​@@whiskerburrtangle Look, this isn't an attack, because I used to think along similar lines, and I think this attitude is pretty common in the fandom. But you're using realism & nature to defend the writing choices of a book series that is famously unrealistic. Real cats form loose colonies where the males leave as they mature, nothing as structured as a Clan. Real cats do not practice monogamy. Real cats do not have a concept of medicine or religion. Never mind the more outright fantastical elements, like their religion actually being 100% true or some cats having magical powers. And to be clear, the series having these traits is not a bad thing! It's what makes warriors fun and engaging. But the question that was put to me, and now I'm putting to you is this: if you can accept, even enjoy, these blatantly unrealistic elements, does it not seem hypocritical to use realism or nature to defend the writing choices around Snowkit? That you're able to suspend your disbelief for polyglot ghost badgers, but not for the idea a deaf kitten might have made it past his childhood? Honestly, if Snowkit had been hearing, that scene would have worked just as well. Hearing kittens in the wild do get carried off by hawks and other predators. They didn't, and that was a choice. Writing him as deaf only to kill him off within a few chapters shows an unconscious bias on the author's part that deaf characters, and by extension, deaf people, are more expendable. That's the ableist part. (Especially given that Snowkit is still the only character out of thousands who was born deaf, and didn't become deaf as he aged. Statistically, that's just. Extremely unlikely. Unrealistic, we might say.) As a fandom, we can do better than accepting conditional realism. We can do better than only caring about "nature" when it's time to justify killing a disabled character.

He fails to fight back for Sunning Rocks or Willowbreeze and Graypool untill much later but mostly I hate how he treated Crookedkit. He acts all sorry for changing his name when in reality he could've just said no to Rainflower. The leader's word is law, afterall. At least Rainflower's interesting.

I really want to like Ivypool but the fandom has just ruined her for me with all the needless Dovewing hate. I think the sisters have a lot of the same flaws that haters of either sister like to point out. But I feel like I’ve seen so many more people put Ivy on a pedestal and hate on Dove and that’s honestly made me resent Ivypool more. I’m trying to get over this bias and understand why other people love her so much (and then maybe I can appreciate her character) but the fandom has made that so difficult.

Dovewing drove me crazy when I first read the series because I was so used to reading Hollyleaf's POV, and I thought that Dovewing was a bit of a Mary-Sue in contrast. But now that I'm older and Dovewing has developed, I really like her- especially because of her role in Tigerheartstar's novel and the later books. However Ivypool still brings me a lot of joy and I love them both.

@@CreatureCreations- Yeah, I tried to highlight that in my comment, I’ve just seen it manifest more with people hating on Dovewing in my experience. And I will say, I’ve only read Ivy as an apprentice. So a lot of my dislike for her comes from how cruel she is to Dovepaw who only ever tries to give to their relationship. I know she supposedly gets better and from what I’ve heard, so goes through a lot of growth. But the unnecessary hate of dove while putting Ivy on a pedestal for many of the same issues Ivy has has likely forever soured my feelings on Ivy.

Mapleshade and Tigerstar are perhaps one of my top two favorite villains. Of course, put them in front of me and I will happily beat them up for doing awful things. Tigerstar is written amazingly! As for Mapleshade, her book isn't great (I'll need to reread it maybe too just to know how bad), but her motivations make a lot of sense. Her whole Clan turned on her, kicked her out. Instead of helping, both her supposed friend and scummy mate (and his Clanmates) watched on as she struggled to get her kits across (imo, Apple and those Clanmates should have been punished for breaking a code regarding those poor kits). Then they dragged her out, and ridiculed her then chased her back out. Is murder the answer to any of that? Absolutely not. But she's already a villain, and is meant to be a villain. She just got hit with like, a million horrible events with no time to process it and no one to confide in that she can trust. (Some may say the random barn cat--but she JUST lost everything in one day, and she was taught not to trust or confide in non-Clan cats. Also he felt so random, useless, and out of place if irc. Book would be better without him to solidify that aloneness some more.) I shall scuttle away from my podium now, that was not meant to be super long but, never got to properly tangent about Mapleshade till now. *wheeze*

