I wouldn't say her greed led to this. It's more along the lines of the fact it happened to her so young she hadn't developed healthy coping mechanisms to work past the trauma. It's not something that can easily be left behind, even if an assault victim doesn't linger on thoughts on what actually happened, the underlying influences can go on the rest of their lives. Like how some unconsciously eat as a defense mechanism. Some unconsciously want to become less of a potential target for another assault by becoming less appealing. They are also given the satisfaction of the momentary pleasure hormone to get over the overall depression.

And she told herself, basically: "I don't want to be attractive anymore, so that doesn't happen to me again!" Those rough patches are acanthosis nigricans and cannot be scrubbed off. It’s a sign of pre diabetes/insulin resistance and most likely in her case diabetes. It’s characterized by velvety rough dark skin usually in folds of skin but can occur anywhere. She visibly has it on her face and elbows too. Very sad story, I haven’t watched the episode yet but I hope she’s able to heal somehow

Obesity in most people I have known and have met (including myself when I was a teenager) is rooted in mental health. No one WANTS to be obese and ill. No wants to become something that society treats cruelly and deems wrong. Most people who are obese either have a physical illness or mental illness or both. I wish more compassion and understanding was afforded to obese people as it was to anorexic people (though I know that they have to deal with horrible people and comments as well). These people need our help and our compassion. Above all else we need to remember that they are HUMAN like the rest of us. They feel all the same emotions as us. They go through many of the same things as the rest of us. I wish that in all countries there was more money and aid put into mental health surrounding eating disorders. More than anything we need the media to stop pushing unrealistic, airbrushed beauty down our throats and promote natural beauty, scars, spots, stretch marks, body hair, bodies in all shapes and sizes.

I didn't tell anyone, and I was scared. Eventually, I told my best friend, and she contacted the principal. The boy who did it was only suspended for a week. I also know what it's like to be overweight, I pretty much was my entire life. But I decided to get active and become a dancer, a volleyball and softball, AND a bowler. I've been so much happier since the situation, focusing on other things. Ashley, stay strong, and keep being the amazing, beautiful woman you are.

I have so much respect for her for what you go through and what you have to do every single day to do what you need and the reason behind why she eats alot made my heart break her uncle assaulted her and she ate all her pain away and it just breaks my heart she protected her sisters so their childhood wouldnt be ruined, so that they would stay innocent and now she has to live her life like this, and who knows how long she has left before it gets worse
