The 16 points is why he never won one. That's my biggest knock on Stockton...he wasn't aggressive enough offensively for a guy who could shoot so well. He even said himself that he regretted not being more aggressive offensively. It especially hurt them in the finals. They didn't have much on offense, and Malone had to do most of the scoring

In no world should Isaiah Thomas have won MVP when prime Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan were playing during the same time. 19 ppg and 8 apg is not going to cut it, when Magic is having equal level team success but averaging FAR better stats in 22 ppg, 13 apg, 8 rpg on better efficiency. And MJ is just on another planet statistically nearly doubling IT's scoring with 35-6-6 or 32-8-8. IT is a great player, but there are levels to this, and individually he was just not in the same sphere as guys like Magic or Jordan.

That's a fair point. However, to me, the IT segment was making a subtle MVP case for IT. Maybe not to the point that he should have won over Magic in 89 or 90, but at the very least, he was making the case that he had a case for MVP as much as Magic. Notice, what he says... "Led a team of misfits to the best record," "while Magic had a star cast," "had the best record," "he would go on to prove everyone wrong by sweeping Bird, and later Magic..." Etc. Those aren't words that are ONLY saying he's one of the greatest players to not win MVP... He's implying that he should have won (or at the very least, he should have had just as much a case as Magic in those particular years). Which again, I'm saying, he does not have a case on the level of Magic or Jordan in the late 80s/early 90s. Is he an MVP-csliber player? Sure. But again, there are levels to this, and he rightly shouldn't have ever won the award in a world where he's playing at the same time as prime Bird, prime Magic, and prime MJ. At the very most, I grant he could have been voted higher, like in the top 10 or even top 5 some of those years, but not quite in the same league as the guys mentioned above.

No because the voters require the team to have a great record. Sometimes the require the team to have the best record but even when that doesn't happen. The team has to at least be a playoff team. In those situations though that player has to have significantly better stats than the stars that got the top 1-3 slots in the playoffs. The only exception that I can think of is when Westbrook win the mvp on a very mediocre team but that's because he had an alltime great season that prior to it happening no one would ever believe someone his size would avg a triple double. Facts!!! I Love Dame though, his us so clutch & one of the most loyal athletes ever
