My husband is bedridden and I introduced him to Martijn and he can’t wait for Sunday mornings! He loves the chickens and is always happy to get a glimpse of them following Martijn around the property. We joke about what Martijn is cooking, always something elaborate vs what is actually in the pan. He remembers all the things that he had made/built in his past and cheers Martijn on during every project. Martijn is truly a renaissance man. Art, design, the art of stone masonry, photography, cooking, sewing…this list goes on. What he doesn’t know, he finds out how to make it happen. God bless you, Martijn, and I can’t wait for your parents next visit and their reaction to all your hard work!

Your plum is probably autosterile and needs a pollinator nearby (within about 20 meters). Get yourself a Stanley plum. Young trees only cost about 8 - 20 euros at a nursery (vivaio), depending on whether it is a one-year, two-year or three-year old plant. Purchase locally because it will be acclimated to the climate.

Loved the sound of the birds before any dialogue began. You looked on edge and frustrated until the dogs came to visit. They were so happy to see you and that's a good energy that dissolves congestion points both physically and emotionally. I am not a fan of other people deciding what I build on my land. I resorted to some work arounds to build my restaurant that had nothing to do with safety or usability but were politically motivated by the county anticipating new regulations that never materialized. Teeth gnashing. Hard to draw an even breath in the face of seemingly arbitrary roadblocks.

All the leaves you collect as well as a thick bed of hay or straw put into the floor of your chicken run, during the coldest winter months, could provide your hens with so much. It not only gives them warmth but enrichment. They can forage and scratch in it. It attracts bugs which they love to hunt and as it breaks down, emits heat. Just a small gesture when it’s the coldest would go along way for happier hens. ❤ following!

A stone building is a better option because once it's heated, the thermal mass will hold heat, as well as the masonry stay cool in summers. You have the material all around you. You can invite people who've never done this before to come help, traditional architecture summer school programs are becoming very popular in a few countries near you. Use the opportunity to make it more than just a workshop, but a springboard for others to rebuild the many buildings you hike by. I think ultimately you will come to see this as a blessing.

From my wife. So happy that you cleaned the chicken coop! Sorry about your workshop plans being denied. That's the fun bit of land ownership. Yes, more work, but from your renderings, it will be lovely. Plum trees need a lot of water and some amendments to the soil in order to bear fruit -- but please be aware that once they start producing fruit it can be overwhelming. It depends on which varietal of plum tree you have. Your sweet chickens will eat some bits... Worry about your shower being so close to your bed. Even though you take mini 15 liter showers, you can ruin your bedding and the bed itself. Cheers on the music at the end. Quite lovely. And your edits have so improved ( retired producer with pic and sound editing background ). Welcome to spring!

I didn't have any ads on this one...or the last couple come to think of it..🤔did anyone else? I sometimes see in the comments people complaining about the amount of ads in Martijns videos, it's not something I've seen myself. I would watch them if there were some because its my way of supporting him, I can't be a patreon [?] but I will watch the ads through so he gets a revenue from them. I do this with a few really good 'Tubers', like Father Johannes for instance.

I have no words to express my gratitude for the nourishing interlude you provide in my life every Sunday, as I have my cocktail before I make my dinner ... and the images from each episode, linger in my mind till next Sunday. Thank you Martjin ... Having a conversation with you as the sun sets, is now officially on my bucket list ...

So nice too see the chickens roaming again, and that the white one seems to be fully recovered.

Hallo Martijn. Nice to see this new episode. I think it’s time for safety while working with the chainsaw. Buy a pair of clearing saw protective trousers. The question is not if it’s going wrong sometime, but when. Be prepared. Buy protective shoes and a helmet like neighbour Johannes.

Nice to see the snow retreating up the mountains, spring is returning. Those downed trees represent a serious health threat. Relieving the strain and stress on a tree by limbing it often transfers the stress on the tree in weird ways. I was swept by a loaded limb once that suddenly cut loose its load, explosively so. I’ll never look at a downed tree on a hill the same way. Be safe, take your time, release all the unloaded limbs on top first. Have a tourniquet in a shirt pocket.

Martijn, your skills and fortitude are an inspiration! For example, the way you handle disappointment (from plumbing to declined workshop models) is a wonderful display of faith, personal ethics, and a deep grasp of process. Anyway, your quality of work is stunning to us all! Thanks for taking us along on your walks...such wonderful moments. You look satisfied and fulfilled.

Wow, the workshop entirely made from stone! That will be A LOT of work. I built "only" 10 mtrs of stone wall to secure the outside of my cave and it was SO MUCH work, gathering the stones, then building the wall 1mtr thick at the bottom and about 50 cms at the top. Literally a back breaking work! But then again, you are younger than I was then and you are a man

I love seeing all the abandoned stuctures you pass along your walks. The one you sat near for lunch, sharing the workshop update, was so beautiful. Great propostions and a really nice perch so close to the ledge. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.

Martin, can I suggest when your quince and plum tree are flowering so early that you pollinate them with a little soft brush. They may be too early for the the bees 🐝. Have a good week, thanks for the update 🏴

Welcome to Italy! It is a country of complicated bureaucracy, mainly for no good reasons. And you are lucky that Piedmont and that area may have few restrictions compared to other regions and areas of the Italian peninsula. I am surprised they are not asking you for certified plumbers to do the job you are doing now or an electrician to certify that the electrical is on code, etc. You are doing an amazing job and I always love to watch your videos over the weekend. Thank you for sharing!

Bureaucracy, mainly for no good reasons? Get your load of "vincoli paesaggistici" my good friend. If you don't have this kind of rules you'll have buildings made of steel and glass in no matter of time near Martijn's house. There's a cultural heritage to protect

Mi sembra normale che debbano essere seguite delle regole in fatto di edilizia altrimenti tutti farebbero come gli pare.

I am suprised you didnt know about log cabins in that area before you put in your application. Sometimes the regulations can seem excessive but this time I am so happy they are respecting the traditions of the area. It will be worth the extra work

Chau Martijn. A calmer week, without cement, without stones. The snow remains and looks like it will return, but spring has already brought a smile. See you next week. Hug.

Sorry indeed to hear about the permit being denied. It seems like poor choice by the people making that decision. We know you will consider and adapt your way through this challenge and who knows what unexpected benefits may result. Good luck and thank you for your brilliant creations.

What a week! Plumbing is a necessary evil sent to test us. So sorry about the rejection of a log cabin. It would have been perfect in this setting but of course, stone will do just as well. These code restrictions can be so ridiculous, defying reason. When we built in the Canadian Rockies, we had to use wood only, and now 20 years later, they demand fireproof rooves due to our risk of wildfires. Love how the hens want to be around you - lucky fowl. Thanks for taking us along on another beautiful walkabout.

Thank you Martjin, your right most of us would want a longer shower. But your doing whats right and what works for you and your house. I thank you for your walks in your beautiful mountain and its area. The moonlight was gorgeous, then going by and looking in the old stone houses, they are lovely and so sad that they're falling down. The last one you sat down at with the white flowers, I just loved the place. It was so peaceful, a wonderful place for meditation. The sound of the water enhanced the thoughts. Love when you take us on your walks, especially since I can't do so because of mobility issues. Thank you so much Martjin. Blessed Be 🥰💜💜💜🙏
