Unfortunately it’s often the case with children of people with illnesses or disabilities. I grew up with a mother who is a brittle diabetic, I can remember countless school nights where my dad had to go on a business trip even though he didn’t want to go and she’d get very low and I’d have to be up with her all night making sure her blood sugars weren’t to a point where she needed a hospital and was eating candy to bring it back up to a normal range. I’m not angry or blaming my mother, I’ll do it every night in a heartbeat but it’s a lot of work and for as long as I can remember ive been looking out for her even when I couldn’t fully look out for myself

She has been put into a position where she has to take care of her mother and her family, because the “mother” cannot do so. She is doing what the adults should be doing. And she is getting no help with that. It shouldn’t be difficult to understand that. That poor girls childhood is being taken away from her because the mother can’t do what she needs to do and be the caretaker.

If she is struggling to buy food then she would inevitably lose weight, regardless of whether the food she is eating is healthy or not. Obesity is the result of eating excessively not necessarily from eating processed foods. If her finances are limiting the amount of food she can consume then she would inevitably be in a calorie deficit.