I would like Grey Wing...if the narrative actaully treated him as though he were morally grey. Yellowfang haters are probably mad about her StarClan appearances rather than how she was when she was alive. Or haters of her super edition. Arc 1 Yellowfang is a pretty unanimously loved character. Unlike arc 1 Bluestar, whose mental breakdown really divides the fandom on whether she's a good character or not. I'm on the side of thinking she's one of the most *interesting*. Brambleclaw's worst crime to me is being disappointing. He has this whole arc about not becoming like his father, then he... trains with Tigerstar and Hawkfrost in the dark forest? He's scared of being too ambitious, but then he gets to be leader and everyone loves him. A huge emotional drive of the Broken Code arc is trying to get him back to the living, but it's kind of unbelievable that Squirrelflight still loves him that much after how he's treated her. Saying he's better than Ashfur is damning by faint praise.

As for Yellowfang, I didn't take part in the vote but I really don't like her. It's not that deep for me honestly, she's just old and grumpy which just isn't my cup of tea. Was surprised to see Needletail so low on the list. She was responsible for me no longer reading the latest books (though, what they've put out about Moonpaw is tempting me). Seeing her be treated as a valiant but mislead cat rather the irresponsible jerk she came across as infuriated me. I was kinda hoping Bramble wouldn't rank #1 (hopelessly attached to this guy since childhood because my first set of books was TNP) but it wasn't unexpected. The number of villains high on the list did surprise me, though. Unless a villain does something particularly infuriating or I find them very poorly written, I usually don't care too much. They're villains. They're gonna be bad people and do bad things. Duh.

I read a portion of TBC, but I never finished the arc. I stopped after The Silent Thaw. Up until AvoS, I had read every single arc from start to finish at least once. Since I haven't completed an arc since AvoS (and actually haven't touched ASC at all), I consider AvoS to be the arc I "stopped reading" Warriors at.

It's definitely a weird dissonance between fandom, the writing, and the intentions of the writers. I definitely don't think Brambleclaw is deserving of #1 though, especially above characters like Thistleclaw, Rainflower, Tom, etc. Clear Sky and Sandgorse actually embody more of the character that people hate when they think of Brambleclaw imo, both are a lot worse than him without it ever being addressed / resolved fully (a little arguable with Clear Sky, but since it fell flat for many readers I think it's a fair point). I don't know if people remember Sandgorse all that well, but the way he treated Tallstar and the effect his verbal and emotional abuse had (especially after his death) literally made me sob my eyes out as a child when I read Tallstar's revenge. There's for sure quite a few issues with how Brambleclaw is written and I agree wholeheartedly with a lot of the points people bring up, but also a lot of it is blown a little out of proportion. I really don't think the writers ever intended for him to be that way and it's moreso the result of poor writing. As a certified Squirrelflight Hater ™, a lot of it is because the fandom hardly ever acknowledges how she's written in the actual text. They will go out of their way to say x or y isn't canon ("no, she took the three out of the goodness of her own heart, canon doesn't exist!" "i'm going to ignore her telling Jayfeather he can't blame her and to blame Leafpool," etc) but don't want to like her for her entire personality. Ironically, I LIKE actual canon Squirrelflight. Headstrong, bold, but above all... self-serving. Her taking the three for her own wants? Canon. Her yelling at old man, sickly Blackstar in his own camp while Bramblestar tells her to stop? Canon. Her telling Jayfeather not to blame her because it was Leafpool? Canon. Her refusing to support Sunbeam outright in wanting to help her family, to potentially save face politically? Canon. And none of that makes her a bad character. In fact, "above all, I and mine need to survive," is one of my favorite traits in a character. And Squirrel has it in bucket loads - that's why she was willing to go completely nuclear during the fire scene and jumped there so fast. Sure, there could have been other ways out of the situation, but getting out quickly and all four of them surviving was the important part. But the fandom just holding up this version of Squirrelflight that doesn't exist and worshiping it as the best is soooo irritating. And this isn't from a place of Brambleclaw or Ashfur love - in fact, I dislike both of them, and their existence means very little for how I feel about Squirrelflight, as the reasons I dislike her are almost completely fandom-based. If the fandom didn't exist she'd probably rank higher for me, though TNP Squirrel would still be one of my least favorite characters of all time.

