Hi Barry,you are like me,no spotter 💪 Mybee It's depending on our experience. ? In your and my age. I myself is 57 now,and have began my own road to 150 kg . It's the shoulder in the beginning who has given me the most trouble,but after 6 months It's felling much better again. Have done 160 kg in my youth. So 150 are not going to be so difficult i think. Today when i watching you lift,i lifting my self, started whit 15x 50 kg 12x70 5x100 . 8x100 . 5x 107,5. 5x107,5 5x 107,5 then down to,100 kg again. For so many as possible. 150 kg to the summer is the goal. Koncistency is the key, and progressive overload. I wish you good luck from a hillbilly lifter in Sweden who is training alone in house whit my Cats as assistant 😁💪

Great to hear from you and hear about your journey. Seems we're following same path :)
@69cheva2 күн бұрын
@@barrythomsonlifts Yes we have a goal, and we will reach it, just hang on. Your journey is an inspiration to many people. Of what you can do whit an old body 😁 Me myself is a slim man, weight 91-92 kg. Height 191 cm so i don't have t-rex arms, so its a struggle sometimes to lock out whit heavy weight. So i start whit the 5 heavy reps times 3 so my right shoulder dont break ,and fall apart 😁 But when i feel it is 100 %. I Will go for heavy 3 just take it slowly, don't want any injury. Have a great day. Grettings from Sweden.

@barrythomsonlifts I also workout in my home gym and really enjoy videos of others doing the same especially when they are trying to achieve a goal like you try to hit that 160kg. Makes it feel like I'm part of their journey watching them achieving their goals. I'm also strong my self I have a 230kg 1 rep max on the bench press at 113kg bodyweight so if I can be any help giving any advice that would be great. Only thing that scares me with you is that you have no spotter but you're doing great so far. I call my wife when I'm attempting big lifts on the bench and she has saved me many many times.

Hi Barry. Rob from Adelaide. Monday morning here and first thing i did was walk the dog arpund the block at 5am then checked in with a coffee and your video. Farking fantastic mate. 150 looked strong. If you had a spotter to be there for you i could see you doing 152kg for a rep in that session. Man looking very strong . Great session. May i make a suggestion. Cut back on some of your other body parts as in not so heavy intense save some strength and recovery and now focus on the bench to nail this 160kg mate. Wow impressive for sure great session.

Mate ,been there & almost died,back in the late 80's,please sort a get out plane,i ended up making some super strong adjustable box section side rails,adjustable so you can get them, just a fraction below puffed up chest height,& far enough as to not interfere with your hands,so when relaxed,the bar rests on them,also it will give you more confidence in the heavy 1-2 rep maxes,trust me it's a physiological advantage,you will get better quicker.You're doing great lad.
@@barrythomsonlifts Try and find a local welder,tell him what you want,if i was closer i would help you out, as it depends on your bench,head height, etc, all down to personal preferences,if you get my drift.

Think about using wrist wraps on your heavy sets. Wrist wraps are acceptable in pretty much any bench competition - they don’t prevent the lift from being “raw”. Pretty much everyone uses them when benching heavy. Damaging a wrist and having to rest it for two weeks really sucks if you are trying to build your bench and you might find that they give you a tiny bit extra on the lift - maybe 1%.
@barrythomsonlifts3 күн бұрын
Thanks dude. I have wrist wraps and used them to back and shoulder pressing but never bench

Well done Barry, smashing it. You should learn how to fail on the bench press with a light Weight it will make you more confident and in turn stronger. What mean by fail is when the weight won't go up you push the bar down to your hips under you your belly and above your pubis and you can sit up with the bar. Iv done this a few times with upto 140kg not to uncomfortable considering the alternative of it being stuck on your neck or chest then rolling it down your body. Hope you understand what I mean I'm sure there is a tutorial on KZbin how to do it but practice with 60kg first and you will feel more confident. I beleive everyone should learn how to fail lifts safely.

Great training !! I am asking but i bet you know the times for the strenght, right ? Due to the ATP system, you need to take a 5 minutes break to recharge to 70% and a 7 minutes break to recharge to 90%. Here from what i see, you could even wait 10 minutes before your 150 ^^ Happy training !

yea mate, just confidence now, No need for 120 -130 kg kg at all. Get thick Green band loop under bench do 10 fast press reps to fire up chest, then hook around the stands and row it back a few times, maybe a set of you pull downs or what ever. then do that 100 kg x 2 no more , to just let the body feel a moderate weight , then just do 140 kg x 2 ( 5 min break) , 5 mins , straight to 150 x1 (5 mins) , 160 kg no prob. I am sure you could do it today AND yea lower back pump got that Friday on PR. I reckon one issue you have is you have to be much more precise with your bar and the cradle that you replace it on (compared to expensive commercial gym benches ) to as when I am at the gym I can arch back and just drive bar back over head till it may potentially bang into the posts which have loads of big protruding catching things on so I am less inhibited to just go for it. I would bet that on your raw flat bench press you are stronger than me, I did 180 kg first time ever Friday but it looks nothing like your way its leg drive back arch leg drive etc etc . plus you bench 140kg x 5 flat backed and raw..thats pure chest mate lol
