 350, and 1200 lumen modes, is rechargeable, magnetic base, two way lock out belt/hat clip, and is small. You said your fenix lights do not have a moonlight mode. And I agree I want a 1 or 3 lumen low mode, and prefer the 1 lumen option. It is a great EDC light, check it out.

Thanks for the gear ideas, just what I needed, more stuff as a guy that lives out of a suitcase... For boots, I've moved away from traditional models and I have several different barefoot boots. I just never get sore in them like I do with normal boots. I've worn Redwing Hanwag's and others in the past and I won't be getting rid of them, but I pretty much never use them now. I wear either the Lems Boulder Boot (leather version) or the Vivo Barefoot Trackers. Both have a waterproof version but mine are just leather and I love them. Vivo's going strong two years later, Lems are a new addition.

A couple of thoughts. RE: your Iron Rangers hurting you, it could be a fit issue, like too wide, too narrow, or even too long. hard to say. In general though, perfect fit is elusive. I rotate between shoes and boots both to save from excessive wear and second, to save my feet. If I had a tendency to develop a hot spot on one pair of boots and shoes, rotating will give my feet a chance to recover so I don't get a blister. Also, I rotate between harder shoes and boots and softer ones. The harder ones tend to have more support, but they are hard so sometimes my feet take a beating. Softer ones are comfortable out of the box, but over time you lose support. But not if you rotate them. On the subject of shoes, in addition to good boots, dress shoes and sneakers, I also have found a good pair of slip on casual shoes to be essential. And that includes boat shoes and slip on sneakers. It sounds lazy, but sometimes you just need to run outside to get something from your car, or whatever, and you don't want to have to put on socks, and lace up your shoes. RE: hats. In winter I always have a knit hat close at hand because it gets cold here in the Midwest. In summer, good to have a baseball style cap to keep the sun off my face. I like to keep a basic multi tool on my keychain like the Victorinox Manager or mini champ. Not so much on my person but I keep a Victorinox Pioneer and also a tactical pen in a Hitch and Timber leather pocket organizer, in my car. And I keep a couple of Fisher space pens in my briefcase, which I carry with me most of the time during the week. The briefcase isn't one of those fancy leather ones, but an LL Bean nylon bag. Pretty much essential for carrying a tablet or laptop, calendar, pens, business cards, and can even double as an overnight bag if I am really trying to be a minimalist. Sunglasses - I prefer Wayfarer style sunglasses. I bought my last pair at Costco and they have held up about 3, maybe 4 years. For biking, I go with Tifosi wraparound style. Watches - I agree. I always wear a watch. I rotate between about 25 watches, which sounds like a lot and is, but once you get the bug, hard to stop, kind of like some guys with knives.

CRKT Squid II (micarta version) or CRKT M16-14SF (full hilt folder) I swap the Squid for the M16 when I’m out shooting street photography due to usually having between $25K-$50K worth of Leica lenses on my person. I'm planning to upgrade to a small firearm soon. I occasionally also carry a normal color Leica M10, or an M7 if I feel like shooting film, but the Monochrom goes everywhere; weddings, dentist appointments, grocery store, bathroom, etc. The Mous phone case is that ridiculously over-engineered polycarbonate and aramid fiber case with internal impact-absorbing cushions that was famously drop-tested from a helicopter. :D That's my loadout.

Ten items? #1: Glasses. No, not sunglasses. Prescription. #2: Leatherman Wave+ #3: Kore Belt (where the Wave+ hangs out.) #4: Rogue Wallet #5: Pocket Knife #6: $20. I try to have $20 bills stashed in an internal pocket of each of my jackets, there's a $20 sandwiched in between my phone and phone case, another in each of my vehicles' registration packet, etc. When fully "stocked", between the individual $20s and the 5x$20 I try to keep in my EDC bag, I probably have close to $250 squirrelled around so whenever I go forth I'll have emergency cash. If I have my keys, I have a flashlight. I dunno, 10 items seems a bit much to me...

Always needed to wearing glasses all my life, so I think many people might be interested about stackable glasses with magnetic layers: magnifying, sun, draft & work protection, which I have found recently. 1. layer = clear glasses, magnets on the left and right side can keep each next layer of: 2. magnifying-, 3. sun-, 4. night vision-, 5. work protection - glasses. I need 4 (normal) - 6 (reading) dioptrin, but magnifying glasses are only 2 dioptrins, still helpfull wearing stackable glasses over my normal 4 dioptrin glasses! Of course my top 10 EDC are the usually ones: glasses, keys, portemoney (pocket money purse), SAK (6 layer), flashlight, german shopping cart-metalliccoin, mini aid, paperclips, pencil size mini bit set screwdriver and leatherman clone together in a beltpocket inside my bagpack for mobile on the get home bicycle repairs etc. I am also used to take my bike repair kit in my bagpack with gloves and more.

I think the reason why you get a rash with the apple watch, is because of the glass. My best guess is that it creates a vacuum between the glass and the skin of you wrist and thus your skin can breathe. I have the same with watches with a crystal case back. (specially the larger ones)

Great video (as usual). I wouldn't be surprised if you already know about this company, but I have a couple of boots from Thursday Boot Company. In my opinion, they're great. They have several different styles, usually go for around $200 (which is a pretty penny, but for boots, I think that price point is pretty fair).

I also recommend Thursday boots especially for those with larger feet and those looking for a more budget option.

Taylor, I love your videos. I need a good pair of boots. What are the first ones you talked about and are they still available?

Hey Taylor, what is the Apple Watch ultra band in green in the thumbnail? Looks like the scuba band in green.

Hell yeah, Crocs! Folks that criticize them have never tried them! I wear them all the time, and with socks, which takes their comfort up to another level! Fashion be damned - function over form all day. 😁 🤘👊🐊

Just subscribe. Love your content. Haven’t seen you mention magnets. Neodymium magnets. I carry two small flat round ones stuck to my Gerber 600. They are great for sticking schematics to any metal panel I am working in. Great for playing with as well.
