I grew up having access to guns and bullets because I shot guns with my older brothers. My dad was a hunter. I never ever shot up my school, never shot my family. Probably because I was raised in church and taught to respect my parents and respect human life. Funny, that.

My significant other had abnormal thoughts of violence after being put on Lexapro 10 years ago. Thankfully, he realized something was very wrong and confided in me. Called his doctor and they took him off right away. Psychosis from antidepressants is real. And, he is not a violent person whatsoever in any way shape or form.

My mom was on Lexapro for 40 years, she decided 1 day to stop taking it & she's been in a better mood ever since. Those are some serious meds. I'm not a medical expert in any way but it's like night & day difference, she seems so much better off them, I honestly wander if those meds were "making her depressed"...I was misdiagnosed & perscribed it & had every side effect except death (which even came close to that)...I had a Horrible reaction to it, 1 pill hospitalized me 5 days! Crazy what meds can do to different people. Really all depends on your bio chemistry... wild. I'm glad your significant other is ok now! 💞

Prescription drugs can be very dangerous especially with children

I don't think people realize that these medications prescribed for depression weren't tailored for use in children or teens. It's difficult enough trying to get an adult on the right medication due to the serious side effects. I went through this with my husband & the 1st medication he was given was scary. My calm, quiet husband became so aggressive that I feared him. I stopped giving it to him & the doctor tried another medication which finally worked which he was seen a physiatrist regularly. These anti-depressions take 6 to 8 weeks to feel for the full effects of these medications whether good or bad. This case is truly heartbreaking for the Mother who lost her life @ the hands of her mentally disturbed young teenage daughter.😢Ontario, 🇨🇦

I agree. I was prescribed Lexapro in my mid twenties. After about 5 days on it, I honestly felt like I was out of mind. I was constantly thinking about jumping off the balcony of my 11th floor condo, amongst other things. I stopped it immediately, and the intrusive thoughts also ended. Something about Lexapro and I definitely did not mix. I then tried a different antidepressant, and it has had a positive effect on my life. There is a place for these types of drugs, but there needs to be close monitoring, especially at the beginning of treatment It doesn't excuse the murder in any way, but I absolutely believe Lexapro could have been a contributing factor.

Medication CHANGE is a very dangerous period of time. Did the psychiatrist say that?
@honeybadger1847
@honeybadger1847 15 күн бұрын
Psychiatrists and psychologists agree that the most dangerous time for depressed patients is when antidepressants are just beginning to work. When a patient is functioning at 10/100, the patient is essentially immobile, unable to think, shower, eat, work, etc. But when a patient has a general assessment functioning of 30, the patient can act--without much organization, analysis or consideration of consequences. It can take anywhere from 5-30 days for SSRIs to kick in, during which they should be monitored closely.

Lexapro is an anti-pressant, not an anti-psychotic. Can anti-depressants worsen Bipolar without a mood stabilizer…yes, that’s a possibility. I’m a clinician and I think the guest hit it on the head. I think this is more of a case of a young person who was already vulnerable to committing a crime such as this. We technically can’t diagnose an adolescent with a personality disorder but the symptoms do emerge and can be seen in adolescence.

The science doesn't lie. And as someone who has taken SSRIs, I understand the terrifying rage they induce. I took them as an adult, so I had control over it, but if I had taken them when I was 14, I don't know that I would have been able to control the rage. I just might have killed my mom. Our clashes were pretty heated at that age, and if I had the same chemical in my system that caused the rage I felt when I took it as an adult, I would have likely ended up in prison.

I will post it again Maybe this time it won't get deleted. Have you ever been on these medications? I have and it made me nuts my mom debated having me committed. I was taking it for anxiety and depression. It made me go crazy. The ones who have never taken these meds are the ones who act as if they know how it can effect people. It says right in the paperwork may make suicidal and homicidal ideation to increase.

I don't know what happened. He looked me square in the eye one day and said I'm going to kill you. He said if you think I'm f****** with you, you're mistaken. He turned into a crazy person. Needless to say, I made sure never to see him again. People on antidepressants can be very scary.

Hmm sounds like your lacking some serious logic and emotions. No 8 year old thinks like an adult or has a developed brain, so it's a scientific fact that they aren't even close to aware of what they are doing compared to an adult. Secondly she was already mentally ill, then they put her on an EXTREMELY harsh mind altering drug that thousands of adults have lost their minds on in days. (Maybe read some.facts and peoples stories before opening your mouth about things you have zero knowledge about.) And judging everyone in the world who is mentally ill and on mind altering medication that's known to make adults go psychotic is completely ignorant.

Do you know there is a way to get tested to see which psychiatric medications would work best for you and your brain? They never ever ever ever tell people about these tests and try to see which one would be best and safest, they like to just throw different ones at you until you find one that you feel better on. But sadly stuff like this happens all the time because sometimes when they play Russian roulette with the drugs and they don't know if it's going to be effective or cause negative and adverse side effects people will either hurt themselves or hurt their family members. This could be completely avoidable sadly.

The only thing I have to say is that I have been on Lexapro in the past. It can cause hallucinations because it did for me, I cannot take it. If this girl was given Lexapro without taking enough time for other medications to pass out of her system, she could have also had serotonin syndrome, a potentially life threatening condition. Which also happened to me, switching over from Elavil to Lexapro, I had psychedelic trips while switching over incorrectly. And I'm in my 50's. With this young girl who knows what was happening to her. My condolences, to the family.

Most likely not the Lexapro. Yes she clearly has a history of mental illness but that's not the point. I would say "a history of antisocial/violent/disruptive behaviour" rather than "a history of mental illness" because it re-enforces the idea that mental illness equals violence. In fact the prosecution will have to prove it is not the mental illness.

The recommendation "take your medication" is for thoughtless people. Mental health problems are extremely complicated, and have evolved over years- they can't be fixed with drugs, pills. The limb of a tree grew a certain way- can it be changed with a pill? Personality formation takes years- the effect of negative events cannot be changed or treated with drugs.
