About the color separation on this kit, the designer Gyobu Ippei doesn't involved in plastic model making. A lot of his design is pretty oddly shape and I think bandai designers team have a pretty hard time converting the 2D line art to 3D model without changing the original design. For the HG low budget kits they just can't make every single color apps into separate pieces, especially the IBO line. Most of the kit are relatively cheap because of that.

That's an IBO-MS which would really profit from getting a Master Grade version. Lorewise it was one, if not THE most badass Gundam suits of the series.

I like there are canonical reasons for design elements. It's built to counter Mcgillis and his mobile suit. You're right in the weird choices in the kits construction. You have to wonder what they're thinking or if there's a reason the kit was made this way. Great review Zack!

I can understand the elbow stickers, since the connection between that blueish and white would be very small (or even none at all) while these plastic pieces need to be at least 1mm thick to stay solid.

I love the way this kit looks but the stickers vs part separation aspects are really strange. I actually prefer the blue to the purple of the original design, though it is pretty bizarre how wrong they got the colors.

In the anime its straight up purple like the previous Kimaris forms The purplish/blue they use here for the main armor seems to be the same color they used for the previous Kimaris forms inner frame

No matter what people say about the designe. I love this Ms and I going to lay my hands on it no matter what. I also think that repainting those yellow bits in more of a bronze colour and the legs in a more shinier black would be awesome.

pretty cool kit really loving the greco vibe it gives. I also like on how the design has references to the actual lore it came from as kimaris was depicted as a horse with a jet black body with purple and a horn in the head in some illustrations and how it references certain aspects of the character. Definitely looking leagues better than vidar in my eyes anyway. i also like on how much effort and research the designer put into this makes me appreciate it even more but i can also see why this design can put people off but to each their own

I like what the designers were going for. I don't think we needed the chunky legs and that they could have incorporated the jet black horse in another way. Plus the bright yellow is skittle weird. I would have preferred a dark purple. I hate the backpack lance thing so I'll probably replace that when I get it. If they were doing black for his horse I think they could've used more Helmwige style feel instead of giant legs. If this kit had a separate booster for the horse symbolism I'd prefer that but it's just an odd kit. Basically the complete opposite from Bael (which is good) but I believe this suffers from similar problems the Lupus Rex had when putting too much into a high grade that is supposed to be under $18.00

H. Wright tbh the kimaris lore and appearance is basically split amongst all 3 of the variants, the og kimaris having that regal marquis look and that knightly aura with it, the Trooper having the more horse symbolism for both the kimaris lore and the sleipnir lore with its gimmick with its legs and its more Knight appearance, and the kimaris vidar having more cues of the old appearances of kimaris in the ars goetia. i can admit in why the sword of kimaris vidar is more katana esque instead of the more traditional european sword still baffles me but i honestly love on how the kimaris line is really inspired with the knight aspect they were going for the gundam frames, how much the design has cues from the ACTUAL LORE (cough barbatos cough), and how consistent it is.. but hey to each their own

Personally I like both of them.But infact that I love kimaris and vidar,that makes me love the design and color scheme of kimaris vidar.Maybe the color is not that accurate to the show,but I think its still makes sense because vidar is blue and kimaris is purple so it is stil fantastic.Some people may like this kit and some don't.The head has a horn because its according to a knight or from kimaris trooper itselft.The leg is brown/black-ish because from a horse or from vidar black's color. Vidar is blue and black and kimaris is white and purple.Vidar has sleeker design/ninja design and kimaris has bulky and knight design.And when they combine,this is the result.I just think it looks perfect and stylish(I guess).Idk it just me,you know.If you like vidar just grab it.But if you like kimaris and vidar,just buy kimaris vidar.It just a perfect combination of both of them.Bandai really did a great job of combining them especially the design and the color.

With only two good reviews(imo), this gunpla is perhaps one of the most divisive I've seen. Some hate it, while a seemingly equal number of fans love it. Personally, I love the design, a much appreciated improvement over the previous Kimaris designs.

I don't know why they decided it was a good idea to use those plastic on plastic ball joints in the HG IBO line. It seems to not work too well on any of the kits I remember that feature appearing on. IIRC they were flat out terrible on kits like HG Vidar and Reginlaze. The ones on this kit seem only slightly better, and I'd bet that they'd get really bad really fast if it the joint was used more. If I were to build a kit with one of these joints, the first thing I'd do is try to build a polycap in place of the plastic socket. The joint would be better, and I'd have a couple less spare polycaps laying around.

When I first saw this I hated the design, but now I'm kind of coming around to the design of the suit. I might not pick up the model kit only because you have to leave the drill knees off if you're not going to use them. I do find it interesting how this is the original Kimaris design.

The Kimaris gunplas are great, each form different than the last. Whereas Barbatos hardly changes in each form. The anime shows that Kimaris is overhauled to better fight in a specific battlefield while Barbatos is overhauled because it sustained heavy damages. I think the anime shows the disparity in wealth and resources between Tekkadan and Teiwaz versus Gjallarhorn and Gaelio. It also shows how weak Gaelio is as a pilot. In season 1 he insulted Mikazuki for having an ancient mobile suit and when he couldn’t win against him (Mikazuki) he brings out Kimaris and thinks he would win. The second season has Kimaris changed greatly to fight faster and with more maneuverability. Kimaris Vidar also shows Gaelio’s weakness, he has to rely on the type-e einz brain machine just to stand on equal footing with Barbatos and Bael.

I have a question, for anyone cause I am a total noob to Gundam universe or meta verse cause there is some much out. Due to stumbling on to this channel I have recently built my first Gundam model and it was a very nice break from the usual table top minis I build and paint for the games I play and the build was very enjoyable. My question cause I doodle and tinker with thing a lot is there a website or book out there that can be use as reference guide for varies Gundams. I.e. this is Gundam Model X and these Gundams are based on this chassis or you have Gundam Model Z and these Gundams are based on that chassis.

Jason Hopkins in terms of lore on the various universes, on the wiki they do a good job of telling you which series a suit comes from and the variants it was developed into. like how in The Universal Cemtury the Ex-S gundam is a variant of the S gundam and how it was developed based on the Double Zeta (ZZ) gundam. it terms of kits i dont know. best bet is googling some images to verify it it exists or not.

This looks like a Gundam Wing side story ms, pretty much dedicated to space combat. The deinsleif wouldn't work in gravity or in atmosphere well, and the lance and shields would be cumbersome, the crab feet wouldn't be stable.

Because it IS a space use MS. All of its thrusters are positioned so that it'll excel in hit and run attacks. The Kimaris Trooper is the ground use version of Kimaris

I agree. A uniform color scheme would work better. Personally I like the Vidar better, but this new head sculpt looks good (minus the crest on top). Overall I think this kit is a fixer upper. It can look good but its going to need a lot of love from the modeler. This is definitely not for beginners.

gundam116 drill doesn't need to be really sharp, so long as the drill action digs into the enemy. In addition, this design works in space, where mobility isn't much of an issue. Because of that, many space designs can armor up a lot more compared to designs that are made to deal with gravity. Besides, all you would need to deal with the extra weight in space is more thrusters.
