"A sick pin core." - This explains why I keep hearing you say "sickth" when you're talking about the 6th pin in a lock! Mystery finally solved, hehe. In all seriousness though Bill, yet another awesome giveaway (as always) and definitely a great start for somebody getting into picking locks, even the junk slider lock. I know that many will read the next part of my comment and it will make them think of me as a fan boy, I'm really not fussed though. I've only been watching you for a little over 2 years and want to say: > Your regularity and generosity with all of the giveaways you do is unmatched, even if some of the items are provided free of charge the accumulated postage costs alone that you have paid out would make people such as myself cry. Patreon or not, you're always paying it forward and I'm confident in saying that Patreon hasn't funded it all, some would have definitely come out of your own pocket. > The sheer range of locks that you're always prepared to tackle on camera regardless of success or failure gives your channel an unmatched depth. > The genuine nature of your picking rather than a rehearsed and packaged picking for imaginary cool points, the mistakes/failures prove that you are indeed a human and not a robot who doesn't ever fail at getting the open. It's all here on record for us to see, the good AND the bad, warts and all. For me at least, these reasons are why your channel is definitely one of the top KZbin channels for locksport and I hope that there are plenty more videos to come. Eventually I will get around to sending you a challenge lock to add to your pile, the cost of international postage from Australia is pretty bad and I'm also terribly good at procrastinating. Sorry for the long winded post but I just wanted to say thanks for everything Bill. Regards, Mr L

You probably heard it right! I was getting a some complaints about sibilance (the "s" sound) in my speech, so I apply a "DeEsser" filter using iZotope's RX7. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a blunt instrument and sometimes kills s's that I NEED.

I think we should be grateful for these crappy locks. If I’d had to start on some Medeco or whatever because there were no easy locks, I’d have quit locksport before my first open. So here’s to BV, Masterlock and all those other shoddy lock companies. Thanks for helping grow the community!

You say there is no skill to pick that lock but that's coming from a skilled picker lol. I think the average Joe Bikestealer wouldn't get that think opened as fast. Now that licorice chain is another story.

all you do is jam the pick in there and wiggle it around, he did it slowly if anything.

In addition to not being hardened that chain looked like open link, not welded link. Two screwdrivers through a link and twist in opposite directions (or a pair of chain link pliers) and bam, open.

Well... I hadn't thought of teasing sliders like that! Very interesting... I definitely wouldn't use this out in the wild . Sometimes you have to ask yourself, why is this $16, when it's competition being something like a Kryptonite at $100 - $150, for a bike lock & chain. --- 👍 Really sweet bundle! Amazon reviews, like amazon questions, are typically stupid. ‘Have not had a chance to use it yet but looks good. 5 stars.’ and countless variations thereof are to be expected.

@@51-FS a small business owner told me last week she used to get 20-30 free books a month from Amazon and she had to give it a 3-star or above no matter what. She said there's other people that have deals where they have to give a 5-star rating regardless of if they like the product or not.

speaking of amazon reviews, i recently was looking on there and seen reviews on one item, it had 4 or 5 negative reviews, but what was interesting was ALL the positive reviews, and i mean ALL!, were by one person, who probably worked for the company, trying to up the ratings. so anymore, i only look at the negative reviews

I think the $16.99 should be a big red flag but people believe in crap marketing and buy cheap by nature. :/
@4lifejeph5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I agree with that because you can buy an adult size bike for under $100 so why should a lock that's mostly chain cost $40-$100? It's kinda like a bottle of Pepsi costing less than a bottled water. It doesn't make sense to me.
@compgeke5 жыл бұрын
@@4lifejeph Much like the lock though, just because you can get a bike for $100, doesn't mean you should. They're built down to a price and often you're lucky to get more than a year before they aren't worth repairing anymore.
@4lifejeph5 жыл бұрын
@@compgeke I agree that a $100 bike is not the best bike but if you think about all the engineering and machining that goes into them with gears and everything else it just seems like a lock shouldn't be more than 20 of $30.

Consider how much (little!) money the Chinese manufacturer has invested in this thing. 16.99 retail, 50x markup by the time it gets to the US. That is 34 cents.

My coworker purchased one of these locks from a retail store for his bike. He asked me to test it. I had never seen one so I thought it would be a great challenge. I used a tension wrench and the knife pick from my Sparrows EOD kit. A few rakes and it was opened. It took me about 10 minutes to open 9 minutes was spent learning how the lock worked. 1 minute to open :(
