I've heard that the turn signals are not positioned well. I agree that a way to switch over from one battery to the other without stopping would be a good option. This is really their first model and if they can survive (and I hope they do) then I'm sure that changes will be made. Also, the seat can be designed with comfort and still look good. If I lived in a house I would get one for local commuting. At the same time I would be very worried parking this at the supermarket or on the street and walking away because it will attract the wrong attention and in a city environment I can see it be stolen even with the anti theft systems incorporated into the bike. Becasue of it's great looks you would need to be in eyesite of the bike at all times.

I got to ride one in mode 1 while at the electrofy expo. It was very nice but I agree. The price is a bit high for something that appears less than premium. Yup the rear turn signals need to be addressed for sure, seen that already as well. We brought ours out to Houston for a ride and it did very well all around the city. Perfect city/commute bike for sure. Love how stable it feels at speed, and how smooth the power delivery comes on. I wish there were more "reviews" of the company than the products they claim they'll make. Are they another fake EV company? Will they be around for more than 1 year? Are they well managed? Have they secured skilled and reliable employees and the needed production space? I couldn't care less about it's performance. LAND Energy is a brand new "company" funded by investors through Crunchbase. If it's just the one guy and a few of his buddies, it's the exact same formula as countless other "EV companies" that get funding and disappear.

That wire unplugging to swap batteries is easily replaced by a switch. At that price it should actually be a voltage-sensing DPTT industrial relay performing automatically, perhaps with an auxiliary relay showing on the display which battery is in use. I mean my cell phone could do this if it was dual battery, and the relay and module might add $400 in cost to manufacturer. Seems with that and the air shock without a coil, this thing may have some nagging maintenance issues. The price is high enough it needs to be very robust and reliable, no fiddling with wires.

I've been keeping an eye on this bike over the years, and I've been impressed. As a beginner I don't see all the negatives that most other experienced electric motorcycle riders see. Something you did mention, the size. You called it a " mini " motorcycle. I'm around 6'3'' and a bit heavier than average, I'm not sure I'd fit comfortably on a "mini " motorcycle, unless you just meant it was smaller than a full size?
@shastamite2 Жыл бұрын
Yes is is smaller than full size, but still bigger than a surron or a Sting R. THe size would be pretty good for you, maybe getting taller handlebars would make it perfect but it would be pretty dang good out of the box. They dropped the price of the bikes by $1500 this week!

As someone with no motorcycle riding experience but wants a bike, I want to justify why I should buy this electric motorcycle over something like an ICE Svartpilen 401 or a Ninja Z400, both of which are thousands of dollars cheaper. I live in an apartment building (no garage of my own), so would the lower maintenance of an e-moto offset some of the cost? Or am I just reaching for excuses? Does the District still require me to buy insurance like a regular bike? Am I allowed to take this on bike paths if it doesn't have pedals? I love the District, but it IS very expensive for the limited range that you get compared to so many ICE bikes.
@ozguy1393 Жыл бұрын
Still needs plates and insurance like any motorcycle. It is not a pedal bike, so bike paths are off limits almost everywhere. The power selector is misleading. The idea of calling it different names as if you can use it different isn't accurate. Places that allow class 1 or 2 won't allow a bike with selectable power like this. This is a motorcycle in every way. As for maintenance, a small ice bike will have fairly low costs to maintain so when buying one for less than half the cost of this they make more sense.

Why wouldn't you get a Sonders Metacycle with nearly twice the range and half the price?
@ElectricCycleRider2 жыл бұрын
@Cyumadbro summit Not to say the Sondors is a bad choice, especially if you're on a smaller budget, but the Land Moto is in a different league on the spec sheet. One of the biggest differences is that the Sondors is utilizing old tech with an inferior hub drive motor, compared to Land Moto's mid drive. The Sondors weighs 300 pounds compared to the 207 pound District that was tested here. Fit and finish between the 2 bikes is surely going to be different as well. As for the range, both companies claim the same range numbers (when compared to Land's 3.6kWh battery), but the 5kWh from Land has more claimed range. The problem with claimed range from any manufacturer is that it's often in "ideal conditions", at painfully low speeds in low power modes. Again, the Sondors is probably a fine option but they're not really on the same page when you break the bikes down.
@cyumadbrosummit35342 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricCycleRider But is it twice the bike for twice the price? Also if you want the lowest possible noise, regen and zero chain maintenance I believe a hub motor is actually advantageous, especially for a non off-road bike. Less regen also means more frequent brake maintenance.

We are still in a world of making a lot of compromises on all electric motorcycles. Either price, weight, range or power. If you are super idealistic about going electric, that would be the only compelling reason to get one for now. I think motos that will be on par with gas are coming but are probably 5 years out still. I have a 2017 DRZ 400sm and it does all this and more. Got it for $4k and it's cherry. Like the idea and am glad people are trying. Keep trying guys!!
@ElectricCycleRider2 жыл бұрын
@Grant Bowen For sure. The biggest compromise for electric is the range and it really only makes sense for a select group of users. I can't personally go "full" electric because I like to do long distance rides, so it makes sense for me to personally own gas bikes too. And you can't quite get the bang for your buck that your DRZ offers without limitations. So for some people, an electric would be an option in addition to gas. Will be cool to see the technology advance!

The few e-motorcycles out there are nice looking for sure. However, I’m waiting for the e-motorcycles that are highway capable. I want to see at least 100mph better would be 120mph top speed meaning 80-100mph is cruising speed all day. Which means the battery technology has to improve considerably to get long distance real world range. Hopefully in the next couple years this is the case. One would have to imagine companies out there are scrambling to invent much better electric battery capacity.

@ElectricCycleRider2 жыл бұрын
@Giovanni Esposito I speak so good of it because I really like the bike! It's one of the most fun electric motorcycles I've had for running around town and neighborhood type of riding. I like the size, power, build quality and personally love the way it looks. I see what you mean on some of the shortcomings and you have every right to not agree with me but it was a bike that I was bummed to let go after using it for a few weeks. The dual battery option is not my favorite in real world use. I do see why Land did it though. The single battery build is an affordable option for riders that are riding short distances (and they can potentially upgrade to a 2nd battery down the road), so it would make sense that they would just double down and make the dual battery as an option as well. As I mentioned in the video, I'd definitely want the single 5kWh battery option if I were owning this bike. I agree that it would be awesome if the bike had Level 2 charging capabilities but these batteries are all 72 volt. Maybe in future models?
@GiovanniEsposito52 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricCycleRider I understand and I am sure you are honest about it. I felt the same with the zero fx, but it has the same downsides, completely unacceptable for a urban ride like this. You don't need 11 kW charging rate, 2,5/3 kW will be plenty and there are hundreds of cheap on-board 72V charger that support j1772 and can do that for 2/300 bucks. These are the things we can not do without, and not having them on a new bike meant for the road is not acceptable imho.
