This is just what the little generator is for. Charging battery, running some lights. and a small window AC is a bonus.

In case anyone watching this wants to know. I just got a Frigidaire FFRA051WAE And it has a soft start feature. When testing it gradually ramps up in watts when compressor kicks on so it never spikes. Around 460 watts max cool highest fan. Youre still going to want to turn off eco mode when starting since this load is still over 50% of the running watts of the sportsman. Also, the extension cord matters too. Thickness of guarge isnt so important with this load but length does. I.E. dont try and run 800 watts off a generator with a 150ft 16 guage cord. As the length gets longer the voltage drops over the distance. There are many tables on the internet showing proper guage and length possible for the loads.

We have 1 room in our house that's " storm" ready little windo unit and all led lights, of course the xbox and plenty of charge points with extra couches for the family to chill freaking cheap and a life saver. We have a Briggs and Stratton 5000 storm defender and it just cruses barely even breaks a sweat. Runs 6-8 hours . Being prepared is better than being miserable 😊

Very Nice Review. I have two of these Generators for a couple years now. (one is BNIB). Just keep them in the background for just in case. Camping, Power outage or back yard ETC. Have used the one around the house on small projects. May need to start checking more of the limits on these units .Thanks for the lead on the CHIONE. Was very impressed. Will need to pick one up for camping.

I can't say enough good about Buffalo Tools. I bought a sportsman desert sand 4000 last year from Walmart after 40 hrs it quit generating electricity. My first thought was, what do you expect out of a $300 generator. I called Buffalo tools service dept and the lady gave me directions with pictures to check the brushes and AVR. When both of those items showed no signs of breaking or burning up she got another lady to email me a postpaid shipping label to send it back to them. I received another brand new in the box within a week delivered to my door. I have about 600 hrs on the newer one and it performs like a champ usually starting on the first pull. I use it often powering my 25 ft travel trailer. If and when it conks out I will definitely be buying another Sportsman.

I just wanted to mention that a different 5000 btu ac may not work. I tried this with a different model and the surge when the compressor kicked in would shut generator off about 80% of the time. I also tried to put a cheap soft start cap in and that didn't help much either. I am glad you found a combination to work for you.. thanks for posting.

Also use this combination of generator and ac. Frigidaire 5000 btu. We use it at outdoor craftfairs when the temps push 100°F. Of interest is it starts almost 100% of time when temps are in the 90s or below. Over 100°F, it stalls almost always. Must have something to do with the higher pressures on the high side as the ac at the higher temps. Can eventually get it to run by toggling the switch back and forth between low fan and low ac and listening to the generators rpm ramp high. If you're lucky low ac will start eventually.

How do you install a soft start capacitor? Is it just a plug-in or did you have to hard wire it in?
@moto66574 ай бұрын
I got this generator to run a 5k btu, and I was disappointed when the generator kept shutting off when the compressor tried to kick on. But I ran the ac on grid power for awhile then tried the generator again and to my surprise the generator didn’t shut down and ran the ac until the gas ran out. I will try to run it again after the ac has been sitting awhile to see if that made the difference

I have had mine for 3 years and it runs fine granite I don't use it 30 days straight in a row I use it a couple weeks here and there also with running a 5000 BTU air conditioner my experience is it runs it fine on low cool until it's about 100° and when it starts kicking the compressor off and on it will kick my generator eventually it could be my air conditioners of it could be a lot of things
@kvhvtke193511 ай бұрын
Have used mine with the 5000 BTU air conditioner and when it's 100° outside or in the upper 90s I can run it on low cool for hours but sooner or later the compressor will kick hard and it will kick my generator off and I will have to start all over how could you get my air conditioner is old and the compressor is kicking too hard a shortened the core to about a 3-ft cord heavy duty I've even plugged straight into the air conditioner and it still will eventually happen it may be 2 or 3 hours tell you the truth it would be better if the compressor didn't ever kick off

@BrianWatersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It could be the cord, or if he maybe tried to start it on full blast max mode. You have to be “gentle”. Start it off with the fan on low, go to fan hi, then low cool and then you can RR to make it colder. At least that’s how it worked for me n

Notice the host checked the ambient temperature before he ran the AC. Temps were in the 70’s with overcast sky’s. Try running the AC in 98 degree weather with the sun beating down. Of course it’s the triple watt startup that’s the real test. Will the AC compressor kick on in high temperatures with that generator???