Brambleclaw being first surprised me a bit. I get it, he’s definitely a dislikable character as of Squirrelflight’s Hope, which is the only warriors book I’ve ever stopped reading out of frustration (towards his horrid behaviour), but I don’t think he’s nearly as hate-able as some characters. I was surprised he ranked higher than Thistleclaw and Rainflower. He was interesting in TNP. He’s been emotionally abusive and Squirrelstar should break up with him, but as I mentioned I think he at least had some interesting arcs earlier on, which spares him from being a character I unequivocally dislike. It’s more mixed feelings for me personally. I am very glad Clear Sky/Skystar was second place. I am a proud Clear Sky hater. LOL (Side Note: My favourite highly-hated characters are Tigerstar 2.0 and Dovewing. I’m 19 and a lot of my opinions formed when I read the books at 7-14 though since I haven’t reread the older ones since then so this could have changed lol.)

Wasn't surprised at all. The poll is usually Akira's main audience which is also cross over of Bliximi and Moonkitti, all those creators are very big Squirrel, and Leaf lovers which into turn their main audience tends to be. I was 100% expecting Bramble to be #1. That being said I do think it's only because if the limited audience polled. I do not think if the larger fanbase was polled he'd be #1, top 10 for sure and probably top 5 but 1? I dont see how you argue Ashfur is better than Bramble in any realm. People just like Squirrel so their hate for Bramble is amplified. I'm not a Bramble lover, to me he is pretty boring and both cats in SquirrelXBramble are problematic, obviously Brmable is worse but neither are good for each other. People get mad that Bramble was mad at Squirrel for lying about Holly, Jay, and Lion. That is a reasonable thing to be mad about. And honestly I think it would have been a great place to end their relationship. I'm not someone who likes Squirrel, I think fandom Squirrel is infinitely more likeable than canon Squirrel so maybe that just makes my hate in Bramble a bit less idk. Obviously everyone is bias but I think there's so many worse cats worthy of that #1 and truly think it's mainly just bias of the polled group. Most of these comments are just about Squirrel, which just goes to show how many of the viewers love her. I dont understand how Squirrel lovers dont vote Ash more, my main guess is that he is dead now while we still have to tolerate Bramble. For me it's just so hard to hate purely for the relationship thing because I truly believe most of it is just really really bad writing execution. The side characters always act like the relationship is just one of those 'push each other buttons but love each other' type of trope, which I do truly think is the intent. But in true Warriors Cats writing fashion they forget to actually show the 'love' part and only show the 'push each others buttons' so it comes out as this truly toxic horrible to read relationship. I think the writers are stating to see their fail and pushing Bramble to the side, I just wish they broke them up earlier (I do love Alderheart so maybe after he was born). If I'm honest I'm so tired of the cats from the second series I'm not inclined to read until they are all dead. Aside from Crow I dont think they were that intresting espically Squirrel and Bramble. They have had enough spotlight

From what I've seen, it's way more likely for a Squilf lover to like Ashfur as well, but hate Bramble. It's a weird phenomenon, but I've seen it a lot. Over the top of my head I can remember two content creators who are like this: Moonkitti is the most obvious one. She Loves squirreflight, and she has said many times she really likes Ashfur. Okay, so, Daisy. I LOVE her, so I'm sad she got voted. And I gotta disagree with ya, Akira, Bluestar was SO interesting throughout the books, be it "Bluestar's Prophecy" or, my personal favourite, "A Dangerous Path". And lastly, I voted Tigerstar (Tigerclaw), not because he's a bad villain, but because he's evil and he totally destroyed Bluestar. She got a sort of dementia BECAUSE of him. And Tigerstar just cause so much destruction, and he killed Brindleface. He really made me sad throughout the books, even though his death was really scary and sad. But overall, thank you Akira!

Bramble is an amazing character, he is not abusive and was a great leader until he suffered PTSD. The fact that those are opinions of Squirrelstar, their Clanmates, Squirrel's parents, rest of StarClan, and the authors themselves should have made this clear. He and Squirrel aren't perfect, neither as couple nor as themselves, they have flows (I would argue that Squirrelstar had more of those) but that's what makes them so great and interesting compared to all the other relationships^^
