SIZING
For reference, I am 160cm or 5'3. I wear an AU 6, XS. EU 34 and US 0 (I take one size down in US sizing). I am more pear shaped and often need to size up one size for pants for it to fit well at the hip. For jeans I am usually a W26.

I appreciate that you said you could wear something for 5-10 years. There are so many youtubers who gush, I LOVE this, I'm gonna have this FOREVER til I DIE...and I just feel like, LIAR. There's no way of knowing if you'll keep something forever. Seriously. But 5-10 years is def realistic.

There are so many things that could stop us from keeping something forever, like accidently damaging it, or no longer fitting it ... so I try to stay away from saying that when I can. But 5-10 does seem more realistic :) and time flies by, I can't believe I've had some of these for 5!

I live in the UK so I use a raincoat, I find it more practical 😂 You give really good practical thought to every piece you mention. I value that. Love the trousers and sweater combo and the striped tops. They are definitely my go to. Thanks Helen x

Thank you Tracy :) Oh yes, a raincoat would be much more practical if there was more than a drizzle. Glad you like the striped top and sweater combos too!

Great list of pieces! Love hearing your reasoning for all of these, and it's always interesting to see someone talk about staples that aren't the usual jeans and white tee. I really appreciate that you always put emphasis on the fact that staples aren't a "one list fits all" situation but rather something catered toward your own style 😊

Thank you :) Always depends on lifestyle and aesthetic. I do love these videos and especially seeing how different the pieces are from person to person :)

Honestly, this is not even relevant for me as it's summer year long where I live. But I still really enjoyed watching it. It's always such an inspiration to see your outfit examples 😆

Some of these staples, the striped top, the blazer (regular fit) and the merino crew neck, I have been wearing my whole adult life (1990s onwards...), while others like the straight leg jean, middy skirt and wide pants, while stylish classics in my own wardrobe right now, have been in and out of fashion for as long as I remember. But they look so good, so I hope they stick around as I have been embracing them a lot lately. Btw, I loved how you layered the classic string of pearls with the more modern, irregular pearls, I haven't worn my (mother's) classic pearls in years because they look too formal and dated but this combination really looks good!

Thirty percent is a great discount, I will definitely check out Grana. I love that they use natural and other breathable fibers, like lyocell, that’s all I wear. I also love the cool, mink brown of your new Grana sweater, most browns tend too warm for my cool coloring.

Thanks for this video! Grana is a new brand for me. I have been looking for trousers in a lightweight natural material for a few years now, but could never find any flattering ones for petites. I think I'll go for the silk and tencel trousers you styled in this video. They looked so great on you!

Some elastic at the waist is critical for me in bottoms, otherwise they just slide down off my narrow hips. An elasticated back is perfect, that way I still get the classic-waist look in front.

Ok I'm seeing a lot of trench coats come in to Australian retailers since we had such a wet year 2022, but a trench coat doesn't actually protect from (heavy) rain so I'm confused about when to wear it here? It's not a warm coat, it's only water "resistant" so... is it just a fashion piece?
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Жыл бұрын
I feel like I love the trench coat because Sydney weather never gets that cold. So it gives the look of a coat, and blocks out some wind etc without being too warm either. So from Spring/Autumn to Winter, it stays around in my wardrobe and feels climate appropriate :) In winter, I'll do a chunky knit + trench, and in the transitional seasons, a light knit + trench
@geniej2378
@geniej2378 Жыл бұрын
@@DailyHelenJ Yeah I suppose you can layer it in winter, though I like wearing my one heavy coat on those few cold days haha. Easier to take off just the coat too when entering air con'd places. I suppose it's a fancy wind breaker which can be useful when most of the cold is coming from wind chill.

Speaking of shoes, here's something I learned recently. When I shop for shoes, I often see shoes with extremely thin soles, and sometimes those soles are sort of "felty" on the bottom. I never buy shoes like that bc I know I'd slip and fall in them. Shoes like that are obviously not of high quality. But what I learned is, the import duties on "slippers" are much cheaper than for "shoes," so having felted soles is way to get around paying the duties. The company claims they are slippers when they're not. The price is cheap and the quality is cheap.

Last summer I bought a pair of leather sandals and 10 seconds after I put them on I had a terrible fall on a staircase when they just slipped out from under me. I checked the description, the soles were made of plastic, not rubber! Never again!🙂

If my “soul” wears down, can I get that replaced along with my “soles”? 🤪 Haha sorry I just had to 😆 Thank you for your amazing + practical advice and ideas!! 🤗❤️ Especially made note of your tip about the sole extending past the end of the shoe! I never truly noticed this detail before, but it’s something I’ll definitely be looking out for whenever I’m looking for a new pair!! 👍👍😊 P.S. I hope you’ll feel better soon; be sure to get in plenty of rest!! 🤗❤❤❤❤

I wish Levi's would come out with a similar style to ribcage but with 10.5" rise, their 501s are too slim, their wedgie steaight gave actual wedgies, the ribcage rise is for people with extra long torsos.

I love trench coats and jumpers but being in FNQ there’s no use for them. But I go have a trench style raincoat and a silky light material trench style coat for date nights so I don’t get FOMO lol.

Hi Helen, hope you are feeling better. I would just like to ask how the red Sezane loafers size , did you get your normal size or are they big or small?
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Жыл бұрын
Hi Beverley, I recommend if you're in between sizes to size down. I'm a 37.5, and I sized down to 37 and they fit well. The 38 was way too big.

Do you think there is such thing like a quality poliester for sweaters?
@kimberlyperrotis8962
@kimberlyperrotis8962 Жыл бұрын
You didn’t ask me, but I don’t think any polyester or acrylic garment is good quality, these fabrics are just dirt-cheap plastics made from petroleum and won’t breathe.🙂
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ Жыл бұрын
I think if you're sensitive to wool, a blend could be a great option. I personally wouldn't consider something with more than 30% synthetic as I do feel like I overheat in them. That being said, I do notice a difference between bad quality and higher quality polyester, some definitely feel a lot nicer and more comfortable than others.
